Agreed! When our dad passed last October, the three of us rallied behind our mom and whatever she wanted, she damn well got! She of course before making any major decisions would ask all three of us what we wanted like if we wanted to bury him or cremate him or if we wanted something as memorabilia like I have some of his ashes in a heart necklace stuff like that. She was always the ultimate decision maker as his wife but she always took our input to heart. Once the initial shock and pain wore off, she started cleaning out his things and would let us go through and keep what we wanted. My dad had 4 Hawaiian shirts. He loved those things and always worre them! I got first pick because I happen to be at the house when mom was ready to let things go but I asked and if she said No then that's it. No arguing or anything! I asked if I could borrow one I could wear at my daughters swim meet since I was volunteering on deck. I wanted my dad there. That's when she told me to go ahead and pick one to keep. When my brother and sister came over, we were tripping over ourselves trying to make sure we didn't rob each other of something that might mean something more to each other. We couldn't even decide which shirts should go to who because none of us wanted to hurt the other lol but we all (mom included) got to keep one of his Hawaiian shirts. She's holding onto his ties to let her brothers go through them since he was closer to her brother's than his own and she is setting some aside for my sons as well as his watches. And of course our brother is getting his choice of ties first. And don't get me started on his ball cap collection lol we loved our dad and love our mom and each other more than any of their stuff (except mom's snow globe collection, we are going to war for those lmao jk).... when dad died unexpectedly, mom decided to add my little sister to the accounts but showed me and our little brother where everything was and gave us the passwords and such. Mom thought I woukd be upset that as the oldest, I wasn't the one added but my younger sister was.... I'm not even a little upset. I know my sister would never hurt us and she is a teacher too so she understands the weird way Texas set up teacher retirement accounts. We watched how other members of my mom's side of the family would get petty and nasty over stuff of their lost loved ones. My bitch ass aunt even went around and put post-its with her name written down on my grandma's stuff when she was dying in hospice! Who the hell does that?! My great aunt who I was named for... when she died, suddenly all of her stuff disappeared and so did her mooching "friends".... took 5 years after her death for a letter and paperwork to find me from one of her accounting naming me as the beneficiary because her friends were trying to snake that away too. My mom was supose to get the family Bible but that also suddenly went missing. It hold no monetary value yet they still took it and refused to hand it over. We watched all that and we agreed to NEVER do that to our parents or our family or each other. As long as family things stay in family, we don't care which member.

@@Palmstreet-u7x we miss our loved ones very much. We are coming up on a year (October 21st) since our dad's death and I still feel so much pain over losing him. He died in his sleep of cardiovascular disease that we didn't even know he had. We went to report his death to his many doctors (he had MS) and found out he had a cardio appointment the very next week. So it was a shock and completely unexpected. But even though he kept some of his health issues secret from all of us, he was still a wonderful dad. Not perfect but he put everything he had into his family! Him and my brother were/are amazing male figures in my kids lives when their own failed them. When I got married and gained two step children, "step" was never an option to my family. My step son was particularly close to my dad! So you bet your ass that none of us will taint his memory by pulling some bullshit like picking off his stuff like vultures and hurt each other! Our grandpa died in April. All of us grandkids were gifted a shell from his 21 gun salute. That's all I got from his passing but it means so damn much to me! I'm putting together a shadow box for it. Stuff is stuff. And when we die, we can't take it with us. So we find it stupid to fight over things like crazed vultures. I even recently asked my mom to let me know what items mean to her and where she wants them to go so I can honor that. I told her to put it in the will and it WILL be done. I don't remember everything she told me but of all her beautiful knick knacks, she only directed a couple of items and said all the rest doesn't matter. My sister and I are to decide amongst ourself who gets her engagement ring and who gets her wedding band. Our brother is to get dad's when mom passes. For now she wears it around her neck. I specifically asked for her clay nativity set. I'm not even a Christian but it was hand made by my grandma and my mom used to put it out every Christmas season. Now she has cats and not enough shelf space but I think that was the only thing I asked for. She directed it to me BUT if my brother, his wife, or my sister ask me for it.... I'd either hand it over or maybe we can work a deal where each year we pass it around since we all live near each other so we can always see it. We set these things down NOW because we refuse to make stupid decisions while we are grieving another loss. It's not worth losing people you love and I'll never understand why so many taint their loved ones memory!

Yep greed and wills. My step father passed away, pre deceased by my mother. He married my mom when I was about 8 my father passed away when I was 5. I have an older brother, and two half brothers. My mom and dad discussed the will with us, the two younger brothers as they were still in school my older brother and I on our own working, at the time were left the majority, all good. Years later all of us working established. My dad made the two younger brothers the executors. He left them an insurance policy and investments with the understanding, but not officially written to be an executors fee. and the estate (his house) to be sold with the younger two getting 60%, my brother and I 40%. They each received $45,000.00 immediately. But that wasn't enough, they wanted us to pay them an additional 5% each out of our 40% leaving us 30% as an extra executor fee, because my dad neglected to mention in the will why they received the insurance and investments for being executors. How's that for greed? Family gets throat punched when money is involved.

We all moved overseas except my brother, that’s why he got it. My other brother got a loan out using the house as collateral, my older brother agreed. Anyway he never paid it back. My brothers were thick as thieves. Always together, now they barely talk and if we have family functions, if 1 brother goes the other doesn’t. We will never be all together until our parents die. This case is the epiphany of selfishness and how much one’s selfishness can cause a rip in a family!
