"If holiness isn't the standard, then grace is unnecessary." Well said. I have enjoyed work from another Calvary Chapel preacher. I appreciate the perspective and seemingly balanced view of this church. I also appreciate how you are willing to disagree on secondary issues, to stand your ground but in humility and love of the brethren. Glory to God -- just expressing thanks.

Man, you’re spot on here. It especially resonated with me when talking about how believers treat each other. Spot on. It’s like One Christian says something dumb or controversial and other believers throw them under the bus in order to save face with non believers. But how many non believers have ever converted because of how effectively we disown a brother? Probably not many. Let’s just have each other’s backs here. “We’re not spending eternity with the world.” Spot on.
@DonnaHughes8133 жыл бұрын
I'm a fairly new Christian. How biblically do we respond to say Christians acting with violence, or open hostility and anger in the name of God? Things that are definately not Christian acts and are openly acting in these ways. How do you explain this to non christians? I can't say they aren't really christians I don't know if they are truly saved.
@quickattackfilms79233 жыл бұрын
@@DonnaHughes813 If a non believer were to confront me with “Hey, why did that Christian do that evil thing”, I’d say “We’re all just fallen sinners who need God’s grace. We all do evil every day, their evil is just more apparent.”
@quickattackfilms79233 жыл бұрын
@@DonnaHughes813 Some non Christians will accept that, hey, we’re all sinners. But some people won’t be satisfied. They might think the Bible is wrong because some Christian is doing something evil. But in that situation, maybe I would just quote scriptures that outline how Christians are supposed to act in love and not violence. Jesus said: ““A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”” John 13:34-35 NIV “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Luke 6:31 NIV ““You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” Matthew 5:43-44 NIV And if the Christian is doing unjust violence, we should stop them, physically if we need to. If they’re doing wrong things towards you personally, like gossiping or being rude, confront them in love. If they won’t listen, bring a few more believers to confront them. If they still won’t repent, bring them to the whole church to confront them. But if they’re publicly being evil, I think it’s appropriate to publicly respond.

@@bobwood5146 You're not getting it, Bob. True, we (Christians) are not judged, and therefore condemned, for our sins, but we are held accountable for what we have done. 2Cor 5:10 "we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil". (ESV) We will be judged according to what we have done in order to determine what crowns we will receive and cast before Jesus, but this is not an eternal judgement pertaining to salvation. I was saved at 16. I did not go to the best of churches...they all had splits or major meltdowns of the Pastor...After many years of one foot in the world and one in the Kingdom...involved in ministry after ministry...Sunday School,Music Ministry,Choir Director,Christmas and E aster cantatas that I was told were like Broadway performances,Elected Elder in the last church that the Pastor sadly had a meltdown (he accused me of trying to steal his congregation in front of another Elder at my dining table in my home)...I finally threw in the towel and simply admitted to God, I am not good at this...So I went my own way and fell into grievous sin for years. The last thing I remembered was as I was ranting before the Lord,He lovingly said in response to something I said "Who ever told you that you know Me"(not a single day passed that I did not hear that in my head for years) One day,sitting happy in my sin God suddenly had me on my knees repenting before him and crying non stop for two weeks. At the end I heard in my heart "Now, I am going to tell you who I am". I'm not flaky..it was not a revelation , I had no idea HOW The Lord was going to do it but slowly but surely through His Word and many,many Sola Scriptura Pastors fed me the meat I craved. Pastor Mike is the newest one. I know I need to find a Church and sit under Authority but I am still waiting on God to bring me to a Church that believes the basics. Not perfection...but I do need a Church steeped in the Word NOT EMOTION. God is to be Glorified in all things...something I came to learn. Please pray for me as I want to ONLY be pleasing in His sight by His GRACE. Another word in 30 years I never heard. Praise you,Jesus.

First of all, I’d like to say I really enjoy Mike’s teaching and I’m convinced he’s a true brother although God’s opinion of him is what really matters, not mine. I appreciate Mike’s selection of sermon topics, this one was so thought provoking that I spent half-a-day writing these comments and I don’t normally comment on anything. My comments and questions are mainly about the Fear of God analogy Mike used starting at 27:02. Sorry, I tend to lack brevity when unpacking my thoughts. I like the employer/employee relationship analogy because it evokes a more acute sense of fear than just the idea of respect. Not only because of the accountability aspect, but more so because of the implication of consequences. Yes, a person may get fired if "the boss" (not Bruce Springsteen) is displeased, however, I think we’d all agree that the consequences for unholy living spoken of in 1 Peter 1:14-25 are much more severe than getting fired, right? Please don’t take my ramblings the wrong way. I’m not knocking the analogy, I’m just trying to understand and develop it a bit further. The Greek word for fear in this verse is phobos, right? Like phobia... Fear, like real fear? Even terror? I found the same Greek word used in the following verse on the same topic; 2 Cor. 5:10-11a, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he has done, whether it be good or bad. Therefore, knowing the TERROR of the Lord, we persuade men…” Am I wrong in thinking that the type of fear or terror being called for by Peter and Paul is way more intense than acknowledging my accountability to God, right? But what is the ultimate consequence of unholy living? Just losing my crown and mansion reward at the Judgement Seat of Christ? The following verse makes it sound like it’s more than just my reward that’s at stake. Heb. 12:14 “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:” Or are these verses simply telling us to be afraid that God will take away everything except my salvation because salvation is based on saving grace and living faith, not by performing the works of the law, right? Isn’t that Judgement Seat reward based on deeds of faith (Eph. 2:10) and how holily we chose to live (1 John 3:3)? And is the call to holy living just to increase our eternal reward? Heb. 12:14b “without which no man shall see the Lord” makes it sound like it has more to do with salvation? Isn’t holiness also proof of authenticity as a Christian because consistent unholy living may be an indication that a person doesn’t truly know Jesus at all? (1 John 3:6, 1 Cor. 6:9, Gal. 5:1 & 21, Rom. 8:9) ***Additional verses below. I don’t want to get way out of balance when analyzing The Fear of the God topic. 1 John 4:18 says, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.” I know we might be talking about reward and not salvation, but I’m also concerned that if I think of phobos as less than terrifying, I might be taking away one of the greatest motivators to holy living next to love and gratitude? 2Cor. 7:1 “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” What’s wrong with the “real” fear of God leaving me so paralyzed in terror of the consequences that I’m less able to transgress the line of love God has drawn in the sand. Or is this “fear” just a constant awareness that my eternal reward is at stake and whatever He judges concerning my ways, deeds and works "good or bad" is what I deserve, and to be concerned about what my choices will consequently reward or not reward me for all eternity, still a heavy thought! I'm kind of thinking we are being told that if we don't live a holy life, I won't see Jesus. That scares me... Hopefully in the right direction. ***Additional verses I was considering on the topic of holiness, remaining in Christ and not receiving the grace of Christ “in vain”: 1 Cor. 9:27, Phil 2:16 & 3:9, John 8:31, Rom. 11:22, 1 Cor. 15:2 & 10, 2 Cor. 6:1, Gal 2:2, Col. 1:23, 1 Tim 2:15, 2 Peter 2:21 and 1 John 2:24. And analogies like: Exo. 12:22 staying inside the blood marked house (Christ), Gen 7:13, staying in the ark (Christ).

Romans 9:30-33. Look to Jesus Christ and remember when the Bible says idolatry, it means literally bowing to a statue or praying to other "gods". It does not mean; a principal to apply to our lives and find sin. Stop looking for sin and instead, Romans 9, Colossians 3, and 2 Peter 1(especially 5-8). "Perfected love cast out all fear"

Christian love toward the brothers and sisters in Christ also includes rebuking and correcting them in a spirit of love when they need it. You DO NOT just let your brother or sister continue on in a lifestyle that rebels against God and not say anything about it. That's NOT love, that's indifference and apathy. Jesus says to whom much is given, much is also required. Having Christ as your Lord and Savior does require you to walk worthy of His salvation and calling on your life.

@tomastavlov11684 жыл бұрын
Yes. This is even confirmed by a few passages. Messiah said before abraham was, i am. He was before. Revelations calls him the word. Which makes the important point of the bible not being the word of god because messiah is the word. In genesis, for creation of man, it was in 'our" image. Because he was there. As I understand it, messiah was made in an image (imagination, most ideal form) and so in that image man was also created. Theres another good verse or two that i cant recall off the top of my head. Trinity idea that he has is wrong.
@rayrayner44264 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't work because the word "word" is translated from the Greek word "logos", as in ethos, pathos and logos. It means login. Hebrews 412: the word (logos/logic) of God is alive.... Etc. Or the "jesus of God is alive.... Or the god of God is alive..... Or the logic of God is alive? A lot of understanding the the scripture is lost because sometimes there is no exact translation. For example, Fornication is translated from the Greek word for prostitution. The modern meaning to prostitution does not mean the same to ancient Greeks. The word Adultery does not mean the same today as it did in biblical times, to God it means "the breaking of a covenant. No comprende? Do some research.

MOST "Christians" who criticize those preaching & upholding the TRUTH of the LORD is because MOST "Christians" are NOT born again. Also (I love this brother in his studies & sharing), I do NOT agree with him about Jesus not BEING THE Word of God; He walked it & it is written & His Word will NEVER pass away (it is even placed IN us BY Him for conviction to humbly surrender or stay in sinful pride). I was reading John 7:37-38 KJV (as a carnal, unsaved so-called "Christian" of 30 years; unaware that I was not saved, but obviously was NOT) & Jesus ACTUALLY showed up! He healed & freed me & then the Holy Spirit washed over (like pouring molasses) & cleansed me so He could indwell (born again). I didn't cuss, desire to fornicate, feel codependent, bite my nails, have insomnia, etc. as I always had before. He also healed my illness of chronic bronchitis that I had suffered from for nearly five years. I wrote my sins & weaknesses on paper for Jesus (& shared it with another strong follower of Christ) in desperate surrender & the next day I had this encounter with Jesus & the Holy Spirit (they seem the same). I saw no flesh, but my spirit recognized Him AS Jesus (CERTAINLY God!) & got SO small. ...I definitely died to self & to Him. ...to then LIVE IN Him! I've never been the same; refined & transformed DAILY. Most people, even other believers (who are not necessarily FOLLOWERS) can hardly stand it because it is SO convicting. Others who are humbled to desire knowing Jesus or who ACTUALLY FOLLOW Him, KNOW better. I think those street preacher "rebukenators" are necessary in this corrupt world. I was in my sin without understanding or conviction because no one gave me reproof or correction. Tragic. They may get angry with that seed, but God WILL give the increase if they can/will be saved. HALLELUJAH!!! To God be the glory! Blessings in Jesus!🙋 💔👣👣💖

He mentions that there is the word of God, that is the scripture we have been given, but that Jesus is THE WORD, etc...There's much more to his teaching that I am able to write in this paragraph, but like I said, if you listen again, Mike isn't saying that Jesus isn't THE WORD, but he's differentiating between different passages and exactly what is being referred to. The Word of God is what God speaks. Some of that is in the Scripture, rather than being the Scripture itself. To complicate things, we can also say that the Bible is the word of God in terms of being what is said about God in relation to his purpose of salvation, or, as you say, Jesus (aka the Word of God in another sense.) I think these are important distinctions, for hermeneutics (difference between what God says and what is said about him, for instance) and understanding 'inspiration', for instance.

Nikao, my brother, you get it. 1 John 5:7 isnt in their "bible". But there is a curse on those who corrupt (add to/diminish). Rev 22:18-19, the very last message of Christ. Mike got it so wrong when he tries to say Jesus isnt always the word. Wow. I pray he repents and the Word opens his eyes. Jesus IS the Word, the word IS Jesus. Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed! @@TinyLiving you're right about the word. Rev calls him that and so does John. However, the passage of changing text, in context, is about the revelations. Thats an easy answer. Matthew 7:21- , he tells us exactly how people who say they believe will be judged and why they are judged. I'll still watch the video though

I know this is over a year ago, but cant help responding anyway to receiving reward for what acts survive the trial of fire. It bothered me too. Is it wrong to say that I sin because of this flesh and the Holy Spirit is behind my every good deed, therefore as always God just enjoys giving, not that we deserve it?

People keep saying we've been set free from the control of sin, I'm not sure what you mean by that. Rom. 6:7 says: "we've been set free from sin", but Rom. 7: 19 & 23 says: "For I do not do the good that I want to do, but I practice the evil that I do not want to do." & "but I see a different law in the parts of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and taking me prisoner to the law of sin in the parts of my body." I think what you mean is that we've been set free from the penalty of sin, or am I mistaken?
@a-aron67243 жыл бұрын
We've been set free in the sense we can live above sin to a certain degree since we have the holy spirit and have heard the truth. Whereas before we could only serve sin because we never knew the difference

The church I went to never taught about this. But when you do something not right, all they know is judge n threaten. They don't even teach about God's love n grace. I was told that if I leave for another church, I would not be saved though there may be love there. But the sheperd complained I did not love her. Such contradicting and confusing practice. Don't know if she realized what she was talking about.
@robbailey4644 жыл бұрын
Kim, do not hesitate to leave that church and false shepherd quickly. Salvation comes through your faith in Jesus, not by belonging to a certain group. That is clearly false and dangerous teaching where you’re at.

A friend of mine just recently told me that she's praying against the spirit of religion in my life! Now , am currently on a journey where I just want to follow God's word and to live a pure life without conforming to the world. It's not easy for me but what she said really bothers me. I really don't know what to do because I don't consider myself overly righteous and at the same time, I don't want to be influenced by someone else's definition of how I should serve God. What do I do?
@mariemilycraig2 жыл бұрын
I think you answered your own question 😊 What matters is God's definition, so instead of letting yourself be troubled, ask him to show you from the Scriptures whether you're on the right track or not 😊

Howdy Mike! First and foremost I thank God for your ministry, you are such a blessing and I learn so much from you. Was wondering if you ever made the video about Jesus in the OT? I'm still a fairly new Christian and just to be blatanly honest the OT is a hard read for me. A video showing Jesus in the OT would be so very helpful 🙏😊 Thanks Mike and God bless you and your family.

Now I'm kind of scared about my friends. They are my friends and I do love them, I don't join in on their sin but I love them so much. Is that wrong or are you saying I shouldn't love them more then believers?
@dru2420003 жыл бұрын
Love all equally, but surround yourself more with children of God because surrounding yourself with non-christians can give you a bad mindset on sinning.
@jellygoblin62963 жыл бұрын
It helps if you think about love as more than just affection or liking someone. From the bible, I believe we are to love believers over non-believers. However if you have let's say a friend that is not a believer that won't necessarily mean you spend more time with a believer who is a stranger to you than your friend. However, know that other believers are God's children and you are all part of the precious body of Christ and hence if a situation comes up where you have to decide between two people, you may need to prioritise the best interest of the believer over the non-believer. Just remember when trying to think through it that love is not your feelings towards them. It's tough. I know. God's asking you to do something difficult but not impossible and He wants you to lean on Him to conduct your life.

1 Peter 4:1-2,12-13,17-19 KJVS [1] Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; [2] That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. [12] Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: [13] But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. [17] For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? [18] And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? [19] Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

Mike, I think that when believers, knowing how we humans are, se there is not a grave consequence for our actions we may be careless. To think that at the judgement seat we are just going to suffer loss of reward I think is diminishing what this judgement actually will be. You say that our works will be judged, I ask you, aren’t these works a reflexion of our sanctification or lack thereof ? This judgment is not dealing with salvation because Paul says that those who lose rewards will still be saved but as through fire, this sounds painful don’t you think? Whether you call this purgatory or not it suggests a time of suffering if our works have not produced quality works. In the parable of the talents Jesus tells us that those who have received a certain amount of talents will be required to produce more talents with them by investing, this suggests that at conversion we are given a capacity to love which through exercising it will increase. In the parable the person who did not use the talent to make more ended up being punished. In Matthew 25:24-28, Jesus tells this parable with bags of gold, same as talents and the result for the one who did not put what was given to him to invest was to be thrown to the outer darkness, so there will be punishment and not losing a reward as it may have been suggested. Luke 12:47 is a sobering passage, ““The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.”

Right the sinful man. You don't need to believe in a literal fallen angel called the Devil, if you believe the sin nature/flesh is powerful enough in and of itself to cause us to stumble. Why do we need an exterior tempter when we already have an internal desire to sin anyway?

Is a ministry of rebuke wrong if they are rebuking things that don't apply to themselves or if the thing being rebuked is damning people to hell, not saying a ministry that only rebukes is right but the essence of if the act is wrong or not

At the 55-56 minute mark you talk about how we should be more critical of the world than of fellow believers. I think I get kind of what you are saying when we are critical and aren't loving, but the bible makes it clear that we are not to judge the non-believer, because judgement is already on them. We are, however, too rebuke our brothers, in love, If we see them failing or going astray. We are to confront them in a loving way to help them get back on the right path. Am I wrong in this assessment?

If there are no atheists in foxholes, then there are no Christians whom require them in the first place. If god has the power to help from within the hole, he has the same power to help from without. As he has not answered your call to the extent you have found yourself in the hole, it stands to reason he has no intention of answering. And it would seem unholy to pray in any such conflict as you don’t know if your place in the conflict is the work of the devil or not. As an atheist I just always found that euphemism so strange about foxholes. I used to have a friend who would say, “why do people say ‘oh god’ when something bad happens if they don’t believe in god?” People say oh gosh oh-(fill in with expletives, but I won’t write them as I respect this is a Christian channel)…point being do they believe in gosh too?
