Here here. Danny Boy is definitely one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It’s been sung by many people but no one can EVER live up to the most beautiful, pure, expressive and heart-wrenching sound of the beautiful Judith Durham. I cry every time I hear her sing it, just can’t hold back the tears, how ever hard I try. Has anyone heard her singing “All Over The World “? Pure beauty and fantastic song.

Yes, it is unique. She had measles as a child of 4 (in 1948) and was very sick. She had bronchiectasis as a result...a lifelong condition like people with cystic fibrosis have, but without the progressive damage of that disease. It left her with a chronic cough, which she has trained herself to control while singing. It also left her with lungs and breathing passages that gave wonderful power and unique timbre and vibrato. What could have been a tragedy turned into a gift for her and the world!

My beautiful three sons, Casey, Samuel, and Peter, you are all three grown men now gone away to grow your own lives and family...but I will always be here for you...and if you come and find I am gone...just listen... And remember the hundreds of times I sang this for you as you went off to bed as boys...this is our song always and forever...."and I shall sleep in Peace untill you come to me." ...

Many of the greatest singers of the last 100 years have sung this song. I’ve never heard a version that was better than this.

This is superb. Judith has nailed this old song completely.. RIP Judith My Dad sang this to me when I was a little lad, and seriously ill in hospital.

My heart is truly broken and I have cried to hear that Judith has passed us by. All the wondrous qualities of her voice can be heard here. They called her a songbird, but she was so much more than that. Who do you know who can sing like her. I am blessed to have known her, met her and heard her sing.

Peace be with you Judith: I'm 73 Irish/Dutch Canadian. The 1st song I ever heard and learned to sing and play on keys and strings was Danny Boy for my Scottish Grandmother. Other then performing King Crimson with my Les Paul Mansfield such as Epithet - the Sneekers and the Rankin Family made the music I loved. Judith's rendition of Danny Boy was always my favorite - God Bless Her - Ron

Elton John, who knows a little something about music and singing, once said that Judith was one of the three best female singers ever (the other two being Eva Cassidy and Karen Carpenter) - absolutely nothing to argue with there...

I just love how - just after 1:40, and finally at 4:00 - she hits those top notes _without_ belting, but also with no sign of effort whatsoever.
@spang97822 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! With today's singers, so many of them literally scream the high notes and while they hit the note, it just sounds like yelling. But kids today love that! We need more singers like Durham to show the young ones what REAL singing is about.
@davidpryle3935 Жыл бұрын
You’ve said it exactly right. I think that’s the difference between Judith and other great female singers. She doesn’t seem to have to put any effort into it, or at least that’s the way it comes across.
