Met Judy at Frank Traynor's club in Melbourne AU, when she was just starting out in jazz with Frank; much later got to play with her and pianist husband Ron Edgeworth in Hobart, Tasmania. Really, a great singer, talented pianist - and a very nice person.

@MrRezillo7 жыл бұрын
She had some big hits with the Seekers: but this is who she really is, musically, no doubt about it: the best female classic jazz singer in recent history - and possibly the best one since Bessie Smith. I kid you not.
@mugshot7497 жыл бұрын
She is great, but also listen to the late Ottilie Patterson who was also a knockout blues singer.
@johnking65506 жыл бұрын
+bixntram...I'm a fan of trad jazz & blues and quickly drew to exactly the same conclusion after hearing a few of Judith's selections. Yes, she is something else and I'm surprised more of her fans don't celebrate this aspect of her brilliance.
@martinrudland44255 жыл бұрын
@@johnking6550 Yes this is OK+, but, uhm, many of her Jazz stuff all sounds belted out. It's without the sort of arrangement quality that was added by Keith Potger, & Athol & Bruce ie her singing gained much by being part of the Seekers.
@johnking65505 жыл бұрын
@Martin Rudland...Yes, I would agree with you that Judith is a belter, but to a large degree that is the nature of trad jazz. It is a free-form style where the singer may use phrazing and attack similar to the instruments. Before the Seekers she was singing with Frank Traynor and His Jazz Preachers and I think that's where she picked up much of her technical skill and control. I would absolutely agree with you about the special magic that comes from the four of them together...and there's nothing like it on the face of the earth. But I would also suggest that the jazz within Judith's musical DNA is evident in much of the work she's done with the Seekers. jtk
@stewartfenton76602 жыл бұрын
@@martinrudland4425 I was thinking that, belted out. I think maybe she loved doing that, but I like it best when she doesn't.
