Judith Durham had a beautiful and a powerfully distinctive voice. She was a versatile and energetic performer who could sing folk, jazz, spirituals and soul. Her recording of ‘Yesterday’ and ‘Morning has broken,’ are real gems to be treasured. In my humble opinion, she was the best popular female singer of the 1960’s and 70’s. Judith was always pitch perfect and her voice was a clear as a bell. Her death has robbed the world of an angelic voice. However, heaven has gained a wonderful ‘songbird.’

I don't think we ever got to see this entire special in America, although I have seen portions of it throughout the years. I was only 12 when I first noticed (and fell in love with Judith) and the Seekers in 1967-68. I never knew she performed solo or played the piano back then. My Mother first introduced me to the tune 'Danny Boy' and to an old movie starring Deanna Durban singing it, which was wonderful. Then both of of us heard Judith's lovely version of this song and agreed she was magnificent with her beautiful crystal clear clarity. This is fantastic to watch 50 years later, sadly though without my Mom (RIP). in my 60's I appreciate Judith Durham so much more than before when I was young.

Despite this joyous jaunt as a solo artist, her voice was a quintessential augmentation of the voices of the three male members of the Seekers. That unique blend was the absolute gold standard that needed to have aspiring songs by song writers from all over being submitted to them for performance and recording.

Ladies and gentlemen,this is everything a singer and pianist is supposed to sound like. Y'all may know that Keely Smith is my favorite,but Miss Judith- so glad she never changed it to Judy on stage- is pure talent,class and wholesomeness. That being said,all of us have to battle the sin of pride at times,no matter our station in life. This show is just marvelous and is fittingly in her hometown. Give that 1968 a break. As a whole,they were taught to show people respect with a quiet intensity. On "Georgy Girl" they applauded as the song began,as we often do now. I pray for Judith's family and friends since her passing. I shed a few tears myself while typing this comment. Rest in Peace Judith and Keely and God bless you. Yes and No Shevill Mathers. Undeniable huge musical talent which is very much an inherited gift.... But the piano playing at that level would need to be cultivated as well. Especially in the Classical tradition... Which can be ,. I was going to say brutal training, certainly very demanding albeit rewarding. Thus speaks a Classically trained music teacher of fifty years.

"Oh Wow", till recently I never realized how fantastic a talented person Miss Judith Durham was, and still is? I remembered her from The Seekers, of the Sixties of course. But prior too then I was a naive adolescent. Later In my teen years I became infatuated with many other female singers, like Petula Clark, Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nick's, Ann Murray, Crystal Gayle, Olivia Newton John, Patsy Cline, and many others. I admit here I'm a sop when it comes to music! Now a days I seem to be reminiscing more as I'm older. But the thing that seems to be reacurring is how life and music have coincided with one another? As the announcer indicates at the end, this was a live to air presentation. It is my guess that the ''audience'' was used as stage dressing and most likely played a part in the rehearsal....for cues and reaction.

She would have known what was going on, since she was from Melbourne and it was a Melbourne audience. Probably told by the producers not to applaud until the end of each song. But I can't begin to tell you how dull Melbourne was in 1968.

This 25 min show is wonderful. Just that. The music is alternately happy, sad, vibrating, slow.... Judith sings high notes, mezzo notes, plays the piano... and is beautiful to see all around. Amazing.

One thing I have read once was she made most of her own outer clothes. She did a 2-year degree in Classical piano with some serious voice training on top of the hard work at the piano. It shows in every syllable she ever sang. They did make it to the US. 1965 - In June the Seekers performed in the United States on The Ed Sullivan Show singing "A World of Our Own" and "You Can Tell The World".

I have always thought that Judith had the voice of an angel; however, I have also felt that her voice was best showcased when it was contrasted against the male voices of THE SEEKERS. For me, that was the magical combination.

Still watching this amazing show and still cannot understand how the audience could be like mannequins just sitting there whilst a nervous Judith is gingerly hoping she will be accepted away from The Seekers I would kill to be in that audience. The woman with the big hair in the back row (right side) looks bored to death :( see 23:20 as Judith belts out Georgy Girl why ever go if you are not going to enjoy it? This would have been THE ticket in Melbourne. I reckon there's been a fortune spent on ladies' hairdressing, and dresses. And all those dinner suits! This was just the way it was in a formal setting in 1968 Melbourne. We were all very conservative then. By the way looking bored was an acquired skill amongst some who didn't want to show what they really felt.

Fantastic voice and a serious singer. But nightclub singers, even Variety show singers, are plentiful. Maybe it's the songs, maybe it's visual, but the magic seems to happen only with The Seekers. Just one of those perfect combination of voices.
