Surely this is a far more appropriate song for our national anthem that "Advance Australia Fair", the words of which have to be explained to our young children when they first learn it. Most people do not know the words of the second verse, whereas as' We Are One' is far more relevant in todays modern world, and everyone knows the words and feels emotional when they hear it, or sing it. A true comment on our multi-cultural society. Well done Bruce. Such great sentiment

It brings a different point of view to this country and is much more relevant than the current national anthem. It is inspiring and tells a story about what Australia stands for . Maybe change the date and the anthem and unite this country on all levels.

I've never been to Australia, and doubt i ever will. a 10 hr flight to America was more than enough for me. I'm English, and think that we have many patriotic songs here, which we do (quite old songs in the main). However "I am Australian" has got to be the most patriotic song in the world. So beautiful and moving, this Brit loves it. I've loved the sound of the Seekers since my early teens, and I'm now over 60. When I die i'd love to think that the pure magical voice of Judith Durham was the last thing i heard, absolute heaven.

Judith is one of the 3 or 4 best singers this old world has had, nevermind just Australia. Her voice is one of a kind and amazingly, the Seekers sounded just as good 50 years later. MUST become official. A national anthem must come from the deepest parts of one's heart. Advance Australia Fair meant nothing to me when it was voted the national anthem 40 plus years ago. I had never heard the song. The generation that voted it in to replace god save the queen have passed and it is time for a major rethink. I am nearly 70 and I want this to be the National Anthem before I leave this earth.

I have friends and some family who emigrated from Africa to Australia. Because of family connections I brought my family to Canada in 1979 and while this country has allowed us to grow in freedom I often wonder if or how we'd have done in Australia. This song makes me want to believe that anyone can make it there. I wish Canada had a similar song to inspire the people who came/come to this country that they are Canadians first and whatever they left behind second. Instead they seem to form ghettos of the old country and don't assimilate. I've tried, in the 43 years we've been here, but the doors always seem to be closed. I don't know if it's because of our cold weather or just a frame of mind. Well done Australia, Bruce and the Seekers. RIP Judith. God bless you all.

It's not too far off from how I thought it came into being but I didn't know Bruce mostly wrote the song himself and in his bathroom no less, lol. LOVED Olivia Newton John's cameo as well, singing and bringing her fellow Aussies together on Zoom. I'm Canadian but I absolutely LOVE this song, it brings me to tears every time. I also just learned of Judith Durham's recent passing, may she fly free and share the love and unity of this song into higher realms.

This truly should be our National Anthem in my opinion, it brings so much unity amongst us as this is a very soul stirring song giving us a national unity as we nowadays come from almost every country in the World. The Seekers are a national treasure and all their songs are a delight for anyone to hear. RIP Judith.

"We are one but we are many". How beautiful are these words. I am Canadian and love this so much. So sad that many other countries do not believe in these words and are so prejudiced about people who are either of colour or from other countries.

I came upon the wooden ships bowed down by iron chains!NEVER omit this verse, it is the most important verse!
@grandmothergoose
@grandmothergoose 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it was the most important as they're all just as important, every verse tells the story of how we all came to be here and what it means to be Australian. However, I will agree that verse should be kept if it was to become our national anthem. Ideal would be: I came from the Dreaming... I came upon the wooden ships... chorus x 2. That would be perfect for a shortening for making the song our national anthem, make everyone happy and united, simple to learn and sing, and keeps the song in its original verse order.

@@grandmothergoose You makes sense, i was thinking it is too long for a National Anthem, but you definitely hit on a format. This would seem the right time to start the Petition to change, the current one is bloody awful, i voted for matilda, more meaning ful to Aussies, and recognised around the world. But this is the one, brings a tear to every Aussie, makes others want to be Aussie!

An incredibly moving song whether it's sung by school children or by The Seekers. So sad that it will no longer be sung with Judith Durham. I am a proud Canadian and hearing this song brings a tear to my eyes, even though I am half a world away and may never get to visit your fair land.

"It came to me when I was in the shower," explained Bruce Woodley. Not instinct or intellect, but intuition, of the Higher Self or the Soul, is able to be accessed when a person is calm. Then the person can become centred, focused, and tuned-in, appealing and linking-in to his/her Soul, which can happen when in the shower or in another calming place. This is why people meditate in such an atmosphere to receive input, enlightenment and guidance from their Higher Self/Soul. Distractions disappear. The greater good is lovingly served. A shower is one way that this works for me. But not for too long if you want to save water and a big water bill!

During primary school, the Prime Minister, John Howard visited. We sang this song like that choir, and he said that in his opinion that should be the national anthem. However, he's not a nice man.
