A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ KZbin. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of KZbin I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on KZbin won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This KZbin channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different
This is a reaction video used to educated and give my feedback on the song and artist

That was the song Union troops sang as they marched into battle, just ordinary men, willing to die not just for their country, but for the freedom of all people, regardless of skin color. Those are the values and ideals our country is founded on, and just one of the reasons I love it so much.

Her most recognizable song would be Over the Rainbow, but she has a long career in movies and television. Like many vocalists, she sang songs written by other people.

She sang this on her show as a tribute to her friend JFK who had been assassinated a few weeks before. She was a star o musicals all through the 40's and 50's and has loads of memorable songs. Some of her recordings I like are The Man That Got away - As Long As He Need s Me - Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart - she made a lot of films and sang a lot of songs.

This was the second time she sang Battle Hymn on her TV show. The other version is really the one to see as that was the one she sang in tribute to JFK. CBS didn't want her to sing it at all and one executive stated that "in six weeks, nobody will remember Kennedy". But JFK was Judy's friend, she was devastated by his death and was determined to do it. This is great but the first version was utterly breathtaking and had grown men and women sobbing in the studio, the emotion and the power was that strong.

You didn t really say, but I got the impression that you don't know who Judy Garland was. Am I right? Well, did you ever see The Wizard of Oz when you were a kid? The "little" girl playing Dorothy was Judy Garland. She was about 16 at that time. If you don't remember, look it up in You-tube and I'll bet you've at least seen pictures of her. Anyway, she had an amazing life, but was gone way too early. She died at the age of 47 in 1969. I was just about to turn 19, so I did see her sing lots of songs on tv, but I didn't see this particular performance on tv but I have seen it here on You-tube before. I've also seen several of her movies on tv. You should find some of her movies and watch them. She's not just a singer, she's s beautiful actress, as well.

I wasn't born until 1967, this performance was from 1963. She performed this song a few weeks earlier in remembrance of President Kennedy who was killed in Nov 63.. Sadly Judy passed away from what the Coroner's Office declared an accidental overdose of a powerful sleep aid ( Barbiturates ) on June 22 1969.. She was only 47. Sadly she had a history of depression, alcohol addiction and apparently tried to take her own life on numerous occasions. According to some of her family members. Her then husband said that he had to bust a bathroom door down at their flat in London, found her already dead.

There's never been a singer like Judy Garland. Her parents were poor and she was going to be aborted but the doctor convinced the mother to give birth - thank god as the world would be a different place without Judy. She was used by her mother and Mayer from MGM. She was barely 5' tall but her voice was over 10' tall. I never ever get tired of hearing Judy! She had more talent than most of her male co-stars and got paid 1/10th of what they did - so sad! Rest in peace Judy 'baby Gumm' Garland! You are missed!

Judy Garland had her own show on TV From September 1963 to about June 1964. On Novemeber 22 1963, John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. The whole country seemd to die with him that day. This was probably a tribute to President Kennedy after he was killed. I was 13 in Jr.High 8th grade when JFK was killed and remember Judy singing this. This song is still very emotional to me. In 1968 when President Kennedy's brother Bobby was assassinated. Singer Andy Williams sang this song at RFK's funeral..

The Judy Garland Show only ran one season 1963-64. It was a great program and she had wonderful guest stars. Judy started on the vaudeville circuit when she was a small child. She was in a trio act with her two sisters. She was born Frances Ethel Gumm, and the act was The Gumm Sisters. She changed her name to Judy Garland in 1934, the exact circumstances of how that name was chosen are not really known. The most popular version is that at one theater they were working the MC was George Jessel, a very popular comic and master of ceremonies for variety show at the time. Jessel said that, "Little Frances Gumm is as pretty as a garland of flowers" and the name stuck. Anyway, her most well-known performance is still as Dorothy in the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz," for which "Over the Rainbow" was written. That became her signature song. She went on to make many films, and perform in one-woman concerts. An interesting compare and contrast exercise is to watch her performance of "Get Happy" from her film "Summer Stock," and then contrast it with her duet with Barbara Streisand. Streisand had recorded a slow, ballad version of the Depression uptempo song "Happy Days are Here Again," for her first album, so for this duet Judy sings "Get Happy" in ballad style. It's one of the great musical duets. Here's the "Summer Stock" clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2jHYYGImtytjZY And here's the duet: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHe5qYtph9msnrM

I read that Judy, who was a good friend of JFK, wanted to do a tribute to honor the recently assassinated president. Unfortunately the heads of CBS, the network that televised her show, did not allow her to do so. Instead she sang "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" her own way of paying tribute. She taped the show on December 13, 1963, 3 weeks after his murder. There was such a positive reaction to that performance she said she wanted to do another song that was comparable to this song, but she said there was nothing comparable to this song and sang it again on her show. This video was that performance. In my opinion the first performance was better than this one, although both were more than outstanding.

This song dates from the 1850 - 1860s. The lyrics were written by Julia Ward Howe to the tune of an older anti-slavery song (John Brown's Body). Essentially Howe's Battle Hymn was the theme song for the war to end slavery. Howe had visited the camps of the Northern army and said the song just came to her. Judy Garland didn't sing the whole song. Here are the lyrics as Howe wrote them. www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44420/battle-hymn-of-the-republic

This is the second time she sang it on her show. If you think this is great, watch the first one. The first time was right after JFK’s assassination and she’d been told by the show’s producers she couldn’t sing it, so she was in a defiant mode, plus wanting to shred it for JFK. Talk about blowing the roof off of a joint. According to people there, even the orchestra members gave her a standing ovation. If you want to look for it, she’s wearing a spangly dress.

This is The Song that bands played in the North during the Civil War as our "Anthem" to support the Northern cause "let us die to make men free", is supposed to be a direct reference to ending slavery. The song's performance here was soon after the assassination of President Kennedy. I was 8 and remember when the President was shot. The entire country was still in mourning. And she was a friend of President Kennedy, so this performance came from her heart. There is no song, and it is a hymn, that is more important to American history.

May I suggest some American Standard style music. This style is much older; 1930’s to 1950’s that is so amazing, and a true feast for listening. These songs have been performed by many singing artist over the years and each performance are satisfying. Keep in mind that these songs are based on solid lyrics as compared to contemporary music that emphasizes rhythms and beats. Try Lena Horne Singing Stormy Weather, or Over the Rainbow written by Harold Arlen. Then listen to Lush Life and Take the A Train written by Billy Strayhorn. Lush Life was written when Billy was 17-18 years of age, in his home of Harlem about a lost love. Think of this line: “A week in Paris will ease the bite of it all.” This from a black teen in Harlem in the 1930’s!?!? Powerful image. Maybe look for versions by Johnny Hartman, Nat King Cole, blossom Dearie, Ella, Sarah Vaughn, or Sinatra. For more recent versions look for Natalie Cole, Queen Latifah, or Lady Gaga. For straight up Jazz: Miles Davis, Kind of Blue.

The poem was written during the Civil War. It only took a short time for it to be set to music and then became an anthem for the union army. The lyric “let us die to make men free” literally means the union soldiers were dying So that the slaves would be set free.

One of the greatest singers who ever lived. She still sounds incredible here, but by this time years of drinking, drugs and smoking had started to take a toll on her voice. If you want to hear Judy at her absolute best, I suggest listening to her INCREDIBLE performance of The Man That Got Away from the 1954 move A Star is Born. Here is a link to it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX-npmprnKqcf9E

She was a JFK supporter as well as his brother Robert who worked against discrimination. Beautiful song written during the civil war for the north against the south to free the slaves
