Deleted scene from The Wizard of Oz. While imprisoned by the Wicked Witch, Dorothy sings Over The Rainbow one more time and cries. Shot on set on October 17, 1938, this scene was cut during the previews of the movie partially due to time issues and because it was considered too intense for children at the time.

You’re right they weren’t. They were absolutely 100% real. I actually read somewhere that in order for this scene to be done. They had to make her cry on purpose. I’m not exactly sure what they said to her but I know what crying sounds like and I know what real crying sounds like granted Judy Garland is so amazing that sometimes you cannot tell the difference but this time You could really tell the difference and this was not acting. This was genuine.

They said timing of the movies test screening version was over two hours long would loved to see that version but all the footage is gone

I saw a uncut version of this in early 1990s as a child on bbc tv she was trapped in the castle when she sung this and the version I watched was 2 hours long now it cut to 1 hour and 40 mins so much stuff and witch scenes has been cut out as it very scary

@@abrahamsimmons6694 I saw a uncut version in early 1990s on bbc tv network and it was 2 hours long and she was trapped in the castle singing this it was sad, and so much has been cut and edited in fact it stands at 1 hour and 40mins today .

@@bleeuk There's no way you seen it because the footage was destroyed once the movie was finished I'm 37 and a huge Oz fan books and all and what your saying is not true!

@@abrahamsimmons6694 it true, i did see it when i was a kid, me and my family, dad and mom, seen the uncut version/TV Cut, there was lots of scenes has been removed to the normal edit as it stands 1 Hour and 40mins, I Saw the TV Version on BBC 2 in 1993 on A Sunday and it was 2 Hours and 4 mins long no ad breaks, funny enough if you look on imdb on trivia it says in the 1980s and 1990s TV network like CBS had uncut version, the original is still alive somewhere, as the versions at one point was in the cinemas and had copy worldwide, the fire was only one place, with behind the scenes, and some to major stuff! Destroyed but not the TV or Cinema Cuts

Helps to be horribly, terribly mistreated and stuffed full of copious drugs after 72 hour shifts to continue working Her life was terribly sad

She was literally being abused on set. That is why she is crying. Do some research first before you sound like a douche.

They cut it because Dorothy did it too well kids would’ve been inconsolable

She wasn't crying for the song..she was actually being abused. She was sexually assaulted on set and made to chain smoke a ton of cigarettes to help reduce her appetite and keep her small stature. She was only 16 at that time. They constantly gave her drugs to take and kept the abuse going and in this audio you can hear her crying..that's why they cut it. She was only 16..God help her.

Tell me about it I feel so bad for her and we have people literally trying to cancel her because she did certain things that are not acceptable by today standards but in her defense, she had no choice but to do them anybody who wants to demonize this woman for anything really needs to do their research and please know I don’t mean you because I agree with what you’re saying.

@@paulp.6555 just because the Director says cut that’s take three. It doesn’t mean that she’s acting. This person is right when they made her perform this she was literally in tears. I even read somewhere that they said the best way to do. This was to literally make her cry and they did that you are the one who needs to listen.

The Footage is (Trapped in the Castle) Scene from Uncut (Limited Run) and original versions Only, that was 2 Hours Long! Some TV Networks in the 1980s and Early 1990s like BBC, CBS had exclusive TV Right to show as normal edits is Due To Copyright, The Fire From MGM destroyed Some - major Masterpieces and Behind The Scenes Footage and Draft Takes, but the Original/uncut is still around but rare, they was showed as copies in major Original Cinema and TV Limited Run only, Now the total Time, Home Video or Normal Edits has dropped to 1 Hour 40mins running time.

Garland was too good. I don’t believe an actress today could match the emotions…. and the singing. I just saw another KZbin of this deleted scene and it has the orchestration. This scene here is perhaps the rehearsal and it’s only with the piano. The deleted scene with orchestration is good and just as heartbreaking. However it continues to the scene where Aunt ‘Em shows up in the crystal ball and Judy is talking to her and that kind of brings back a strength to the Dorothy character that I think would’ve offset the heartbreak of this deleted scene. So I go back-and-forth on whether it should’ve been kept in.
