Fantastic performance...Judy Garland was a tremendously talented woman and people should stop looking for imperfections and arguing about her personal problems. Nobody is perfect and sure as hell nobody is as versatile as she was! She gave everything to the entertainment industry and that took a toll on her health, no doubt. It's sad to see her personal problems overshadow her abilities and the joy she brought (and still brings) to many.

Then a costume reveal to a dress cut for movement, the vamp of a classic Gershwin tune from out of the darkness…. then manifestation of background singers and scenery, orchestra, all the accoutrements of performance, like she summoned it to existence by belting out this old classic…. ❤

Judy Garland was the greatest performer of the 20th century. Streisand can sing, of course, but for me personally, I always have to stop resenting her which always happens when I hear her sing. She can't act or dance and the funny shtick gets old fast. But then she sweeps me along and I forget all the rest. But with Judy Garland, who can act and dance is is funny too, there is no hesitation. I love her and I've loved her ever since I saw Meet me in St. Louis when I was 4 years old. Where Streisand holds herself back, sort of, Garland instantly connects. You go to Streisand, Garland comes to you, and the connection is amazing. The reason I'm comparing them is that in popular music both are number one and I'm trying to figure out why I give the edge to Garland. With Garland there is no protective barrier, she is simply there with her astounding voice. Garland, Streisand, Billie Holiday. Compared to Madonna, Swift, Melissa Manchester. I am a poet, I strive to be a great poet, I persevere, I work everyday, I look up words, I balance sentences, I think, feel, and work hard. So at 80 why am I surrounded by such lame performers. But there are singers who are moving forward, Home Free, Stephen Berry, Seth Sikes. Performers who should be famous and aren't replaced by talented singers who lack that little something extra. That little something extra which makes all the difference. The truth is, you can work as hard as you can but without tht little something, well, you won't achieve greatness. For me personally it's all about greatness, I'm not interested in pizzazz in place of depth and I feel that way about my own writing. Well, anyway, sorry for such a long, probably boring, comment. Cheers, A

The pre recorded that because they wanted to focus on acting the song. They had her sitting down, sad looking- again nothing to do with her amazing talent

@whurdsderodan . . . yes, there is at least one or two more segments of this show that occasionally turn up here -- I'm assuming their duration expires for some required reason? There recently was the touching (I thought, given alleged circumstances) introductory segment of this show where she opened with You Made Me Love You to slowly parted series of curtains that I tought was cool -- anchronistic, yes -- but so TV typical for its day and I hope it turns up again -- and for all I know there may be more that eventually show up. Her weight was not a lot but TV add 10 lbs to a person. she was tiny @ 4'11'' Also this was the beginning of her getting ACUTE Hepatitus & then by 1958/59 she ballooned to 180lbs.
