Haha That's MY edit! I had an old VHS from decades ago that had the ending. I added it to the existing beginning of the song to make the complete number. All the commercial releases of this number are cut.

She has trouble getting her coat off, but she goes with it, even making a bit of it. The song starts sooner than she'd planned; she goes with it, etc. In addition to her prodigious talent, she has a way of having down-to-earth fun and inviting her viewers in on it. No wonder people respond to her.

Fantastic performance...Judy Garland was a tremendously talented woman and people should stop looking for imperfections and arguing about her personal problems. Nobody is perfect and sure as hell nobody is as versatile as she was! She gave everything to the entertainment industry and that took a toll on her health, no doubt. It's sad to see her personal problems overshadow her abilities and the joy she brought (and still brings) to many.

This performance is amazing- she comes out like a seeming older grandmother wandering on stage…. Then a costume reveal to a dress cut for movement, the vamp of a classic Gershwin tune from out of the darkness…. then manifestation of background singers and scenery, orchestra, all the accoutrements of performance, like she summoned it to existence by belting out this old classic…. ❤

@@grai Yeah, no she's not singing live here. There's nothing wrong with it. It was common practice. This was done live, and they didn't have the technology at that point to have a boom mic follow someone dancing up a storm all over the stage. It's not like Playhouse 90. Now, on The Judy Garland Show, most if not all of that was sung live. But this is not live. It's obvious on many levels.

This was lipsynced but not because Judy wasn't up to it. It was because this is live television and with all that dancing there wouldn't have been a way to capture the sound adequately. This is what happened with some of her opening numbers on her weekly show too. But we can bet she pre recorded the song in one take!!

Judy Garland was the greatest performer of the 20th century. Streisand can sing, of course, but for me personally, I always have to stop resenting her which always happens when I hear her sing. She can't act or dance and the funny shtick gets old fast. But then she sweeps me along and I forget all the rest. But with Judy Garland, who can act and dance is is funny too, there is no hesitation. I love her and I've loved her ever since I saw Meet me in St. Louis when I was 4 years old. Where Streisand holds herself back, sort of, Garland instantly connects. You go to Streisand, Garland comes to you, and the connection is amazing. The reason I'm comparing them is that in popular music both are number one and I'm trying to figure out why I give the edge to Garland. With Garland there is no protective barrier, she is simply there with her astounding voice. Garland, Streisand, Billie Holiday. Compared to Madonna, Swift, Melissa Manchester. I am a poet, I strive to be a great poet, I persevere, I work everyday, I look up words, I balance sentences, I think, feel, and work hard. So at 80 why am I surrounded by such lame performers. But there are singers who are moving forward, Home Free, Stephen Berry, Seth Sikes. Performers who should be famous and aren't replaced by talented singers who lack that little something extra. That little something extra which makes all the difference. The truth is, you can work as hard as you can but without tht little something, well, you won't achieve greatness. For me personally it's all about greatness, I'm not interested in pizzazz in place of depth and I feel that way about my own writing. Well, anyway, sorry for such a long, probably boring, comment. Cheers, A

@@mujinhanfearlessmu9072 I'm sure that's true. But for the human ear. 1950s television sound equipment is another matter. I want to stress again that doing that is not a knock on her talent. She was brilliant. There were just various reasons why the director would decide to do a number that way. Look at her performance from, I think, Hollywood Palace of The Man That Got Away. The pre recorded that because they wanted to focus on acting the song. They had her sitting down, sad looking- again nothing to do with her amazing talent

@whurdsderodan . . . yes, there is at least one or two more segments of this show that occasionally turn up here -- I'm assuming their duration expires for some required reason? There recently was the touching (I thought, given alleged circumstances) introductory segment of this show where she opened with You Made Me Love You to slowly parted series of curtains that I tought was cool -- anchronistic, yes -- but so TV typical for its day and I hope it turns up again -- and for all I know there may be more that eventually show up. Interesting.

She was terrified of doing TV for the first time. It took a long time 2 get her to agree & with all that went on & her throat prob it was the highest rated Tv special for yrs to come. Her weight was not a lot but TV add 10 lbs to a person. she was tiny @ 4'11'' Also this was the beginning of her getting ACUTE Hepatitus & then by 1958/59 she ballooned to 180lbs. She also carried weight differently. Notice she had a very short torso & long legs so when she gained it really was more noticeable.

Judy accidentally took too many pills a few hours before this show and her husband, Sid, sent out for Chinese food and kept making pots of coffee. Judy was almost comatose but he brought her back.
