Two things...where you connected the boost pipe at the turbo, is next to the boost modulator which discoveries have but Defenders dont, this could cause wiggle on the gauge when its actuating, the other culprit may be a restrictor, when i fitted mine it had a little filter type thing with some wadding in it, tiny little thing looked like a spinning top, but i notice you didnt have one, i didnt fit mine at first until my gauge did like your does, soon as i fitted it ... bingo, smooth as silk, Mine was also very bright blue, i had it in the binnacle in place of the clock directly infront of me (Defender) dazzling at night so i moved it into the centre console below the radio which is better, i dont tend to drive at night much so not affected too much .

Derek, I think David is correct in his thinking the boost modulator could be causing the problem. Eventually I put my take off pipe on opposite side of the engine, in the inlet manifold.

@@martinrothwell8966thats exactly were i fitted mine, end of the inlet manifold, more accurate reading.

Thank you. The gauge did not come with a filter so I might have to make something up.
