Well done, Mawaan, I see you've riled up a good few in just these comments too...! Typical BBC etc etc...x

Oh my fur and whiskers! Hope this will be available outside the UK as well. For your perusal, some more Wonderland quotes. "I wonder which way I ought to go." "It would be so nice if something made sense for a change." "If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense." "I'm afraid I can't explain myself, sir. Because I'm not myself, you know." "Most everyone's mad here." "Can you stand on your head?"

Anyone else think that if you're gay, bisexual, trans... some other alternative you'll more likely get exposure from the BBC than if you're say 'white working class and male?' I'm glad to an extent the BBC seeks to broaden people's perspectives, but "classism" is the biggest prejudice in Western society bar-none! And there isn't anywhere near enough effort to challenge this... in fact I think society more often compensates for tackling this by overreacting in other areas? Easier to tweak around the edges, than to deal with the real difficult questions of prejudice in our society. We should be challenging all prejudices with equal priority, but I do not think this is the case with class issues, and social mobility.

Yes, it's virtue signalling, and all the studios do it.
@sebastianwrites
@sebastianwrites Жыл бұрын
I don't usually agree when people speak of 'virtue signalling' but unfortunately you are correct in this context@@Guess_Whos_Depressed ! I'm a writer, bullied on deprived estates, and criminalised by the same bullying neighbours when the police should have been there to protect me. Such as Edinburgh University, and various other places... when I have been honest about what I've been experiencing? Apparently it makes people feel 'uncomfortable.' The whole point of our consciences is that we feel 'uncomfortable' when we see injustice... we don't then instead cowardly compound the injustice by further ostracising the very person who experienced this? Staggering hypocrisy!

Well, speaking as a working class minority, I do agree that class is a social issue that has not been tackled enough. But the working class need to stop voting in successive Tory governments, as the tories have never and will never have their interests at heart - their mission and priority is to protect the interests of the rich. You shouldn’t divide the white working class struggle from that of other minority groups either - those at the top want you to blame someone else who is economically disadvantaged rather than blame the system rigged in favour of the rich, mostly white, elite. I don’t for a second discount your personal experience that you describe on your estate - it is wrong that it hasn’t been dealt with fairly, but I’ve also seen the same in reverse. It’s terrible when someone, of any colour or background, doesn’t get justice. No doubt there is tokenism in tv representation these days, particularly putting mixed race people on TV to tick the diversity box. But overall, in society as a whole, working class blacks and Asians are trodden on just as much as working class white males. Don’t divide our struggle, we need to change the whole fraudulent system that is set up by and for a few billionaires and millionaires exploiting the other 95% of the world’s population. That is the real battle.
@sebastianwrites
@sebastianwrites Жыл бұрын
Well spoken! I used a white working class male as an example. But I genuinely think, and I didn't use to see it this way... that say a university has some criteria for meeting varying social inclusion. And I think 'all' barriers should be removed when it comes to prejudice... but if someone of colour, of a different race, sexual, religion etc... I doubt they are going to let that person replace some rich upper white girl, but they'll more like do you not think prevent some white working class, or middle class man going who doesn't fill any criteria? And yes, I've seen the police acting time and again racist towards people of colour. My point with all of this is@@mrhealth8334... the window dress these issues at the edges instead of getting to the root cause? And yes, I absolutely agree with you on the last paragraph. I'm not attacking any group, as I said... what I am attacking is tokenism. I'm not sure how I could state this more clearly... I had hoped I had made the distinction clear? And unfortunately the working class vote in the Tories time and again, because they are deceived through disinformation. Thanks again for your thoughtful response. If there's anything you think I can add to my original response... I will, I don't wish to detract from the fact the fact that 'class' is the main prejudice? It's clearly very complicated, and I was hoping that I wasn't overly generalising?
@mrhealth8334
@mrhealth8334 Жыл бұрын
@@sebastianwrites I see your point about tokenism only tackling things at the edges. And I agree that the powers that be would be more likely to tokenise based on colour or sexual orientation rather than a white working class lad, it’s lazy as well as patronising. I agree that a clear focus on class does need to come through a lot more strongly.
