India, you may have heard rapper Shaggy sampling this song on his 2001 hit "Angel," featuring Rayvon. Same main melody. ... "Girl, you're my angel, you're my darling angel / Closer than my peeps you are to me, baby / Shorty, you're my angel, you're my darling angel / Girl, you're my friend when I'm in need, lady"

Others recorded it before her, but Juice's version is the one that most people expect to hear when they reference this song. It wasn't hers first but she soared higher with it than any other artist.

Oh! Fun fact about Juice Newton …..She went to First Colonial High School in Va. Bch. Va. with my older brothers and had classes with my oldest brother.... before she left high school to cut a deal in Los Angels she lived with her mom and dad three houses down from our family . Her parents had two cute Chow Chow's ( dogs ) that would sometimes let me pet/ play with them when I would go up to the fenced in yard . She did not have any siblings . I was nine years younger than her so I only knew about her years after she had moved away to Los Angles .

Chip Taylor was the author and first to record Angel of the Morning in 1966, another best known song of his is Wild Thing. In 1968 Merrilee Rush sang and recorded Angel of the Morning taking it to the top of the charts. Since then many artist have done a rendition with only Juice Newton bringing the song back to the top of the charts in 1980. Although Chips recording is authentic, Merrilee's is nostalgic, as she created the original version with the tones of her voice and feelings we know as the song.

This is a cover of the original Angel of the Morning by Merilee Rush and the Turnabouts, 1968. Rush and the Turnabouts were a popular band in the Pacific Northwest in the mid to late 1960s. This was one of those one hit wonders, although a national hit. Juice Newton covered it and it became a hit again.

Back in a time when singers had to rely solely on their voice and no machine gimmicks like today
@carlmartin27102 жыл бұрын
There were studio tricks for voices back then. Not computerized auto-tune like today but they did stuff. Also Juice Newton is either fully lip-synching or singing to heavily pre-recorded backing tracks in this video (no offense at all to her as a talent which she was).

I was 11 years old when this song came out by Juice Newton. Juice Newton's version is a cover, but is the most popular version. The original version came out sometime in the 60s. You said that you heard the song before, well Shaggy had a song that had the same tune as this song called "Angel" that came out in 2000. I'm also recommending another singer no one else has done a reaction to yet. Her name is Crystal Gayle singing "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue". I figure if you do a reaction to Crystal Gayle you might as well start off with her signature song. Here's the KZbin link for the live version from The Midnight Special. In case you decide to do the reaction. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXnJeqGIp7d6eas

I know one thing...Juice Newton was a multi platinum selling artist with a pearl sting of Grammy award winning hits adored the world over. If I may, as a girl dad, have to say that she gave to me the greatest insight into the world of true feminism from a beautiful women in the music industry...who wasn't afraid to show her feelings. If there could be any comparable females in country/pop music today, Taylor Swift is clearly cut from the same cloth. Uncanny in almost every way, seemingly enough. Girls are so smart. That's how I feel.

Fun Tidbits~~ This song was written by Chip Taylor. He also wrote "Try (Just a Little Bit Harder)" recorded by Janis Joplin and also the 1966 smash hit "Wild Thing" by The Troggs. And Sorry folks but the Merilee Rush version is actually a Cover of the Original by Evie Sands that Juice then covered and had the most success in sales and chart wise. Although the best fun tidbit is that Chip is Jon Voight's Brother which makes him... Angelina Jolie's Uncle.
