Juice Newton - Angel of the morning. One of the greatest songs ever! Her voice is outstanding! As good now as then. Thanks Sarah for your Juice Newton reaction! 🙂

It first became a hit in 1968 by Merrilee Rush. (She wasn't the first one to release it.)

Chip Taylor wrote the song and did release it at one point i think. Cool tidbits: he also wrote Wild Thing (hit by The Troggs), and his brother is John Voight. So, he's Angelina Jolie's uncle.

My favorite song by her is "Love's Been a Little Bit Hard on Me". This is probably my second favorite. It's such a catchy song. I think this was probably her biggest hit.

Now listen to “The Joker” by Steve Miller Band if you want to know where Shaggy pulled the bass line and beat from (it’s also a great song!). Shaggy’s version is essentially a mashup of these 2 songs.

To me Juice was absolutely amazing! Every song she released in the late 70’s to the mid 80’s hit both the pop and country charts-THE SAME CUT!!! “Cheap Love” is a really cool one also

Back in the days of vinyl, cassettes, CDs we took advantage and read the jacket/liner notes (if included) to learn about the musicians, songwriters, producers etc. Now, even with all that info and more at our fingertips, most young people are too lazy or just don't care. Good to see you have an interest in the building blocks of pop music.

Happy Thursday buddy. Great reaction to the song. And I apologize for being a true music head/musician who loves music and knows music (might as well call me the young black rock musician version of Quincy Jones or the black Dave Grohl) but this song and the video was played on MTV during the channel's first day. Guess you beat me on the Shaggy sample LOL.

That’s what I figured out now that I’ve heard it today because when I was growing up with this I didn’t pay any attention to it! Yep. She’s having an affair with him she’s in love with him and he goes back to his family and his wife and it’s very sad and lonely for her. The song is so passionate actually makes me almost cry. I agree that there’s not a lot of creative songs these days like there were back in the 70s an 80s. I especially love the 70s. And you already know now that this song she did was a cover of the original from the 60s!

This vocal by her is great but I can't help but imagine if someone had the idea of starting their own fruit and vegetable juice company if their surname was newton (the newton juice company)they would have been sued for breach of copywrite just like those guys who tried to start their own company selling porridge who tried to name their company haulin oats (after the band hall and oats)

A whole lot of what is called "Rap" is in no way, shape, or form original. No talent/low talent rhymes is about all it is. Your younger generations that think todays music is so good....has absolutely noooo idea what real TALENT is all about. Real entertainers played their own, real instruments. They actually could sing. No Auto tune or computer generated anything. Dig? They wrote their own lyrics. If they did a cover of someone else's stuff it was clearly evident. No one "Sampled"/borrowed/stole any other artists work the way its done today. Might as well just tell it like it is. No real talent rap "stars" suck.

@@sf0tacticalguy he changed lyrics, but he used the main melody. He just added a few different parts to it, and did it in his own style. As soon as she started playing the newer version it was extremely clear - I recognized the same melody after only about 5 notes - and this is why it was so familiar to her. I don’t understand where the confusion is coming from here.
