When using stormbreaker strong weilders must use a smelling salt to avoid awakening storm breakers true strength (or in James's case many many salts because he's already overpowered as it is) every time strormbreaker has its lightning it has been James without salts

Wakandan shield is more piercing weapon, it's more effective in killing than some blunt weapons like hammer. But in smashing toys it's rather uneffective x)

Storm Breaker is simultaneously a war hammer and an axe, so either way is effective. The blade would have been used if they were looking to try to split the car, but a) they wanted to hit it more than once, and b) if they had missed (or cleaved right through it), it could both put a nasty mark on the floor and ruin the axe head. The hammer is less likely to deform itself.
