My country has had an intense migration of different peoples, including Japanese. Among these, many were martial artists who were trying a new life. Grace's father, in his travels through the interior of the Amazon found a Japanese judo master, called Coma Konji (the second name comes from the fame of all his opponents ended in coma) who taught him his art.

Very nice... Lets keep in mind, BJJ doesn't work in street fights, it's made for the cage, with rules. This, however does and has been proven in combat!

Royce Gracie did not invent BJJ, his father, Helio Gracie did. Helio did not study Jujutsu. Helio's older brother Carlos studied Judo under Japanese Judo master Mitsuyo Maeda, who was a student of Jigoro Kano at the Kodokan in Japan. Maeda came to Brazil to teach Judo and called his style Kano Jiu-Jitsu, as westerners were not familiar with the term Judo yet. Maeda taught Carlos Gracie, but Helio was too small and weak to master Judo's throws, so he focused on newaza and created BJJ.

Technically you're correct. But a little mixed up, judo is as different from jujutsu as taekwondo is from shotokan karate. The creator of judo trained under jujitsu schools, kito-ryu being one. The founders of the KTA held ranks in shotokan. Yes by today's standard judo is way different, but even tkd is that way, you easily have 4 different styles, the worst being olympic en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judo en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_masters_of_taekwondo

Hi - great Video - well shot - great to see nice clean, sharp techniques - focus and attention to detail. One small point on the overhead stick attack - shime-waza (juho-waza) jacket choke - tori turns his head to Uke's arm for protection applying the technique - fine - but should not obscure his own vision from seeing another attacker or situational awareness. Great stuff!

After some time Gracie moved to Rio de Janeiro (over 5000 km away), where he consolidated his reputation. But what was most remarkable was that even with a weak constitution, he became a brawler unbeatable in the alleys of Rio His fame brought many followers to the new style he had been consolidating.

@AlexLococo I agree too that "getting on the floor" is not the best option and should be avoided at all costs. I'm with you on that. What I try to tell you is sometimes "getting on the floor" is unavoidable and you might not have an option on that. You better know how to defend yourself when you get in that situation. Suddenly, in that scenario, knowing BJJ, Judo, Catch Wrestling or what not IS the "BEST IDEA" actually.

@AlexLococo By the way, the US Army makes BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) not Traditional jujutsu, part of the curriculum. This should tell you BJJ is for combat, that is real mortal combat, not just for the cage.
@jjs3890
@jjs3890 5 жыл бұрын
There is nothing combative about BJJ. It only addresses the weaponless ground element in a one on one fight on flat stable terrain. And the US military removed the hand to hand combat systems in 2001-2003 because there were more troops going to jail for hospitalizing folks than there were enemies getting thrashed in battle. Congress mandated the removal of CQC and replaced it with sport fightingto address those issues. And BJJ is only part of the new fighting system because it's only 1/3 rd of a complete system. Ever see a BJJ fight fare well with multiple attackers? No, and you never will.

@AlexLococo bjj and choson judo are the same thing. royce himself said in an interview that its the same thing, all his family did was add leverage, so yes it is an imitation. and last time i checked bjj is 90% ground work so how does judo 'emphazise on ground work' and jujutsu doesnt? you mind telling me why i cant compare them? there isnt a single martial art that was invented to be a sport. there is however a shit load that have been turned into sports.

But his style was being lost, with the jiujitsu taken more and more to the sporting side, losing much of their martial arts, completely corrupting its initial proposal of martial art. Nothing I said is supreme, everything is subject to errors, and any one can fix or suggest some information, I have helped to clarify some of what is jiujitsu.

You can’t use a martial art in a real life situation without practicing with resistance, kata won’t do it, you need to practice against someone who doesn’t want the technique applied. You need randori, and to do randori you need rules. I know from experience you can teach someone to do a textbook seoi nage in 20 minutes provides you don’t give any resistance, doing in randori is much much harder until you practice in randori. Kata has very limited uses.
@jjs3890
@jjs3890 5 жыл бұрын
Jujutsu schools that still pratice for self defense start with compliant Kata and then build up resistance as they go up the rank ladder and apply safer methods for sparring. But traditional Jujutsu requires applying the principals of swordsmanship so it must be repetitive and slow in the beginning. Sword principals have proven, after centuries of use in life and death conflict, to be more efficient in combat. In sport...maybe not so much because that's a completely different paradigm. Gloves, rules and guaranteed single known attacker, no weapons, mats and safety... changes everything. Both are very useful for self defense but the purpose for training in not comparable.

You have to teach it realistically if they have a katana in feudal Japan you can use aikido combining styles is very usefully they won't have they will have guns unarmed clubs knifed I prefer mutipal styles like shotokan karate Japanese jujutsu and aikido you need joint locks standing up as well on the ground

There is nothing gay about bjj. I understand that it may look like that, but there really is no room for homophobia when you're getting choked. And the name Brasilian Jiu Jitsu is a bit misleading. The art that Gracies learned was not jujutsu, it was judo (in it's original form). BJJ is most definately not shit. It's one of the most effective forms of grappling known to man. The Gracies and others have been proving that for decades. Nice video by the way. Keep up the good work Sasuga guys.
@jjs3890
@jjs3890 5 жыл бұрын
They have proven that BJJ is best at winning BJJ competitions. MMA came about because BJJ was no longer enough to win the MMA competitions because everyone caught on. I can't tell how many times I witnessed wrestlers thrash BJJ folks in open grappling competitions. And on the street it works well so long as it's a one on one fight without weapons against an untrained fighter on flat stable terrain. I heard all the hype too but...it just doesn't add up. It's just another art with very specific uses.

Its great to see REAL Jiu Jitsu rather than that ground fighting impractical BJJ stuff. Sure it can be ok but against multiple attackers its weak. This is the real stuff.
@Ultradude604
@Ultradude604 13 жыл бұрын
@AlexLococo BJJ has saved lives in the streets, in car jacking attempts and even against knife attacks. Although BJJ is a sport, it is a martial art first for the streets, a sport second. Helio Gracie, the creator of BJJ had that in mind. Just because BJJ can be practice as a sport does not mean it can't be a effective martial art. An armlock still breaks the elbow joint on the street if the assailant don't know how to defend it, so can I choke. Your ignorance is laughable.

No true. Strikes to the exposed areas that armor does not cover are simulated.
@jjs3890
@jjs3890 5 жыл бұрын
Many traditional Jujutsu schools had and still have striking in their systems. Jujutsu is a mixture of Yawara, Tai Jutsu, wajutsu, sumo, koppojutsu (complete striking art). Jujutsu blended these systems and created Jujutsu after the time of big battles was over. Multiple, armed attackers without armor became the norm and Jujutsu had to address this in the most efficient manner. Striking was generally used to set up throws or locks for immeadeate break and disposal. So striking has always existed but used very differently from modern striking.
