When Sonic lands the last hit on the mini-boss, the song finishes. And then it moves on to the next zone, one semitone higher-this continues until Death Egg Zone’s Red Eye, where the song has been pitched so many times that it’s gone up one whole octave-back to the original key! And THIS is why i like sonic way more than mario Sonic tries to craft an interesting story, with levels, with music All mario ever seems to do is repeat what he's always been doing On top of all this, Sonic never has the exact same story twice, his stories are always evolving and changing as the franchise grew older I won't ignore the attempts Nintendo had with mario and stories, hell i heard Paper Mario had some interesting stuff But they just don't seem as inclined or interested in a good story as Sonic Team is That's all just my opinion though, that's my reason for being here and rockin' out

the 5-6-7-6 progression used at the start of the theme is in the main theme of Goldeneye 007 for the N64, so that may be where you're hearing similarities!
