I really love those early SUPERMAN stories because he’s such a smart ass and often wields his powers just because he can. He has no patience for any criminals and often lets them have it just on convenient principle. Of course later they cleaned him up and made him more righteous and responsible, but this era where he’s a wild rogue agent is really interesting and more like 80’s Batman. The first issues of THE SPECTRE are the same and I hope those come out in this epic FINEST series. I think by default kids were just tougher in that era than they became after the war. Then the Code was imposed and comics really went off the deep end with being condescending. Great look at this new series, my friend! Keep ‘em coming!

Thanks Glen, great points there about these early Superman adventures. I've finished the book now and although a tad predicable, they were great fun. Most of the books I've never read before so really enjoyed the new (to me) ones. I'm sure some Spectre will come in due course.

I have just finished Batman Y1&2 and I thought it was fantastic. Hoping to get Justice Society for xmas. According to those who have mapped the volumes , it could easily be 40 volumes for just the golden age of Superman.

It's true, I'm definitely going to be selective. That's why I have skipped the Wonder Woman GN for now. I'll pick up pretty much all the silver age ones though and the best of what came later. I too have a few I'm hoping for as presents 🙂

Getting mine through Speedyhen by preference for the best shipped price, initial order of Superman, Batman, Flash and Justice League has taken all month to arrive in dribs and drabs, just put on an order for Wonder Woman, Zero Hour, Green Lantern and Legion which are at least showing as on stock and ready to ship. May hit up Forbidden Planet for Catwoman and Justice Society just to get up to date, maybe grab a few books from the clearance menu to offset the postage a bit. Reading Superman at the moment, fun but kind of slow going. Fully intend to be all in with these for the moment, replacing the older Silver Age paperbacks for some lines. Post Crisis Batman is going to be where I see the most double dipping with my Eaglemoss HCs. At some point we're probably going to hit releases where I already have thick trades of the material, be it Compendiums or things like the current Morrison era JLA thick trades, that might be where I have to get a bit more selective about what Finest I'm picking up.

Thanks, I've not looked into Speed then as an option on these, I shall check them out. I think it's very easy to say you're going to be selective about which ones to buy but I reckon eventually, I'll end up getting most of not all of these, especially if I can find the odd volume cheap. The early Superman was always going to be a bit slow but it improves over time👍

Agree with what you said in regards to the hardcovers, wouldn’t mind shilling out an extra fiver for the sake of longevity

Way,way cool.I wonder if there is a Batman: Elseworld Tales is in the mix. Great , well worth being in any comic lover collection .The Dark knight, The Killing Joke, Knight fall, are some of my faves . Ahem..... I love The Distinguished Competition, " . I can't wait for the July Wonder Woman The Legend of Wonder Woman book! It's the first time the Don Heck run will be published!! I still have my comics from this run. It takes the books right to 329, which was the last issue of the first run of Wonder Woman and the Crisis tie in. The 4 part mini series I was never a huge fan of. It felt like filler books, which they were really, until Perez began his 1987 run with the second series.

Thanks for the history. I'm a bit spotty on Wonder Woman but I do remember that superb Perez run. I bought the first twelve issues for my sister at the time and read them before I gave them to her🙂 This is such an exciting series and the possibilities are endless.

The colours seem way too neon. The original comics have a pleasing pastel look, partially because of the news print paper used at the time. Batman Year One appears to have been re-coloured too, a bit of an insult to Richmond Lewis the original colourist.

I suspect they are all recoloured. Standard practice these days.👍
