I prefer the digital version. Don’t get me wrong, the watercolour is lovely, but I think the colour in the digital version really pops and would be more likely to grab someone’s attention at first glance. Either way, I’m sure it will be great. Looking forward to see what you decide.

Hi Jules! I absolutely agree that the watercolor really showcases the whimsical nature of your work and is so so cute

Hi Jules, I hope you do not mind me saying this, but as a reader, I expect the cover to reflect what is on the inside. If the cover is digital and I turn the page to see watercolour illustrations, it would be strange. I also like your watercolour better. Good luck with your new book. Olcay x

Hi Jules, it‘ water colour for me! 🖖🏼

Digital is great. The level of control is amazing. I've used Procreate on Ipad Pro for my caricature artwork for a few years now. However, I've learned to not tell people I'm painting digitally because the response is usually, "Oh...so the computer is doing it all?". This is probably why the majority of professional digital illustrators go to great lengths using brushes that make their artwork look like traditionally painted pieces! So, in answer to your question, definitely watercolour. 😊

Watercolour. Inspires kids to imitate the imagery. My kids often got inspired or copied favourite book covers. Pens and or atercolour is more accessible, closer to home materials...❤

I'm trying to keep life simple and watercolor is helping me with this. I vote Watercolor 🤗❤️🙏

Hands down the hand painted watercolor. But I do not like digital ever in children's books. And you are such a great children's illustrator so would be a shame not to have it all by you!

Your wonderful and whimsical watercolor all the way! I would know your art anywhere, even without your name on it. Whilst the digital image is very bright and clear, it looks like an AI 'knock off' of your work.❤

I love the watercolor one but then again I'm partial to it because I'm a wildlife watercolorist. Also may I ask what size watercolor paper you use to do a two page book spread? I'm working on a Christmas children's book I wrote

My wife likes the watercolor best, and I like the computer-painted one. So we’re no help at all! Always good to see your work, Jules.

I like the watercolor. It give the book a more interesting appearance. I've been using your videos to help me with my own first self illustrated book. I like the watercolor but it doesn't scan well. The scan doesn't pick up the color.

I agree with the majority here, watercolour all the way. Your illustrations have such charm and work well because there's such personality in this image when painted in your inimitable style. Also I feel that digital though vibrant and bold is really too polished and stagnant! Of course that's just my opinion but I'd choose the watercolour if I was buying this book for my grandchildren, hope this helps?

Well, you have some great reviews here! I’m kinda torn. I understand what you’re saying about the benefits of doing the digital for your color work and the colors are so very bold, but my heart loves your watercolor! So, I vote for the watercolor! Let your talent shine!

I've always enjoyed your watercolor illustrations, and I'm sure children would too🙂 This special touch will keep your work from blending into the never-ending stream of children's literature. I vote watercolor! I hope to try it myself, when I'm able😉 Thank you for the inspiring channel!

The digital Reay does pop but, I still like the watercolor. It has more "feeling" to it. ❤❤❤

I need to see both covers side by side to evaluate them. One suggestion is to change girl’s dress color. She blends into the grass too much. If the book is going to be watercolor, the cover should probably be the same. Besides it’s what we expect from your books. Good luck either way. Love your tutorials. 😍

To be honest, I’ve never liked the pencil work even after it had been wet because it still always looked like pencil. I’m leaning toward the digital version. Coming up to date with the rest of the world, I approve the digital. Your drawing work still shines through. Good luck on your decision.

I much prefer the watercolour over the digital one. The softer watercolours give a much more warm and inviting feel compared to the vibrant digital colours which to me, personally, are a bit too loud. I think the watercolour pairs much nicer with the actual line art itself as well, both looking completely hand drawn

I watched the video, took screenshots of both versions so I could see them side by side. I decided that the digital art part of my brain likes version #1 and how easy it is to correct stuff, but when I compared the two, trying to remember the long ago child part of my brain, my “inner child” likes version #2. 💫 I think because that long ago child can relate more to how it looks. So I decided, while I love both versions ❤, I vote for #2 - watercolor. Then I read the comments and saw that’s the popular vote! 😊 Question: If you go with watercolor, do you scan your image into Photoshop? What scanner do you recommend or use? Thanks for sharing your journey! ☮️💜

I’m an illustrator and like you, I do both digital and watercolour. I personally prefer your watercolour version. Digital always looks too perfect and controlled because like you say, you can just delete a mistake. Watercolour has flow and movement and looks like it took its artist along for the ride 😂 Enjoy and I hope this helped.

How do digital RGB colours look in CMYK print? Is 300dpi high enough quality for print?
@JulesMarriner2 ай бұрын
I've found printing in RGB makes the colours look horribly muddy. I'd opt for printing (and working) in CMYK.
@cinema_chic2 ай бұрын
I prefer the watercolor but the indigo makes it look muddy in that spot.
