Julie and Julia is one of my fav movies, literally any other media about this character is always welcomed ❤❤❤ so heartwarming
@WhoWho5692 жыл бұрын
I didn’t like that, because of the Julie part, which is boring as heck and pretty pointless from start to end. It literally makes the film look chopped. Could not stand it when it interrupted Julia’s actual life (what actually mattered) to cut to that pile of seriously lame nonsense. The Julia part was actually good, but whenever it cut to that Julie bs it was so annoying that it just made me give up on watching the film altogether, the first time around, and literally fast forward through those bits so I could finish it a second time. They just wanted to have a younger, good looking actress in there to get people to watch the film, and literally came up with the poorest, most out of place solution ever, with that pointless Julie character. I will definitely enjoy this a lot better.

She wasn't a TV star, she was just a cook who happened to have a massively popular show. She held homophobic views, but changed during the AIDS crisis, proving that anyone can change for the better. She was also worked for the OSS during WWII, helping against the Nazis. Julia, you have my utmost respect. Bon appetit.

My dad met her in Paris in 1944 when they were both OSS agents (my dad had landed in Brittany heading for Normandy in an 'unrecorded' Jedburgh mission (via submarine>dinghy) before D-Day, it's still classified to this day*), she took my dad and several or more other OSS agents on several occasions to her favorite top 4 or 5 restaurants in Paris "one every night" and introduced them to gourmet food (the restaurant owners and at least one chef remembered my dad post-WW2 in the late 1950s, 1960s and early 1970s and he got free meals at some of the most expensive restaurants in the world at the time and on at least 2 occasions with the whole family of six, they treated my dad like he was a national hero, it was slightly embarrassing, since all the staff treated us like royalty, one time was on my birthday and the whole bloody kitchen practically came out, along with all the customers, and sang happy birthday with flaming cake as I spiritually started retreating under the table), thanks to Julia my dad became a gourmet eating connoisseur of sorts for life (not translated into home cooking unfortunately, though my dad could make a good omelette on the rare occasion he ever interacted with a stove-top). Julia Child and my dad were lifelong friends and she didn't live far and came by our house (in Marin County) on several occasions for a dinner-party or yearly party type thing - I always avoided my parent's parties (being a kid) and hung out in or next to the kitchen and tried to scoff down as much gourmet treats when the caterers or my mum weren't looking - I was asked if I wanted to meet "really famous" Julia and I wasn't interested (I've had a deep aversion to celebrity-worship and aristocracy all my life since I was 7, e.g. at age 12 I refused to meet the King of Belgium once when he did a surprise visit to parents of a school-friend of mine, to the consternation of the adults in whose house I had just spent overnight at: my dad was simultaneously waiting for me in the driveway honking for the King's limousine to get out the way of a no-stopping zone - I didn't want to piss off my dad nor have to stand for 10 minutes while I had to pretend to be happy to meet some asshole King), another time (age 13.5) I refused to stand-up for the Duke of Edinburgh (UK Queen's husband) visiting the British School of Brussels new building opening and got suspended from middle-school, though all my teachers gave me credit and shook my hand after, the headmaster was new and a very unpopular conservative in a liberal-arts school who had just spent 10% of the school supplies budget on sprucing-way-up the entire school and buying the largest British flag outside of the UK at the time even though the Royal officials had previously expressly told him not to spend school funds on anything, the headmaster had gone bright red on national-TV because everyone could see I was the only person not standing up, the Duke even leaned in and waved at me. Afterwards I received a standing ovation at the faculty lounge that I was requested to briefly visit), and anyway concerning not wanting to meet Julia at a party: at age 15 I personally found the whole upper-middle-class 1940s-1950s 'square' and 'jazz' generation party thing too foreign for my taste (plus after young-childhood I never liked parties of any kind except dinner-parties, they always seemed just as creepy as enjoyable), my parents did instill in me a love for Jazz and gourmet food, not that I can afford either. *My dad, ostensibly an oil executive most of his life in Europe and the US (Caltex, Chevron...), is a permanently classified OSS & CIA agent, don't know exactly why, but he told me more than I was ever supposed to know in a PTSD confession to me at age 13: he was involved in the setting up of the CIA in 1947 and was the CIA briefer to Eisenhower 1952-1956 and spent an awful lot of time behind the iron-curtain as an 'oil R&D man' in the late-1950s to the early 1970s (he had at least two passports under the same name), during WW2 he was a saboteur/explosives expert (he immediately volunteered for the US Army after Pearl Harbor in January 1942, but they put him in the OSS instead because of his college 'oil-exploration' knowledge of explosives), in 1945 he was parachuted into Tibet where he and an OSS partner motorcycled their way through the "terrifying" mountains to the Chinese border where they were escorted to the Communist HQ in Central China, my dad became the chief foreign saboteur trainer of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and conducted missions in the field against the Japanese, then on the day AFTER Japan surrendered my dad was ordered to Shanghai Nationalist Chinese Army Intelligence (KMT) POW camp for Japanese SURRENDERED officers: to pose/disguised as an 'independent observer' to make sure the KMT-intelligence didn't torture and execute any Japanese officers, they tortured and executed every single officer, even some in front of my dad, my dad was shocked (he had never witnessed anything like it among the PLA forces), he complained to his OSS superiors, they told him to shut up and sign a fake document and that brutal practices amongst the KMT were the norm and that my dad was naive, my dad went over the heads of the OSS to the State Department who immediately informed my dad's OSS superior who told my dad to do as he's told and never go to the press or anyone-again ever because "accidents can happen to anyone anytime". Ironically the main reason I ended up living in the USA is because in 1977 Chevron Oil wanted someone with some experience or gravitas in China to help open up China to the west for oil business. My dad was the most junior and distrusted-by-Chevron part of the Chevron 14 man executive entourage, but as it turned out the Chinese officials only really wanted to interact with my dad (to the mega-consternation of all the more-senior or relevent Chevron execs), since he was considered a national hero in China (note: my dad was older or a generation older than all the other Chevron execs and junior-execs and he did not like or trust them and definitely vice-versa). The Minister of Oil (or energy?) in China who met him on the tarmac when the entourage arrived at Beijing Airport, just so happened to be a friend from the PLA HQ days of 1945, because they both shared an interest in oil exploration back then, so immediately as far as the Chinese were concerned, my dad was immediately made the go-to man of the whole endeavor (before they even got into the airport terminal) - in 1977, due to the closed nature of the previous Maoist/post-Maoist regime, most people in China had never even seen a white person in the flesh (or maybe never since they were a kid), so coupled with his probably-exaggerated status as a national hero and the Chinese desire to open up to western money, culture and goods, they took him to several cities closer to central-China and left the rest of the Chevron entourage back in Beijing, there were crowds of 1000s of Chinese citizens (I saw the photos) who were ordered but nevertheless enthusiastically attended mass welcoming rallies at train stations, halls podiums etc, Needless to say as soon as he got back to Chevron HQ San Francisco the company was so freaked out at what had just happened, they did every thing they possibly could to make sure he wasn't involved in any major Chevron activity as possible. My dad died 4 years later from cancer.
