Man, I love Julian like nobodies business but I just can't fully agree. When The Strokes are in the groove, none of their individual stuff can match up. Not that they aren't all fabulous musicians, but the 5 together create something totally unique-even when they obviously aren't all happy to be there.

Barbara Danley Well, it's funny you say that cos the two most critically acclaimed albums by The Strokes (ITI and ROF) were pretty much 100% conceived by Julian, with the others going along with his ideas. When FIOE came around, the guys wanted more of their ideas involved to the point where Julian couldn't really say no anymore (although FIOE is my personal favourite album).

+Seano299, I think at some point I've heard every member of the band say that they all have firm convictions about how the music should sound, and that recording sessions can get a little tense. That's why each of them have done solo projects, to do something that isn't The Strokes. However-Julian can write all the songs and music, but he has to rely on the rest of the guys to add their own unique touch to create that signature sound. For example, Nick's legendary solo in The Modern Age-that is all Valensi.

It was 2011, a week before 2012 when I was reading NME's "35 Great Alternative/Indie-Rock songs" list and stumbled across this one. I'd been a Strokes fan prior to that but had never heard of this song since it wasn't on his debut album. All I can say is that there's something magical and indescribable about listening to a song for the first time and falling in love with it after the few first plays. I still listen to this every year, usually starting round November, and it still sounds good but obviously not as good as the first time I discovered it. Christmases are not as magical as they were when we were eagerly waiting for them but this song always helps! Funny enough, it wasn't until a week ago that I discovered that this song was actually originally performed by Jimmy Kimmel and his colleagues and that Julian's version is actually a remake/extended version , wow!
