My theory is he is Crane, but he’s either lost or never had his license to practice. So he steals some credentials that being of Julian Rush. Also him having bliss even after leaving Arkham means one of two things, he has someone on the inside still supplying him, or he knows how to make it for himself. Also his name makes me think of adrenaline rush, adrenaline being the fight or flight chemical for our body’s.

I think Julian may have been intrigued initially by Sophia because he understood she was innocent. He got to experiment and document the process of driving someone healthy; insane. Who’s to say, Dr Ventris wasn’t working under Julian’s instructions, as he got closer to the patient by gaining her trust. As we see in the series, He has access to Sophia outside of Arkham to further his obsession. He may be sexually drawn to Sophia, but I think it’s more complicated than that. He’s always so calm, soft spoken and stoic. It’s like he’s repressed all his emotions, and he gets a literal Rush in watching Sophia overcome her fears and evolve into something else. He admires her mental discipline to overcome how broken she’s been made to be. For all we Know Ventris and Rush aren’t even real Arkham Doctors. They could just have been crooked sadist scientists under Falcones Payroll.

I actually really like this character as Scarecrow. So far, he's been shown to be kind of creepy, cold, and calculating. He's a psychologist, so he's meant to be very intelligent. He understands human psychology very well, which is what you need in a good scarecrow. The actor has a lot of screen presence, and I'm assuming he's starting off as a minor side character to build intrigue and mystery until it's revealed there's a lot more to him later on in the universe and he becomes a much more menacing character. I'm convinced he could make a great live action scarecrow, and I'm excited to see what they do with his character.

A real cool way they could make Julian Rush the scarecrow: After the events of the Penguin, Julian Rush starts delving deeper into fear Psychosis. He starts dark psychology experiments' on Arkham Patients under the alias Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow. It wont matter if the patients reveal Julian/Jonathan are the same person, nobody would believe them :)

There’s no way he would be openly flaunting the glove and mask. He’s also way too empathetic and dependent on Sophia. My theory is that Crane is already in Arkham, and Rush was his psychiatrist or perhaps former colleague whom accompanied him on his experiments with fear. Seeing as how he winced at how the inmates were being treated, he began to shy away from Crane’s more extreme forms of exposure therapy, and eventually causing him to say something. He keeps mementos of his old friend, in the form of his mask and glove.

I would much rather see him play mad Hatter as I feel the Way how he’s written here as a Simp kind of works with the character with Jarvis trying to find his Alice and the whole Sophia Gigante thing maybe they could set up something where she dies and he’s looking for another “Alice”. I personally hate the idea of him becoming scarecrow though, as I would imagine scarecrow to be very different from Julian since in the comics, his big thing is overcoming his own fear understanding it and conquering it I don’t think that fits Julian’s character at all

He was definitely exploiting Sofia’s trauma… not sure he’s really interested in her in that way. You’re telling me a trained psychologist and therapist didn’t realize he was baiting a vengeful woman into killing the family who betrayed her- who then also joins her to stoke her rage and paranoia even trying to suggest that she kill a child. He manipulated her utilizing her trauma.

I couldn't get a real good look at that glove but I got a good look at Sophia looking at the glove right before she goes in the drawer and looks at Julian's pills I never noticed it and you're saying that the mask is on the desk too? I took the full / empty desk to mean that Julian is going to fully push to become the head of Arkham as a means to take away Sophia’s biggest fear and to also truly transform Arkham into the living hell it’s becoming even further. With her to rule it from the inside and him to rule it as the headmaster and chief. Where they can breed all types of monsters for all types of purposes. Moving those things (whatever they are) indicates he has a plan to protect her and a plan to rule Arkham with her. They are still developing trust but that could be all she has in Arkham…. And it might just be what the Dr. has ordered all along.

I kinda just think it was changed during production and the inclusion of the mask and glove was an editing mistake. However, I have a theory. In the event it is him or something like that, my theory kinda fixes a few oddities about his part in the story. For some reason very few people outside of Sophia ever interact with him. He says he left Arkham to help her out but no one ever questioned how he was ever able to get his old job back so quickly after she torched everything and got sent back in. My theory is that the Dr Julian Rush inside Arkham is the real Julian Rush. But the one outside “helping” her do crime stuff is Johnathan Crane pretending to be him. Maybe it’s a stretch but it’s the only thing that makes the most sense as to why he was such an odd part of the show. For me anyway.

Clayface is my favorite Batman villain. Specially the Basil Karlo iteration of the character but I think they may want to keep it more grounded and use the original Clayface who didn’t have powers. It’d allow for a more grounded detective movie with some action. Warner Bros has also taken a hit financially as of late too so I don’t think they want to invest in the cgi needed to properly pull of Basil Karlo.

Yeah I don’t think we will get clayface in this universe and I think that’s why he was included in the caped crusader animated series this summer. He was really well done in that show, I thought.

I think they can do Clay Face in a believable way. He can be an actor who experiences a terrible accident that leaves his face disfigured. So he goes into hiding because he hates being an ugly man. He used to be a heartthrob, but now everyone is repulsed by his appearance. So he contacts an old friend who used to do makeup and make prosthetics for movies. He learns to disguise himself in different ways in order to be able to go out in public without scaring people. He eventually runs out of money and resorts to robbing people and using his disguises to commit crimes.

@ total disclaimer on my original comment. Because they always depict the Clayface with powers so I always mix him up with the second one which is the first Clayface I was introduced to. The first one is Basil Karlo and the one most of us know from the animated series is Matthew Hagen. So as it goes Basil Karlo used the identity of a villain in a horror movie he starred in to commit crimes but only appeared twice in publication during the silver age of comics. He was then replaced by Hagen that could turn into a claylike substance in the 1950s since Batman was fighting more science fiction villains during that time. He held the title of Clayface for the next 70 years and into present day. Sorry for the mix up from my original comment. If they were to do the original Clayface which is Basil Karlo then they would be good for the grounded detective movies the new Batman series seems to be going in.

Mat reeves stated he wanted to make a batman story that is as close to the real world as possible while still obviously having a batman. He explained he changed Oz's name to oz cobb for realism. He has the charaters in the movie agknowledge batman as a freak. He doesnt want villians like clayface because he fits a more james gun universe. People who complain that realistic batman is borring. Well Dc's plan is to have the batman universe co-exist along side the james gun universe until mat finishes the batman trillogy. So win win for everyone

Since theres signs of s2 coming ... i will like to drop a hypothesis of how it will end.... since gia become a threat in the comics ... its only right an proper for it to end with her killing oz or putting in a similar life support situation that oz did his mom... how we get here? Oz is being set up for council man / mayor ark... for oz to boost up the public persona or image he adopts her molds her, war her mind an she takes on many of his traits an it will feel like a reversal of oz an his mom... oz get more closer to her than he did wit vic in such a poetic way.. her snapping or something triggering she brings back the family name an launch the next mob war.

Nah. I think Dr. Julian Rush either actually IS Dr Hugo Strange or has something to do with Hugo Strange... That hypnosis-thing he does to gain information from people, is something Strange did in the comics... He works at Arkham and, eventhough he's not bald, has somewhat the same beard/mustache-style as Hugo Strange. And he shows no remorse for what he does to his patients.
