So weird.. I saw your Over The Garden Wall cover (on some other channel), and then immediately searched “phone microphone”, and this video was the second result. Idk why but a mic sound like this automatically makes some vocals sound twice as nostalgic. It also reminds me of Julian’s vocals on The Strokes’s “Is This It” album.

Your dt770 250ohm is quiet because it requires more power output from your device, generally speaking the more ohms a headphone requires the better, the 250ohm would be a better headphone than the 80ohm if you gave it more juice. Otherwise for most use cases 80ohm would be good enough. I have 300ohm to 600ohm vintage headphones so i have some experience.

Crazy there are so many options on lowfi mics now. I’m old, turned fuggin 40… but anyway coming up the Shure bullet was just about the only option that had some durability and substance along with it. In retrospect, it was a blessing I suppose. It forced me to try and fail with some (not so) innovative ideas most of the time. But when I did finally catch up and grab that lightbulb moment, it was all worth it. Two 57s, 25’ of a narrow hallway complete with public school tile & cinder block,a JVC floor model speaker from the early 90s, Yamaha Rev500 all getting laid down to 2” tape. Meh… still torn I guess. Click, buy, plug-in is easier. btw; I tripped out a little bit with the “800-588 2-300 Empiiirreeee TODAY!” Flashback moment to a glorious time in life where eating cereal and watching network television was the highlight of the day

@JulianaChahayed Жыл бұрын
in this video it’s the audio straight from the scarlet. in my other videos i add a bit of compression
@tjsaxon6530 Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the response! We just got ours and the sound is a lot more clean and clear than we expected, it doesn’t really have an old phone sound as much as just like a different eq than a normal mic. We are having to run it through a generation loss to get the old phone sound, does that sound right to you?
@JulianaChahayed Жыл бұрын
Did you get a trash talk audio mic? I've found that the mouthpeice mods are more clear sounding than the earpeice mods. If I were you I would hit up trash talk and exchange it for one where you can talk into the earpeice end @@tjsaxon6530try adding some compression and maybe throw this plugin over it called fresh air it may boost the highs just a tad bit to give it an extra breathyness
@tjsaxon6530 Жыл бұрын
Again, thanks so much, I’ve been in contact with them, I order one from them and got the mouth piece and xlr mod and then bought one from statik after receiving our trash talk one (we haven’t received it yet). Maybe I can record an audio sample to send to them and see if it sounds right to them. It may just be our voices or something. I really appreciate you responding!
@JulianaChahayed Жыл бұрын
that’s a great idea!! trash talk is very nice and I think if you send them a sample that doesn’t sound right to them they can help you out and get you something you like. Again the earpiece may be more lofi sounding, statizstramentz also puts a little knob on his for an extra breathy tone imo. lmk how it works out!

I love the telephone sound, but they are really overpriced ! Like 100 time overpriced. Better buy a cheap phone and modify it. Another nice option for this kind of sound is cheap microphones that were made for Super 8 mm cameras, they sounds nice for punk and blues, i exeperimented with that back in 2006. I also dismantled an old telephone and took the speaker to turn it into a microphone for a washtube bass.
