Any more videos coming up soon, Julian? I successfully spent one in Morrisons last week! Also have you ever noticed sharp edges on the £100 coin?
@julianchamberlain53992 жыл бұрын
All my Jerry cans are empty and my car has 3/4 of a tank. Ive not been doing many miles having had a month off over the holidays. So not long now. I'm out of £100 coins at the moment but getting a few more in soon so I'll check about edges. I think one side has slightly sharp edges.

Great video Richard I now understand why them coins are around to raise inflation because the royal mint make because they want to raise their reserves because as soon as they are put in there volt it becomes legal tender

Contracts can be made orally, in writing or by conduct. In retail transactions it’s usually by conduct (when they scan the item). In the majority of retail transactions the shop makes something called an invitation to treat and the customer makes the offer at the point of payment. The business can reject your method of payment. However, petrol stations and restaurants are (in my opinion) different. The contract formation is created at the fuel pump or in the case of a restaurant - when you order the food with the waiter. A contract exists as the offer/acceptance is complete and there’s consideration and an intention to create legal relations. The important point here is whether any of the terms have been agreed between the consumer and business. Terms can be incorporated by statute, reasonable notice (signs) or previous dealings. Therefore, if we take reasonable notice as an example. The business would usually have signs at the point of entry or when contracting - ‘we accept cash or cards’ or ‘we only accept cards’ or ‘we don’t accept £20, £100 coins’. On balance the term will have been incorporated into the contract. The legal tender argument is irrelevant in the context of paying a debt due to fuel in car etc That said, if the petrol station accepts cash or cards (Ii.e. They have signs stating they accept cash or cards or they’ve accepted cash in the past or even if they admit to you that they accept cash) what is the definition of cash? Arguably, this would be for a court to decide. I suspect the court will look at what is reasonable payment that reflects the norms of society today. I don’t think £20 or £50, £100 coins would fall into the scope of ‘cash’ even though they are theoretically legal tender.

1. Coin collectors will hate you for devaluing the coins by entering them into circulation, hence they will no longer be in mint condition. 2. Black belt barrister still says that the whole premise of these videos is wrong and that the petrol station would be within their rights to refuse this method of payment.
@julianchamberlain53992 жыл бұрын
1. Coin collectors will find that the remaining mint "uncirculated" coins will become rarer and thus more valuable. 2. BBB is disputing what the Bank of England says.. AKA talking out of his ass.. "'Legal tender' means that if a debtor pays in legal tender the exact amount they owe under the terms of a contract, they have a good defence in law if they are subsequently sued for non-payment of the debt."
@Scientist538 Жыл бұрын
as a collector this is a good thing, I'd assume the coins end up with the BoE eventually reducing the mintage of already low minted coins even further, it also helps keep the values at least at par as people who can find them will purchase them when they are below face if they can actually use them for the repayment of debts. Its also just a good thing to reintroduce hard money even if only used in rare situations.
@saltymemesmith2 жыл бұрын
I like Luke, sort of chap you'd want working above you. He saw the bait on the trap refused to take it. This has nothing to do with the customer or the retailer, its a Bank Of England issue, they're the ones who can resolve it.
