I consider it # 1 because it was college kids facing Russian pro's. It was indeed a Miracle On Ice. I was stationed in S. Korea when they won. I was (and still am) a hockey fan. a life-long Bruins fan from Hull, MA. Hockey was a way of life. I'm 70 years old now and still love hockey.

This is the defining moment of my sports fandom. I remember being at the grocery store with my mom and the butcher told us the result and my mom screamed. We had a watch party that night and when they won my Dad, who’s not a sports fan, was jumping up and down and yelling. And that’s why I always root for the underdog.

It is criminal that there are 3 patriots games above this, I understand the bias, and the excellence shown in those games, but this was a moment in history we will never see again. These players weren’t stars, that day they became national heroes. The cultural impact, not only in the US, but across the world that this game has had will endure far beyond our memory of even the greatest superbowls ever played. Not to downplay the patriots of that period, there were some amazing things done and those were incredible games, but 3 games above it?! Even accounting for recency bias, it blows me away that this is not a top 3 game.
@rickdonnelly39374 күн бұрын
For Americans, this has a legit case for greatest game ever. I may have a generational bias but, this was Rocky vs Drago before Rocky IV was a thing.

Jim’s car had crossed the median line on Route 6, but Craig said he tried to avoid the women's car which he said cut directly in front of him. Killed in the accident was Margaret Curry, 29, of New Bedford, and injured were Patricia Belleveau, 21, of Westport, and Ingrid Olsen, 30, of Westport. 4 years later he was arrested around 2:30 a.m on Route 495 in Middleboro after state police officers observed him swerving and speeding.

I remember watching the HBO documentary “do you believe in miracles“, and the thing that always struck me was the interview with the hostage from the American Embassy in Iran saying that, when they were educated about what had gone on in the world, during their year in captivity, that they cheered for the US hockey team the most. I really wonder what Jim, and the other 1980 team members think about what the American hostages in Iran said, about that game.

I was at an international Track Meet in San Diego that night... the announcer came over the loud speaker and said.. "Ladies and Gentlemen from Lake Placid... the Final Score in Men's Hockey game Soviet Union 3 (Pause) and the United States 4!) and the roof blew off the Arena with the roar of the crowd... even the athletes on the field all stopped and were celebrating no matter what country they were from... magical night.

i was 17 1980 Olympics. I was a sports junky. if i recall USA pulled out a tie against Sweden early in the round robin. i really was hoping the team could do something special. the US as a nation was down, hostages in Iran, the economy in the tank, etc. All you heard was how the Red Army was the greatest team in the World. And the US was bottom of the barrel usually, no wonder, it was amateurs vs pros. I’ll never forget Friday night, my best friend and I couldn’t find the game on TV. We snuck some beers chatting things up, and it zapped on the radio the US beat the Soviets in Olympic hockey. We went nuts. When the replay was played on ABC the next day it felt like it was live. In my lifetime, for me, it’s the No# 1 sports victory. i hated the commies. i played a lot achieved a lot, but when you guys finished off Finland and stood on that podium i can’t explain the emotions.

Man I can't believe I'm actually leaving a comment but I used to play a pickup game at that rink in Raynham, one bench all americans the other all russian and who did they have on their side Kovelenko, Frankenstein big, the talent was pretty evenly matched but if team Russia was lagging behind ol Kovelenko, even at 60 whatever he was could go end to end at will, he'd wind up and you'd just get out of the way. He wouldn't take any clappers though, nice guy, I took the puck from him once...

Imagine a place where you could just walk where ever you want except industry and critical infrastructure. Imagine a place that you did not have to spend your income on needs like your house. Imagine a place where you could spend that income on your wants and pursue what you want because your needs were always satisfied with governmental safety nets. Imagine a place where people go to prison and are treated like they can become a better version of themselves and not start at -50 when they get back out. Thats what we could have here in the US.
