Great guide. Just bought a batch 707 and the front derailer keeps giving me problems. Took it into the mechanic once seven days later I had to take it back because somehow when I pedal from a fresh start my foot just drops with zero tension momentarily then catches in gear again. It's so annoying

I've solved the problem of chain rubbing in the higher gears but now it's doing the opposite 😂 even with this guide I don't know what im doing, the cable no matter what I do is never loose.

Thanks bro! I bought my first actual mountain bike a couple of weeks ago and the front tube was worn and got a random hole. When changing it I noticed rubbing when in the highest cog. I naturally panicked and tried myself, failed, found your vid and now I have no more rubbing in either of the two cogs!

@@juliangoulding This is Tiagra 50/34 i put new big cog [50T] (the same as i have on bike before) and after that problem occur. I checked if everything was screwed together properly and it is. I've got new chain 10s KMC X, and new small wheels in the derailleur. First time i met something like this. Maybe the cable tension or H/L screw setting is incorrect? Arrghh it makes me so angry

I bought cycle last week, these gear cycles are not as simple as we think, adjusting them need more trial and corrections. And disc brakes they're another subject altogether. Now i need to work on wheel truing.

Should i upgrade from a sis rd-ty22 rear derailleur to a more modern one, and install an axle derailleur hanger adapter as a sacrificial element? Or is all of this dumb?

Don't know. There's definitely a style factor to that older derailleur. Depends what you want to achieve. Just replacing that derailleur to a 7 speed modern one what make that much difference. If you do I wouldn't worry about a axle hanger. Otherwise if you want better shifting overall upgrading everything to a 1x10 derore drivetrain would be an epic.

@@juliangoulding Nah it's going to stay 3x7 or 3x8 at most. i mean i could abuse a 9x derailleur as a 7x one it should do fine, just... who knows whether there's a point to that :D

@@SianaGearz I would first try pulling that derailleur off, giving one hell of a deep clean, greasing and lubing everything up and put it back on. If the shifting is still suffering then maybe go to a modern on with a modern shifter (they are pretty cheap) don't stress about the axel hanger.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKapnp58aquiers This is a video from "RJ the bike guy". Years ago I've learned to align and adjust the front derailleur from his video and no problems with a 3X since then. Once you learn the correct procedure it's so easy. I've learned from experience that some indexed front shifters have different pull ratios, talking about Shimano stuff and not all front derailleurs work with all chainring sizes. It's trial and error if you mix stuff. If you had enough of adjusting just throw a friction shifter for the FD.
