Great reaction! I'm from Brazil and part of this army... I think that 365 days from today you'll already have seen all Floor"s beste zangers performances (emotions and technique in tons), most of wacken songs (I love storytime, song of my self, romanticide and all the others...), Wembley's "the poet and the pendulum" and Tampere's "The greatest show on earth" (it's like a trilogy of epic songs with ghost love score), epica's sancta terra ft. floor (You'll meet simone simons, an angel voice bff of floor, orchestra and chorus on stage too), all songs of new album "human: nature", especially how's the heart acoustic on planet rock (simply impossible to stop listening over and over again) and Shoemaker (Masterpiece, and Floor goes full opera here). Believe me, I already saw this before... It's inevitable... Take time to do a little research on each song, it adds so much to the experience because all of them have layers upon layers of meaning... The poet and the pendulum and the greatest show on earth explanations are mandatory...

Hello @ Julia Nilon! Nightwish Army incoming here, your reaction just appeared on our radar.. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band performing at Wacken Open Air 2013 in front of a 82k+ audience. It was a pleasure for me to see your reaction (including body language..). You understand it in full, being trained vocally yourself. Now I smile, for no apparent reason.. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is an honor for me to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan: " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Hope you'll continue this journey with us, so I'll drop here a list of songs with the current lineup of the band you may like: "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqfOiqqFf7-ChLc "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4nMZaFuma-WfJo "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooLYZoSgnsl7jck "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKvCaIJ5eLafjtU "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWmoZH9tnMx_g68 "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmbImqeaYqp0bKs "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZ_UlnxuZZyNors "Sleeping Sun"live at Tampere 2015 (ballad) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKTSpZ-wp56qhNk "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJmopnSGjtKSi8k "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXKXZaeglrVopJI "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGK4m5qlr8p8hrM "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmOZo5Ksdr6EZrM "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3-VZGyGl9aVoNE "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqfWl6p3hceKjsU And if you want to hear Floor growling :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Wembley 2015 kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKqvpIhthphmac0 Last but not the least - they just released their 9th studio album on April 10th named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg You can also react to Floor Jansen's performances in Beste Zangers 2019 (TV show from Netherlands), here is a playlist made by Floor herself (start listen it in reverse order..): kzbin.info/aero/PL8iSYWeQhlimgUnWw1FDdiJN0msPzqpLo Thank you! Nightwish Army is incoming!) Julia, Thank you for your reaction and analysis! And welcome to the world of Symphonic Metal! You are the first person in the entire world who said Floor's second name correctly :D. She is Dutch. Yes, Floor has classical background, rock academy behind, and used to be a vocal coach for a number of years. Floor is the most versatile and powerful female singer today and can sing anything from more pop-y style, classic opera, to metal screams and growls. Floor is a queen of singing emotions. Floor joined Nightwish in the middle of their Imaginaerum world tour in late 2012 (which includes this show from August 2013). Previous singer, Anette Olzon (she's currently in Dark Element) left the band while they were touring, and there was no certainty what to do with all the upcoming shows. They called Floor (her previous band did tour with NW in the past, and they knew each other). Floor flew immediately to help them out and temporarily replace Anette for the rest of the world tour. She arrived two days before the next show, and she had only 48 hours to learn the entire setlist. And she did. There is official documentary about all that -- "PLEASE LEARN THE SETLIST IN 48 HOURS" ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJmoqZ6jjLCAe7c ) For Floor it was first really big gig with Nightwish, 82K people, at the time she was only for a few months with the band. After the world tour (in October 2013), they made Floor their official member. This song was performed at the end of 90min show, at the 1hr 10min mark. Nightwish formed in '96 in Finland, initially with Tarja (Tar-ya) Turunen as a vocalist. She left the band in 2005, and Anette Olzon stepped in, until 2012. The bassist with a cool beard is Marco, and he sings some parts too. He has his own solo project outside the Nightwish. The mastermind behind 99% of lyrics and music is a keyboardist Tuomas. Guitarist name is Emppu, and the drummer in this show is Jukka (Yukka), but later he was replaced by Kai Hahto because of health issues. Flutes/uilleann pipes/guitar/vocals - Troy, he did not perform in this song. Nightwish is better live, always, so if live performance is available, go for it. In their performances, they often using recorded backtrack of a classical orchestra for their songs. They have very diverse music, from more light songs to epic scores like this, and to really heavy metal stuff. For the next step, I can suggest listening to: -- Storytime from the same Wacken 2013 live ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXLapa2fbLZmeM0 ) -- for move heavy: Ghost River, Song Of Myself, both from Wacken 2013 also ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXLapa2fbLZmeM0 ) ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXLapa2fbLZmeM0 ) If you want to dive in a little bit more into Floor's vocal versatility, I recommend checking out these: -- Acoustic ("stripped down" vocals): How's The Heart ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4rXnIOme76thdE ) -- Classic opera: Puccini: O mio babbino caro ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZXCopaYrJiZa7M ) -- Classic duet: Phantom Of The Opera ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp2mhJagq6mCgK8 ) -- Soft pop: Shallow ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2eboZhqlsRssM0 ) -- Touching, emotional: De Beelden Blijven (A Song for War Child) ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2eQZ4GMqMeabLc ) -- Growling: In Nightwish ( Yours Is An Empty Hope kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKqvpIhthphmac0 ), in ReVamp ( Wild Card kzbin.info/www/bejne/faG9fnl3gb6YfcUm51s ) -- Latin: Qué Se Siente ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/epe8ln-LpNaqZqc ) All those are live of course. Epic is the right word here. This is as close to total epicness we can get. There's prerecorded symphony orchestra's backing track and the drummer Jukka Nevalainen is responsible of all the timings. I think that's why Floor honored him (and all the other band members who were situated right from her). Floor's husband Hannes van Dahl is a very respected drummer for a Swedish metal band "Sabaton" so she sure knows that the a good drummer is rock singers best friend 😉😄. Excellent analysis. Hey Julia, I probably watched thousands of reactions to this masterpiece from Nightwish with the unmatched Floor Jansen but your reaction is special. First of all your explanations in text form during the song are really smart, no interruption to the song and you also can focus on whats going on. Great information on the vocal techniques and I love that you also feel the song and the versatility of Floor. In addition I think you are the first reactor that mentioned the hand Floor is giving to the drummer Jukka at the end of the song. For me this is really showing the true character of Floor which makes me love her even more. After 13 songs in this concert in front of 82K people where she killed every single song and after this vocal masterpiece in Ghost Love Score the first thing she does is giving a hand to the band and the drummer Jukka. Remarkable. ❤🤘👍👍 If you want to hear more about Nightwish than try 'Everdream' or 'Storytime' from the same live concert at Wacken 2013. You are usually my first reactor on songs, and I return from time to time to watch again. Of the multitude I've watched on this song alone, you are the only one to point out my favorite moment ... her, exactly on beat, reaching out to the drummer at the end. There is a beautiful humility in that gesture and after watching several interviews with Floor, it confirms that statement. Being an old drummer, very old drummer, there is absolutely nothing that gives a greater rush or provides such pleasure as creating music with people you care about. She is every bit of that ... they have become a family and they are playful and loving. The fact that you noticed and commented on that really sets you apart and my respect for how you do what you do is enormous. Love you, Julia! Keep doing what you do best!
