Can we just appreciate the Mad Genius that is Tuomas Holopainen? Talents like him are said to be born once a century. In ancient times, he may have become a songwriter, componist or musician we remember fondly even today. Let us make sure that happens.

well guys... I did it! I completed the Trinity :) yayyy! the more I thought about this piece post edit the more things I wanted to comment on so I'll add a couple more things below. the lyrical content for this song was incredible but simultaneously educational as heck.... I found myself googling some of the phenomena/things they mentioned because not only did the song make me curious/interested it also made me care about how lucky we are to exist and be here as we are. the music itself really captured that as incredible as evolution is it's has been all about survival and sometimes survival, growth or extreme change isn't beautiful OR comfortable. let me know your thoughts on the vocal breakdown. a comment was left recently that made me consider the accessibility of the terminology I use so let me know if you'd like a break down minus any of the technical jargon. overall... wow... holy heck .... yes. incredible. hope you liked it!

"How does one even emotionally recover from a Nightwish concert?" ......... You can't. I was privileged enough to play the drums for a band that opened for them in Auckland, New Zealand in 2013. To this day the experience is as fresh as it was back then. I was able to recommend a few local brews to Emppu and Marco after their soundcheck and my wife had the task of guarding the toilet door for Floor as the lock was broken (Floor was eternally grateful for that). The thing made me laugh was with in about two minutes of them finishing their set Floor had traded her knee high boots for jandles. It was a hot night after all. We watched the set the played from dam as near side of stage. It was amazing. I hope to see them again back here in New Zealand.

Nobody puts on a spectacle quite like Nightwish! They are bar far better then any band at telling a story through their music and only Nightwish can make a long song end too soon. You just want their music to never end! This is such an amazing example of just how amazing this band is and why they are in my top 2 bands all time! I was hooked the first time I heard them over 20 years ago and they have never failed to impress me, in fact they have actually gotten better with every passing year! That said, you are exquisite to experience. Zero jealousy which displays your self assurance and makes the compassion that you display actually worth witnessing and probably genuine. An absolutely lovely compassionate countenance coupled with obvious expertise. You do not need to be emotionally broken by a performance to have genuine pleasure light up across your face and offer us worthwhile insight as to the impressive gymnastics and athletics provided here. You are well worth the time and attention, so please never feel too long winded as you are an equal pleasure to experience alongside this band of humans from another planet 😁. The musical reference part starts with African tribal drumming (right stereo track), continuing with American native singing/barking (left stereo track), then a medieval flat vocal hymn while flute doing “Dies Irae”, then comes unknown tunes of harpsichord from Renaissance era, then Petzold’s (former credited to Bach) "Minuet” from Baroque era played with fortepiano, then female vocals singing some classical song (pa-da-da-da-da...), then some claim to come American banjo music, then that guitar riff from "Enter Sandman", and finally the bassline that some say it's from "I Wish I Had An Angel" or "Symphony of Destruction".

The references start with the tribal drums. The fluets before the minuet are reference to Dies Irae, Day of Wrath - A Chant from the Traditional Latin Requiem Mass. Hey Julia, many thanks for this rich and insightful reaction. This hasn't been done on this level so far. You really set a new bar for quality vocal reactions. I can only hope you come back to Nightwish and their members again. There is still more to discover from the band itself and their solo projects. If you don't mind, a nice thing to do is a comparison (not in the sense of a competition) of "Phantom of the Opera" Floor performed together with Henk Port on Beste Zangers and the "original" Nightwish version with Tarja and Marco doing it. Personally I love both interpretations for different reasons and would be excited to hearing your thoughts on it. GreeZ from Germany

You've mentioned Floor's incredible endurance. Just to make it more absurd, this was the last song of a 2-hour performance. The animal-like growls is mostly Marco, but Floor and Troy usually add backing vocals too :) And yeah it was cool to see you catch the little Bach tribute! But not just that - Tuomas uses that whole instrumental section (mins 14 to 15 approx) to tell the story of music evolution: hidden behind the keyboard melody and the riffs, you can hear short fragments of different types of music throughout History: from tribal instruments to Gregorian to medieval to Bach to Metallica and lastly to electronic beats, all that in under a minute, and without losing the conducting melody. If that's not called art, I don't know what is :D PS: I stayed till the very end :D

I love watching reaction videos because I ttuly enjoy seeing people fall in love with the music I love so much, but I hold a special appreciation for when experts (musicians, teachers, singers/vocal coaches, etc) not only react but lend their expertise to it. I'm a drummer of over 30 years, I'm not a singer and I never will be, but I love listening and hearing about the techniques used by these vocalists. It's fascinating. I have to say, your videos have been some of my absolute favorites because you combine your emotional responses with true knowledge and expert articulation. Some go so overboard with the "OMG THE FEELS" or just ramble buzzwords without actually analyzing or explaining anything. You portray very real reactions with actual analysis and meaningful commentary, and I commend you for it. No sensationalism, no overdone craziness or false pretentiousness, just pure you and your knowledge. Keep it up, I love what you put out there. Fantastic work. 🤘

"We were here" is also there as a chorus in Alpenglow. That was half an hour earlier, but it still will help the audience picking up this chorus faster, even the ones that did not hear either song before the concert. Sometimes Tuomas is a sneaky bastard, in a good way. I don't think I have ever seen anybody else using this trick to engage the audience. And having your audience chanting "we were here" to you? Sneaky again. That will make them feeling even more satisfied that were actually there. I am sure Tuomas never thought about these psychological tricks when writing this piece. (not)

Hi Julia. The bag thing is called uilleann pipes. It is the Irish version of the bagpipes. A little bellows under the elbow (uilleann is the Irish word for elbow) brings the air into the bag. It is an instrument that has been developed to be played sitting down, held on the lap and can be played indoors because the volume is way more modest than for instance the Scottisch pipes that are usually played outdoors. Great review btw. It is so much fun and even a bit emotional watching you watching and listening to Nightwish.

Floor can reach even higher that G5. For that, you need to react to "The Phantom of the Opera" from Beste Zangers with Henk Poort. Floor ends The Phantom of the Opera in D6 but that is sung in a head voice so you can't really compare the two as she is belting high here which is way more difficult (D6 high is pretty standard for lyric sopranos in head voice). However Floor can actually belt higher than G5, her belt at the end of GLS is G#5 but Greatest Show on Earth is more taxing on stamina.
