In my opinion, Bryan went downhill when he started to dress and act like the bands he interviewed. It was always so funny/interesting to see this nerdy looking kid that looks who would listen to like pop or 60s jazz and would be more interested in dungeon and dragons than actual metalcore bands. Some people may of not liked the goofy questions but I personally did. 99% of interviews with bands nowadays ask the same shit “Who inspired you? Does this new album have a specific meaning? “ ya know basic shit. It was actually humbling to see these bands answer their life goals outside of music or if they could speak any different languages or just all around goofy ass questions. I wish Bryan just stayed to his roots. I think he sold out. Once he saw the “emo/scene” culture was booming. He saw a chance to make some money. Overall, just went to hell

At the time I didn't agree with Never Shout Never getting on him for those questions, but later on I fully understood it. He started sucking as an inrerviewer too..the same teenage kind of questions he'd ask every interview. Bryan interviewing all of those bands was a dream come true and he left it all behind to hang out with younger emos and do challenge videos with them. Leaving interviewing behind because it was apparently too much work. Imagine if he kept up with it how much farther he would've gotten if he matured up his questions and didn't quit. He got what came to him in the end.

@hannahortiz38324 жыл бұрын
I agree to some aspect but I don't see why a band would get so pissed about a video like that since the context was about him possibly changing there band name and to act so immature and douche to someone who took time out of there day was so uncalled for and not "professional" I still don't agree with how they acted at all since they wanted to be treated like actually respected musicians but then act like spoiled brats.

The previous members of the MDE channel made a new collab channel called Our World Away which seems to be dead at this point. After that the previous members have just moved on with their careers. Seeing this video reminded how much time has really flied since then. Whatever happened to Bryan Stars at this point seems to peek nobody's interest but at the same, his died out fame is well deserved.

Bryan's an idiot who let fame go to his head but he was a good business man tbh 'cause it's clear he was one of the only things keeping alot of these kids' careers afloat during a time when emo/scene culture should've been totally dead and gone.

What's funny is after years and years of not keeping up with Bryan, i suddenly remembered his band interview videos and thought, "i wonder what he's doing now?". I hadn't watched anything of his since high school (around 2012) so you can imagine how absolutely shocked i was when i looked him up and saw he was trying to do the whole "scene" thing in 2016. I could not believe it. I found out around the time all of the MDE drama started coming out and i was in such disbelief. I watched a few videos to acquaint myself and it was just so odd. It didn't feel right. Bryan just looked so weird and out of place with these kids. When did he get that mop on his head? Why was this weird, tall, lanky man hanging out with these kids? It reminds me of Michael Jackson and how he never got to truly be a child, so when he grew up, he was a huge kid. Except that in this case, Bryan never got to be a popular scene kid, so he used the MDE kids so he could live vicariously through them. So weird. Would never have thought he would be such a huge piece of shit.

Great video! As a journalist myself, I loved Bryan's fun interview style and admired his success--I was so sorry to witness his treatment at the hands of Never Shout Never and wrote him a heartfelt message of encouragement from one interviewer to another. I never got a response, and I wondered if he had missed the message or was too busy to answer, or if--as an adult reporter--I maybe was outside of his target demographic so he didn't pay me any mind. I shrugged and continued enjoying his videos--but then I started to hear about him covering up for and continuing to spotlight the likes of Austin Jones and Dahvie Vanity, and about his treatment of the MDE kids. I withdrew my support and stopped watching. On the positive side, Cozy, you yourself are well-spoken and have great presentation skills. Subscribed!

hey, thank you for watching and thanks for the kind words!! you're right, it was super disheartening watching the shady sides of where his career ended up. i didn't even mention the austin jones or dahvie vanity stuff in the video because that stuff is super dark and skeevy and could be a video all in itself. but it's wild considering how seemingly innocent and genuine Bryan was at first, before all the fame. it's a crazy story! once again thanks for watching!! :)

Thanks for making this. I had totally forgotten about Bryan stars until last night when I listened to a bunch of songs from my emo phase. I used to watch his interviews and I remember all the drama from the nevershoutnever interview. I decided to look him up and saw that he basically disappeared in 2017. I never watched Bryan in my digital escape because I agree with you about challenge videos. Looking back at the whole mde situation, Bryan was kinda creepy and out of place. He was like 26 and trying to look emo but he never pulled of the look because of his curly hair.

Never had a prior scene phase and even went to college, but decides to go into a scene phase at the age of 26. That definitely sets off alarms. What does a 26 year old have in common with teenagers within the middle and high school portions of their life going through an awkward phase? I had a scene phase, but I was 13 years old when it happened and i'm currently 26. The scene and emo phases that people went through was like a visual representation of what adolescence is like. Granted, yes, some bands maintain the image because its the identity of their band and image and they started off that way, but it's one thing to maintain an image that you've had from the beginning for the sake of your career and identity vs adopting one out of nowhere for the sake of a YT channel(Bryan Stars over here) or as an attempt to relate to impressionable teens(IE: Dahvie Vanity). MDE was incredibly cringey. The point is, that "Scene Phase" seemed disingenuous and as if there was an ulterior motive to it. It's hard to describe as it only makes sense once you hit adulthood, but as an adult, you have a responsibility to have a certain level of separation between you and kids or teens. It's not a matter of superior versus inferior, it's a matter of protection and having the best interest for both sides. Theres simply put no excuse for taking advantage of minors.

Wow. This was the first time I saw the clip from the NSN interview with adult eyes and the absolute rudeness... But also, this is a reason why managers should screen the questions prior to the interview so everybody is on the same page.
@amandacaito94224 жыл бұрын
I agree that it was handled poorly and was very confrontational. At the time as a teen I was devastated to see one of my favorite artists behave so rudely, however, as an adult now I can see where the frustration would be justified. I’m passionate about a few things, one being bodybuilding, so if someone was interviewing me while I’m at the gym (bc they were in the studio) and asking me over sexualized and silly questions I’d get upset for having my time wasted. Like Chris was a dick but Bryan wasn’t exactly blameless either. As an adult now I see those questions as really creepy and uncomfortable, I’d have a hard time answering but that’s just me.

Tbh I think the whole situation with Bryan Stars was really sad. I remembered when he was a simple guy who was passionate about music and did quirky interviews. I felt like he had a lot of potential as a KZbinr with those interviews and journalism that he did, but when he started to put on the whole emo/scene front and created My Digital Escape, I felt like he threw his potential away. Which I think was the sad part about that whole situation. And that was when I unsubbed because his videos weren't genuine after that. But yeah I think it'll be pretty interesting to see what he's doing now. I hope that he had a revelation of the error of his ways after MDE's fall and changed for the better.
