I think Julie's first big role that I saw was opposite Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore. But here she mentions "Ed" which was one of my favorites in the 2000s. She's a really talented actress. I wasn't surprised when Modern Family became such a success.

Omg I'm so excited to hear this!! I love Julie Bowen!!! Edit: This was a lovely episode. Julie Bowen is such a funny person and her story with Anxiety and medication really makes me want to learn more and start helping myself through certain means. (Meditation, medicine or Therapy) Her lens while speaking and body language was such fun to watch and listen to. I felt wayyyy better about myself!!! I will be checking her podcast out too!!!

Birth order, so true. But, in my family, the middle girl of three, ended up a malignant narcissist. Upon the deaths of each of our parents (long divorced,) she aimed her hatred at me, the oldest-over-achieving- people-pleasing-duty-bound one. The dysfunction of our early years became a game of survival as adults. I am now the outcast, an orphan in every way because I chose to say "no" to her. Mental health is such a complex issue. Therapy, medication, 12-step programs have allowed me to heal and love everyone without becoming entangled in their trauma and chaos. This I know: you cannot heal yourself, because that makes the doctor the patient at the same time.

Same experience, Julie. Death by a thousand paper cuts. I was always looking for the repressed awful memory to explain things, but never found it. A great book that explains the silent neglect in family dynamics, is an old classic by John Bradshaw: On The Family. That was super eye-opening for me. Thanks for sharing I've had that thought often over the years and it's nice to know I'm not alone. Also another factor, which is kind of a new revelation, is the HSP (highly sensitive person) aspect. There are cutting edge books out there on that topic. Which I relate too. Goes to Mayim's point on how we all process life differently. Thanks gals.

I love when you do OTS shots with your guests because it shows connecting, but I am a video nerd and the refresh of that TV you show has got to be a 60hz and so hard to look at. Please get an OLED or something not with an LCD backlight that does a full-panel refresh to minimize that cycling line. Also I get to watch BBT whenever because I'm a WB video tech and that shot of you and Jim standing at the counter with Simon and Kunal wondering "what have we done" is just ingrained in my mind as SO funny. Thank you for your show and your approaches to therapy/connections help me a bundle during this covid time. I also learned a lot from Howie Mandel's episode.

I LOVE how JB describes that she took measures to inform herself about taking an Rx during pregnancy and she took those measures in a very intelligent way. It is meaningful - and we're all grateful that she shares this - that she met with ten doctors, that each one was Not "woo woo" type of physician, and she made a decision best for herself from there:)

Love the perspective Jonathan imparted around 51 mins, and Julie and Mayim’s contribution around this. I’d love to read the ‘research and thinking’ he talks about more, does he have links to that information. I’ve been listening to ‘The Child Whisperer by Carol Tuttle and it talks about the natural tendencies that different types of people are born with, and it’s these natural tendencies that can be shut down by this misalignment. Julie references the differences that her children have and how she parents them intuitively differently, due to the natural tendencies they present to her, she’s doing a great job. 👌🏻 Worth a listen or read even if you are an intuitive parent, it’s very validating to see those tendencies in your children when you’ve parented them this way, it also helps to understand differences of everyone around you. 💕

While I love these shows and respect Mayim's opinions, you have to remember that a lot of people have atypical reactions to pharmaceuticals. I cannot take any type of anti depressants because they make me suicidal. I have dangerous reactions to many meds and vaccines that most people have no reactions to. So you just can't recommend that everyone get on meds. Marijuana helps me with stress more than anything else, I also practice EMDR with a very good psychiatrist!

Really enjoyed this conversation, loved the open discussion about medication and totally relate to that feeling of being worried other people could read your mind. Would love for you to interview Debby Ryan, she seems so curious and eager to learn from others and is really focussed on mental health and having conversations with people about those things.

What you do is hugely valuable. Thank you. To give actors another medium and allow them to be real may be the best thing ever. You are the Sean Evans of "Hot Brains". Total sdelight; However they first wrote Amy on BB.... did not matter. From what I see you took her on and made her real. You SLAYED it. Thank you. For the OG nerds, I wonder if anyone will relate to this...You know that saying "they peaked in high school"? My bullies peaked in high school. If you met them now, you might assume they were nerds. On the contrary, I am the legit nerd who peaked later in life. I've felt the pain of not fitting in. Inside, I still see myself as the dorky kid and I'm taken aback when someone compliments me. I get it, it's annoying when people jump on the nerd train just to seem interesting or intelligent. But appearance is a poor metric when judging nerd status. Like Mayim said, it only took one conversation to get past that with Julie.
@TammyS-wt3qp
@TammyS-wt3qp 2 жыл бұрын
I completely relate to this! And yes, I see people who really aren't nerds jumping on the nerd culture bandwagon to seem cool. But you called it, appearances don't determine being a nerd. And just because someone isn't a typical nerd, doesn't mean they don't have intelligence either.

It'll never cease to amaze me that people think "Modern Family" is her best work. If you haven't seen her in that "little show" called "Ed", do yourself a favor and check it out. If, after that, you don't think it is every bit as charming and addictive as, I don't know, "Northern Exposure", I'll give you back the money you paid for the... streaming service? DVDs? Oh, right, it has NEVER ben released ANYWHERE, so you cannot possibly know how amazingly wonderful Ed Stevens, Carol Vessey and everyone else were. Such a shame.
