Understanding Wine Styles? | Chardonnay vs Sauvignon Blanc

Older we get, the more we want our wines to be smoother. We aren't 18 yos looking for a woo ha buzz as much in our 50s. Sipping thru an NZ Sauvignon Blanc called Apouri. Good enough, a wee bit rough on the scent and taste. Around that price range, i'd suggest a Chilean Sauvignon called Mariana Bay, or a French Chardonnay called Le Manoir Du Baron. I prefer white, never tasted rose's, and am suspiscious of reds , i find them too rich on me.
