You can also take yarn and a wire pet brush (or two) and brush the yarn to basically turn it back into wool roving! I wish I had known that almost a decade ago when I wanted to start this hobby

Great review of the wool. I've also had good experiences with this type of kit. Good value for the money in my opinion. The grays would make a lovely elephant, bunny or wolf family!

i bought this sort of kit 4 years ago when i started, along with some other more expensive bits from my local fibre store and it’s still going strong! i used up the neutrals quick as a beginner, but i still have loads of neons. i definitely see myself ordering another bag when this one runs out as it’s so nice to have random colours when you need it here and there.

I purchased a pound of black merino roving from Amazon. It’s beautiful and easy to work with. I am making a long haired black cat and this is the best I’ve found yet. A previous purchase from a well known seller was full of dirty bits and straw. Just terrible.

I purchased a starter kit and after doing more research I thought I might have wasted my money on it a bit...but in the end I think the wool alone was worth it. I ended up buying lots of new carded wool but it's awesome to have all the colors for little things here and there. very nice not to be restricted there! and I also think it felts fine. thank you for your content! Really helps me a lot!

When I first decided I was going to try felting out to see if I like it I got something similar to this with lots of 3 gram bags While I know now that the wool isn't as good as the stuff I can get from a dedicated seller like Heidi feathers it was enough for me to realize I really felting without having too big a hit to my wallet it's also handy when I just need a small amount of a colour that I would otherwise have to mix myself... I often can pull it from that pack or I can use the wool as core wool. anyways I know this video is from a year ago but still great job!

Aw thanks for this, yes I find that if there's an unusual colour I need a small amount of I can usually find it in this pack, it's very handy to have. As you say even if the wool isn't as good a quality as other suppliers. Many thanks for this and thanks for watching.

Very helpful video. As someone just considering felting, the supply list adds up quickly so it’s nice to know I could buy cheaper wool to begin with until I’m more proficient.

Thank you for your comments, glad you found this helpful. I'm just putting together a video reviewing two beginner kits which you might also find interesting. It's hard to know what to buy at first, but my advice would be to buy decent needles from a specialist supplier if you can. Thanks for watching.

I bought some cheap wool to practice wrapping it around pipe cleaners. The pipe cleaners I purchased were from Heidifeathers and they could bend over if you blew on them so I purchased the very narrow ones for actual pipe cleaning and the wire in them is fabulous. I find Heidifeathers wool extremely overpriced like most things on her site so I get my wool now from World of Wool.

Many thanks for this, I haven't tried pipe cleaners from Heidifeathers, but I bought some from Amazon and found them very flimsy also, good to know there are some more firm ones out there though. Thanks for the wool information, I've heard good things about world of wool, will definitely try them next 👍🙂

Hi. Use the greys for blending. Also roving is not good for core wool, I use only batting for this, works up faster. Similarly I find roving only useful for long fur, again batting is better for shaping and detail.

Hi there, I'll have to try using greys for blending sounds like a good idea ☺️ yes I agree roving can be hard work as a core wool, batting or carded wool is easier, but I also found that it can depend on what needles you use. In my video on when to stop stabbing I tested different wool with different needles, counting how many times I stab! I was surprised be the results, if you're interested you can watch that video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYOQg5-Bm9GBatk thanks for watching

I have approached felting from the perspective of an ex. Hand spinner. It is possible to hand card roving into batts and get rid of the parallel fibres, which is what I do, but it is a bit of a pain, and you a right roving does have its place. I will certainly check out your link. I enjoyed this video I had wondered about amazons wool packs, but thought the amounts would be too small to be useful for anything but blending. I am one of your subscribers now so I will be following you with interest.

This was helpful, thanks. Wish you had done a burn test, as i would like to know how much of it is real wool, and how much is plastic/rayon. Btw- would you be related to John Shuttleworth, by any chance?

Many thanks, glad you found it helpful, I've just read about the burn test, I'm not sure how conclusive it would be though 🤔 but interesting to know about for the future. But I think if you have a strong wish to only use wool then the only way of making sure you're buying just wool would be to buy from a reputable local supplier of needle felting supplies. No I'm not related to anyone called John Shuttleworth 😊 thanks for watching
