Julio Cesar Chavez - Is a Mexican former professional boxer who competed from 1980 to 2005. He is considered by acclamation as the greatest Mexican boxer of all time, and one of the greatest boxers of all time. Chávez is a six-time world champion in three weight divisions, and for several years was considered the best active boxer in the world, pound for pound.

I think the problem that many casuals and new comers to boxing have in defining defense is that they are used to seeing slips and outside movement (going into "back foot" defense). They have a tough time identifying weaves, rolls, parries, blocks, and catches - where the punch doesn't land or doesn't land clean. As you said, many of the great historical pressure (swarming / inside) fighter HAD to have great "offensive defense"...otherwise they wouldn't be able to last near as long on just good chins and punch resistance.

Listen kids, thats is what you call working on your fundamentals. All that was just simple head movement combined with awareness and focus. The man would plant his feet down in front of you. He wasnt backing up, using his foot work, leaning back. Nothing. He was looking at you face to face and watching all you punches come.

And even if you landed a punch he would still suck it up as he had an amazing chin. One of the most complete fighters I've seen, it's a shame he doesn't get that much recognition in the US just for not being American. But in Mexico he is a hero

One of the most complete fighters of all time. He had it all. Abililty to cut the ring and slip punches while having huge power in both hands. He could hit you with short punches that rocked you. And that legendary chin. Prime chavez was unbeatable at 135 and 140. I don't even think Duran or Pacquiao would be able to keep him from applying that pressure. Amazing fighter.

Yes! Finally a video pointing out what I've always argued my friends about haha. Although Chavez wasn't really known for this, so unless you're a boxing head, you're not really seeing this! Chavez slipping punches with SLIGHT movements that either made the opponent miss completely or they'd graze his face...case in point, even though he was losing by points against Taylor, his face was fresh and clean, and Taylor's looked like a five trains hit him at full speed!

my man ive seen you in other Julio Cesar Videos, where are you from? im honored as a mexican that you like our boxing style this warriors surrender their bodies and souls for the boxing fans all over the world not just for mexicans but Julio is our best champion, he wasnt the strongest or the fastest yet he achived a record of 89-0, 80 KOs and 14 years undefeated, the longest amount of time for someone to be unbeaten in boxing, and the most important thing for a boxer besides getting all the belts in the cathegory is the title defences and Julio also holds the record of most title defences with 29, 27 of those were great champions and knocking out 24 of them. and what i love the most is that he looks like an ordinary man, and as he is not the fastest or the strongest one wouldnt believe the champion he is, but its all about the technique, technique beats strenght and speed! thats why i think he is a hero for the common people, you dont need to be a monster to be a champion, just good technique, heart and determination!

Chavez held his hands high and at an wide angle relative to his head. He would also tuck in his chin more so than other fighters. This is what made his defence so exceptional is how little he would move to make his opponent glance or out right miss. Conserving plenty of energy to counter punch or launch an assault of his own. Looking back Chavez best fights were against overconfident head hunters.

Si es verdad, pero Chavez tenía una cintura de goma, un excelente bending. Locche era otra cosa, reflejos excelentes, movimientos de cabeza de apenas 1cm y ya no lo tocaban, el mejor boxeador defensivo, pero Chavez también era buenísimo. Chavez succesfully defended his titles 27 times. He fought in 37 world championship contests. This means he faced the best fighters and his defense was needed. His chin was granite and he was a steamroller but he also had a world class defense. He used it while handing out savage beatings. He had 86 knockouts. Chavez has about 36 more knockouts than Floyd has fights.
