The game changing shape to a video game is actually a shout out to the books. When it comes across a new family who have no interest in it's jungle theme, it actually changes to a different board game entirely. Special note: That game is Zathura (a space themed board game), which was made into a movie as well.

With the original being such a huge part of my childhood, I really wasn't hopeful when I saw the trailers for this one, but it blew me out of the water with how good it was. I was so happy with the references to the original, and not just references for the sake of it, but that actually made sense! And it made sense to me that the game would adapt and change to suit the world around it, in order to keep people playing. It was a proper sequel, not a remake, while still being updated and I thought it did a great job.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what I'm thinking is that if they lose all 3 lives, they don't actually die. Instead, the game resets them back to the start, with no memory of their first try. So Alex has been stuck in a loop for 20 years and he doesn't even feel or know it, cuz he doesn't remember. But I could be wrong, since Alex remembers those death traps when meeting the four for the first time. And the fact that Alex said "Time is kinda funny here". Maybe time works differently since the game modernized itself

@@yudhazacharias9377 That makes so much sense! And I think Alex knowing about the death traps actually helps your theory. You’d have to be insanely lucky to survive all those traps the first time without hints or guidance, and his first two deaths mentioned during the movie were from crashing a plane and a hot air balloon, so we know he wasn’t killed by those traps during that playthrough. What if Alex died to each trap during previous playthroughs and left warning markers when he respawned? They could be subtle enough to not be obvious to others, but they would make sense to Alex because he would think in a similar way even without his memories. He might not even realize they were intentional markers left by a person, but they would still draw his attention to look more closely at the surrounding area.

Alan Parrish coming back after 26 years wasn't the end of the game. He was stuck inside it until a five or an eight was rolled, and once he was released they all had to continue playing. After they completed the game in the original film, he and Sarah were immediately sent back to 1969, to exactly where and when the game began. Yet, all the participants (including the kids born later) retained knowledge of their experiences with Jumanji.

@matthewgillies7509
@matthewgillies7509 22 күн бұрын
@@rbrainsop1 every time travel trope known to exist. I can also base it off the film's own canon, as in this movie our perspective is through the four high school kids. You see, the game started in the 1990s and was paused for a long time, just as it was in the original, before resuming decades later. Meaning, you have two points of entry into a parallel space/time dimension (aka: Jumanji). Those who have been a player of Jumanji remember their experiences within it, regardless of changes made once the game ends. As such, once Colin Hanks' character left the game, his life resumed where it left off and continued as normal. Had he encountered those four other kids before they entered the game they likely would not have recognized him at all, as their time had not come. However, as they clearly do know who he is at the end of this film (and since it is a sequel to the original) Jumanji rules can be deduced as hard-coding memories of alternative realities and histories of its players, which re-emerge after the game has ended. Think of it this way: Reality "A" is where the game started, and where the game returns you if you're the one who started the game. Reality "B" is the path of events while the game is in session, and whatever transpires during it is erased at the game's conclusion. However, since characters in the original Jumanji film and this one, start playing at different times, you have people from Reality A and B within the pocket dimension of the game. Once the game is over, it doesn't follow Newtonian physics and erase the high schoolers, nor their memories of the past. I suspect that they're "returned" (or their memories are) to a Reality A, which they recognize as different from their former one, Reality B. This makes the kids at the end of this film a product of both. By engaging with Colin Hanks' character at the end, he knows they have returned from the game and finally "meeting" him for first time. By this rule, the kids from the original film may not necessarily remember what happened to them---yet. But they will once they pass that point in time when they originally began the game. Another example of this in film and TV is X-Men: Days of Future Past, Back to the Future, Star Trek: TNG, Stargate SG-1, and countless others.
@rbrainsop1
@rbrainsop1 21 күн бұрын
@@matthewgillies7509 Fair enough. But honestly, that feels more like a plot hole in this movie than cannon for the series. Every time travel story I've seen has fallen into one of a few categories- either you can change your own timeline, or you can't and everything that was going to happen does anyway, or any changes you make create a new timeline/reality. In the original movie, we see Alan and Sarah changing everything when they go back, including potentially saving the lives of the children's parents, whether this is the original timeline, or a new branch. So in this timeline, the events would never transpire to bring the kids to the game at all. So the only way your theory would work is if they simply wake up one day with a bunch of random memories from an alternate reality they never lived themselves. Those new memories would sit alongside all their own memories of their life in which their parents haven't died, and they never even encountered the game. In the new movies, imagine Alex waking up back in the 90's with the game still in his console. I can only imagine that he would do what we see the four later kids doing... he would destroy it. Which means that in his reality, they would never have the opportunity to encounter the game the way they did. In time travel stories when you meet fellow time travelers before they've met you in your own timeline, they don't recognize you. Just as we see with the kids in the first movie, and as you describe happening with Alex and the teens in this movie. But in those cases, those other people are still eventually going to go through all the events that brought you together. They simply haven't yet. But in both of these stories, the world has been changed enough that they *can't* eventually go through those events. So they will never have those experiences and come to know you. The recognition and knowledge will remain one-sided. So again, in the newer movies you would have a bunch of kids just waking up one day with memories from an alternate reality they never actually lived, alongside all their memories of the lives they have lived, including an uneventful detention in which they simply removed staples from magazines all afternoon (if they even wound up in detention together in this reality- I mean, honestly, who knows what ripples would occur. Some of them might not even live in that town in this timeline). And if that's the way the writers imagined it, I feel like there would need to be at least some recognition of that fact in the story. Instead, they act as if it all played out the way it did in the original timeline, despite the fact that it couldn't have. So again, I see your point. But that feels more like a plot hole than the actual way things work in this universe. In any case, if you're right, I think they could have done a much better job to make the story fit within that set of rules.

Have you guys seen Zathura? It's actually a Jumanji movie. As a book it was the sequel to Jumanji (same idea, of a board game coming to life), but more importantly, the game itself starts out as Jumanji and only becomes Zathura when the kid who found it ignores Jumanji and isn't interested in it. Jumanji "transforms" into Zathura, which is a space-based game that appeals more to the kid. I imagine that is where this idea sprouted from.

they dont have detention here, we have ISS in school suspension, or suspension where they send us home for a few days to play video games, weirdest punishment but eh who am i to argue lol. in ISS they once told me i can go to the rest room when the class goes to lunch, so i used his plant in the corner, the cop was amused when i insisted on pressing child abuse charges as its illegal to deny rest room breaks to minors in your care lol the coach wasnt when the cop said i was right and he would have to take him in with me for my indecent exposure... unless he wanted to hange his story... and thats how i never got told no for a restroom break again... for that year before i dropped out and started my 1st lawn care business a year later...

Maybe I’m crazy, but I find this to low key be the Rock’s best acting performance as well as the others, too. You can see and hear the “kids” inside all of them.

I always found it interesting to consider the will behind the game in the universe's lore. Jumanji as potrayed in the movies is dangerous but not evil. It seems to appear people whis life is stagnating in a way that keeps them away from their potential. So it challenges them and causes all sorts of collateral damage that it fixes when the players find their way and become able to complete it. Considering the harm it causes to people that its able to reverse, its quite possible no one is in danger of truly dying permanently if the game is cleared, yet its not like the players would ever know that. Only person we have seen who wasn't restored was a person who chose to stay for their own reasons.

This script was written by the Kasdans. Mostly the son but also the father, one of the most celebrated screenwriters who wrote Raiders of the Lost Arc, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Last Crusade. His son Jake is the main writer of both these films as well as New Girl. Celebrate writers! 📝 This script is the reason these films are as good as they are!

Regarding the plagiarism thing in the beginning, schools have software doing the checking. They upload all papers to a database that checks for similarities. The database also check against sources like books and scientific papers. It is also used at university level to check that you have references for everything.

I first watched Jumanji when i was a teenager and i kind of wasnt interested in seeing this movie or the second. Anyway, me and my little sister were bored one night and watched both movies back to back and we just LAUGHED. Was such a good time, a core memory for sure. Glad yall are reacting to this.

The one thing that bugs me about this movie is that Colin Hanks character immediately recognizes the four teenagers on the street who he has never seen before. He's been out of that game for 20 years, and this is just a random day for him.
