At the age of 49, weighing 18 stone odd and being one of the most unfit females on the planet, I've just watched your first jump rope lesson (which is brilliant) and have just managed 9, yes 9, continuous bounce steps after just a few minutes!!! I am so chuffed!!! I've got a long way to go to loose some pounds and get fit but it's a great start, I feel motivated, it feels achievable and above all, it's great fun. Thank you!!!

It's hard on your joints. You might be better getting a mini trampoline/rebounder and jogging on that as it cushions your knees and ankles but gives you a great cardio workout. 5 minutes on it and your heart gets pumping bigtime. Best thing is you can do it whilst watching your favourite TV program. Maybe do skipping one day and trampolining the next day?

I used to jump rope years ago to keep in shape. Now at 66 I have a need once more of getting into shape. Since being retired I have totally gone into sitting on a chair at the beach mode but I'm only about 195 lbs at 5'8". Only 15 pounds more than when I graduated high school. Liked your tutorial. I used to run cross country courses and used the jump rope to warm up. Hope you don't mind me saying but you have beautiful eyes and are what my friends would call "Drop Dead Gorgeous" hey it helps to get guys like me to watch your videos. lol Yes staying at home for months in this pandemic you tend to notice when a woman is beautiful and doing social distancing I couldn't say this in person but wanted you to know you made my day. Take care and be safe.

The best tutorial video I've seen so far. In the past I would always attempt skipping and then I'd get shin splints and figure it was just me...bad physical genetics. Good to know anyone can get shin splints if they don't take the time to condition themselves to this activity.

Great video Dr. Solomon. I recently at the age of 64 decided to start jumping again. I"m in good shape, no health issues so just want to spice up my activities. I'm glad I watched this because I was just going to try and do it on my driveway but now I guess I'll try something else to bounce(smile) on. Thank you for the great info about the shoes and all the aspects of beginners jumping. I now feel confident in starting. I look forward to the other levels once I master this one.

@DrSaraSolomon Hi. Thank you so much for this video! I am so touched & overwhelmed by your heartfelt character & life story. You are amazing to say the least, drop dead gorgeous, intelligent, driven to succeed, self mastered your time, dietary & eating habits, physical fitness ambitions & passions, hobbies, talents & gifts unlike anybody I've ever known. You've dedicated to living to the fullest & built the necessary foundation through extensive learning, perseverance & life experience. You've paid your dues with relentless & prolific research which has been appropriate & prerequisite to achieving your goals & dreams, creating your own stunning, beautiful identity which is what life is all about. You never quit & always adapt to meet your challenges & aspirations in all facets, dimensions & aspects of your world...I can tell you make any adjustments with almost neurotic precision to maximize every moment, perfect every skill without excuses or quitting & I love it! Your focus, passion for life & exemplary leadership is awe inspiring, absolutely praiseworthy & blows my mind (in case you can't tell). You are one in a million & very special, so with that said...now I can tell you a little about myself. I've been legally blind & had a heart condition since birth (WPW) which literally a couple hundred doctors over the years & decades misdiagnosed, even intensified, aggravated & complicated until I finally had a heart attack at the age of 32, which was when my life finally started making sense. I'm 45 now, & lost the best years of my life, my youth, my personal & professional opportunities along the way because of all the prescribed drugs which led to desperate lifestyle choices, substance abuse issues & addictions to attempt to cope & compensate for so many unresolved & frustrating moments where I reached out only to be given life threatening, incompetent, highly toxic, hazardous & detrimental advice, medical & mental care. Those memories & experiences are still fresh in my brain like it was yesterday, but I don't want to forget. My past from hell makes me who I am today, a strong man no longer addicted to street drugs, on any prescribed medications or in bondage to the heartless tactics & deceptions of Westernized medicine or psychology or the hands of any misleading & counterproductive institutions I've submissively trusted. I too, have faced my demons & won because I'm still above ground & moving forward. I recently started jumping rope maybe a month ago (on my own & before I ever saw you on KZbin) with a rope that's too small, on the pavement in my parking spot at the condo where I live, with the wrong type of rope & footwear. I'm so grateful I found you on KZbin & hope to learn & grow from your strength, tenacity & wisdom. Thank you so much for shining your light in public, said the blind man. Even I can see it.

Omg! Thanks for doing this tutorial for people like me, who's a complete beginner... Really! I've never jumped rope before. All my life I've been a fat girl the most that I used to weigh was 330 pounds and recently got down to 275 but I'm stuck and need something new to workout, I started today and thought I wouldn't be able to do two in a row. I did 5 sets of two successfully and many other that I failed. But hey! I'll keep going till I reach my goal!

I have been jumping rope for several years now on and off, after I developed knee problems from training for a marathon at my age, so glad the trend is building so I could stop getting odd looks. Anyway, I was a little turned off by how much time was spent on basic stuff but kept watching hoping to get to the bounce step. Glad I stuck around, there were things I hadn't considered. I know to bounce on the balls of my feet, but i hadn't thought of bending a little, which makes sense now that I think of it, and few other things to. It's harder to unlearn bad habits then to learn new good habits, so hope more people watch these before getting back to jumping rope.

You need to do what YOUR body tells you... someone can say "Skip for 35 mins" but it's up to you to know your own limits. Following a "Pro" will get your hurt lol so use your own limits and build the muscles as needed. I honestly couldn't jump more then 3-5 mins a day when I started 6 months ago. I was 245lbs, I weigh 195lbs now. I jump up to 30 mins a day, sometimes one session and sometimes three 10 minute sessions. Depends on my workout that day. Don't get discouraged of you can only jump for a short period of time, it will get better if you stick with it 😀

I so wish I’d found this video earlier before I attempted jump rope with no warm up/stretches and bust my ankle jumping like an uncoordinated baby elephant aged 50 on hard concrete in bare feet with a speed rope way too long for my 5ft height. Can’t walk for a few weeks now let alone hop skip or jump! Brilliant beginner video - now I know EVERYTHING I did wrong - pretty much everything you shouldn’t do I did. Painful lesson learned.

Thanks for the video and the link to your gear. My opinion on the running shoe logic is a result of the shoe marketing. I've been running barefoot. Our feet and legs are designed to absorb shock. They do it very well. The problem is that people have lived their lives with their feet in a cushioned shoe so once they start barefoot, it's painful unless introduced properly to build up your feet and calves. The only reason to wear shoes while jumping rope is to avoid the pain when the rope hits your foot.

Thank you for showing us how to jump correctly. I decided to add jumping rope into my workout routine and realized something was wrong because I kept tripping on the rope and my shins were hurting. I was jumping rope like I did when I was a kid, just swinging it around and double jumping. I'm older now so coordination is a bit of a challenge, lol. I'm practicing though like how you showed us. Thank you. I'll get the hang of it eventually. By any chance can you share how many minutes equals how many calories burned formula?

Lots of great info here, thank you! That said, the demonstrations of what not to do really could use some follow up. I know not to do those things but, as a beginner, I don’t know HOW not to do those things. Some elaboration on how to physically feel when your form is off followed by concrete steps describing how to fix that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Actually is alway better and healthier jump rope barefoot. Forget this fancy shoes. Just take your time, as your feet muscles are not used to it and need time for adaptation.

@@Joao-ur7ey actually I tried jumping rope barefoot and the rope kept getting stuck in between my toes and I was going to trip. So the coach is right.
