Bit of an update: I'm about three months in with calorie restriction/food tracking and jump roping, and I'm down 12.5kg (from 88.5kg to 76kg; about 194 to 167 in pounds). As I mentioned before, I started this program because my blood work was terrible (cholesterol, triglycerides, liver) and I managed to cure that in only a month (no joke)! My BP has also always been borderline as well, but yesterday I went to the doctor and it is perfect (120/76). My doctor is pretty shocked at the results I have delivered in three months. He said I'm like a different person. When I told him I've been jumping rope, he said he may go out and by a rope. :-) I'm still not quite where I want to be. I have a bit of belly fat left, but my abs are starting to come through (for the first time in probably 20 years, lol). I think I will probably need to lose another couple of kilograms to get where I want to be, but that should be no problem. My jump rope skills are coming along nicely as well. I'm doing crossovers now. I still haven't attempted double unders yet, but I want to get my crossovers smooth before I move on to them. I had some knee pain the beginning so I'm super cautious about injury prevention because not being able to jump rope for a week or so sucked! Funny side note. I live in Tokyo and it seems everyone in Japan learns to jump rope like this in elementary school or junior high. My wife has been telling me she is really good at jumping rope and I shrugged it off. Yesterday we went to the park together and she said bring your rope. Even though she hasn't touched a rope in decades she was doing double unders, crossovers, crossover double unders and she can do everything forward and backward. Maybe it's appropriate you guys used a Japanese word in your name. :-) Anyway, if any 40+ people read this, diet and jump rope is a great way to get back in shape for older people too. Just don't overdo the jump roping in the beginning and make sure your form is dialed in to prevent injury.

Zen Dude Fitness do you lose muscle from doing this?? I heard cardio contributes to muscle loss

No sir. You lose muscle when you are not eating enough to maintain your muscle mass. These workouts should just help you lose body fat if you have your nutrition honed in!

William Phan Muscle loss can happen when the body needs more ATP (adenosine tryphosphate) which is essentially what the body uses for energy. It's an energy molecule our body makes from glucose (sugar or carbs) or protein. Anyway, the muscle loss starts when people don't fuel their workout properly, like eating enough carbs or protein, and the body uses the protein in the muscles to break down for ATP. That's what I'm getting at lol. Fuel your workouts and incorporate weights to keep your gains or gain more, eat to fuel yourself, and you're golden :) hope this helps dude.

Ever since I came across this channel, I decided to give jumping rope a shot seeing all transformations you guys went through. After about a month of jumping rope I saw the results on the scale after about 2 months (maybe less) I started seeing results on my body, now I can see my abs and external obliques. So glad I came across this channel 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I dropped like 15 pounds in 2 weeks doing 25 min of jump rope a day

I am 36 and I have been skipping rope for almost a year now , I was 115 kgs now i am 80 kgs - skipping rope is specialized in burning body fats in the whole body . Now I can do 40 minutes and more . My advice is to jump rope on an empty stomach , I always do that in the morning before going to work . My respiration is much much better , I can jump rope about 30 minutes without stop (can do 5000 during that time) , I can do HIIT also through this . Sometimes I do Tabata in some other days . Skipping rope is a treasure .

I've started learning to 'jump rope' and coincided it with intermittent fasting. I'm halfway through my second week and seeing results that are positive. I'm 53, 5' 11" and at the start stood at 13st 3lbs. I'm now down to 12st 7lbs, but not as yet 'toned'. My biggest issue with jumping rope has been catching my feet as the rope passes under them, but I think this is mainly due to muscle fatigue of my calves and a lapse of concentration on hand/arm positioning. I tend to go (now) in bursts of 10-20 rotations, a short rest period in between and attempts at mixing up the foot work, but still messing up along the way. Overall, I aim for a jump session time of 10-20 minutes, depending on my schedule for that day. I also combine this with body conditioning style dumbell training focusing primarily on compound movements, complimented by stretches of body areas being worked/targeted. But to the Zen Dudes, thank you for your videos - keep up the great work. As for the rest of you guys and gals doing the jump rope 'thang' - good luck to you all, and may your efforts be rewarded ten fold :)

I just started Jump Rope last month. Only been at it for 20 days. But what used to be 12 jumps nonstop 4 reps a day became 50 nonstop 6 reps a day (about 5 mins) total of 300 a day. I used to have really low stamina because of my thyroid disorder, but I haven’t felt this energized my entire life. And I’m nearing 40! Watching you guys making it look easy inspired me. This is the perfect exercise for me. Can’t wait to learn tricks. But I challenged myself to do at least 800 of regular bounce a day before I learn new tricks. One day at a time. 😉

Tariq Zaman I am 40 and lost 27lbs through calorie counting and jump rope in 3 months. I'm super lean now. Jump rope is a really important part of my regimen, but the key is calorie restriction. I use the free iPhone app Lose It and it works like a charm for me. Just be conservative in your calorie tracking (double check any calorie counts that seem too good to be true) and you'll be fine.

@JumpRopeDudes
@JumpRopeDudes 7 жыл бұрын
Sadrea M - we see this often. It's possible with any type of high intensity work that you could sacrifice a tiny bit of muscle, but that can't stop you from getting lean. If you have a decent amount of muscle and you want to show it off, the best way to do this is with high intensity work (like the jump rope) and an appropriate calorie deficit. Even if you do lose a tiny bit of muscle, you're going to peel away layers of fat so your muscles can shine and you'll be jacked! Join the 4 week challenge (link above) and let us know what you think!

Hey Dan, love your videos! Question... are you against jogging /running? It's difficult to trust what's good what's bad when it comes to running. Wanted to ask your honest opinion on it. Thanks... Stay fit playa

We are all for jogging if you like to do it! However, we hate jogging lol and compared to jump rope it is not as efficient but like i said we want you doing any form of exercise you love

Hey Zen Dude(s), I've been skipping for about two weeks and have been developing pain in my shins. Do you have any recommendations for dealing with the pain and is this normal for beginners? Also loving my Crossrope, thanks for the videos.
@JumpRopeDudes
@JumpRopeDudes 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your support brother! First, shin splints are completely normal when jumping rope. I always tell people when starting out to only do 2-3 workouts per week vs 4-5 until there shinis become used to it

when you make another video like this could you include how long it took them to see results. just curious since It takes everyone a different amount of time to see results. I love your channel by the way! just started jumping rope an hour every day. I'm trying to get rid of stubborn fat in my stomach that running hasn't gotten rid of! And I want some abs!

You answered your own question :) Everyone's body truly is different so It takes everyone a different amount of time. The best way to ensure you will get the result you want is to workout + eat in calorie deficit EVERY DAY until you get the results. Don't focus on TIME focus on being INTENSE with your workouts

@JumpRopeDudes 7 жыл бұрын
Great q's brotha! We recommend doing 2-3 of these workouts per week in addition to what you are doing now (do them on non lifting days) Sometimes we carb cycle but I really only do that when I am looking to cut body fat faster. right now we (brandon and dan) are both more in maintenance phase.

got ya and thanks for replying so promptly man! i just came across your channel and diggin the content. i do fasted cardio (steady state) on my non lift days but might just go with jump rope instead. when i do i get extremely tight calves, do you guys have videos addressing this issue? also any specific quality jump ropes you recommend for a beginner??

I was jump roping for 21 days when I was back home in the Philippines early 2020 and lost 5kgs but when I came back to China for work I stopped. Now I'm back to jumping again. Day 19! I'm really hoping I could buy one of your awesome cross ropes, unfortunately I couldn't find one in China.

I'm 40 and had to make a big change because my cholesterol and liver numbers were getting out of control and I was going to have to go on meds. I have lost 16.5lbs in the last 45 days by tracking all my calories and jumping rope / walking. Got my blood work back yesterday, and I cured both my cholesterol and liver issues. For me, the jump rope is all about a way to burn a lot of calories in a short period of time. I wanted to avoid running because of the stress on the joints, and I find it boring. I'm 6ft and down to 178lbs. Trying to get down to 170 or so to get that lean physique. I still suck at jump rope, but I'm building up my endurance and getting a bit better each day. Hopefully the jump rope will be a good maintenance tool when I do hit my ideal weight. Would love to see some more body weight exercise videos from you guys as well. I want to avoid going to the gym.

This is awesome dude! 16.5 lbs is a LOT in 45 days man, well done! There is no magic pill, it really is a matter of consistency (meaning, 1) eat in a calorie deficit and 2) MOVE! (these workouts lol)). We would love to feature your transformation on our website! Send us a before and after to contact@zendudefitness.com :)!! KEEP GOING MAN!

Thanks! I'm not down to where I want to be just yet, but if I am able to achieve my goal, I'll drop you guys a line and maybe send some pics along. Thanks for keeping me inspired with the videos! One of the biggest hints for me was hearing that you guys are always tracking calories and aiming for a calorie deficit, even though you have achieved these awesome physiques. Where I have failed in the past is after cutting weight I made the mistake of thinking I had the diet dialed in so I no longer needed to track my calories. Basically once I stopped tracking calories that was the beginning of the end. Not going to make that mistake this time. The plan this time is to cut to 170, up my calorie intake to maintenance or slightly below (while eating clean with plenty of protein), and also up my exercise (jump rope and bodyweight stuff). Hopefully that will help me to change my fat/muscle composition without becoming a skeleton or getting stuck at skinny fat. I'm already feeling good and fitting into clothes I haven't been able to wear in years, but the fat around the stomach just doesn't want to go. While cutting at this pace requires a lot of discipline, maintenance is going to be the real challenge.
