Welcome to my redneck amusement park! I hope you liked the video! Some folks think the rappelling incident was staged. I assure you, it was not. I really did get stranded, I really was alone, I really did have a rope with me, and it really was the first time I had brought it. Why did I need to be up in the lift to get drone footage? I should have explained better. Of course I can get drone footage standing on the ground. I wanted footage of me up high in the lift. Mainly I was looking to get a cool thumbnail. Oh, and the pond is 12-13 feet deep in the area where we were jumping. I estimate the highest I jumped was about 35', 10.5 meters. Have an awesome weekend everybody!

I got in a similar situation a couple of weeks ago when my ladder fell after I had gotten on our roof. No one around to respond to my calls for help so I "slipped" off the lowest edge I could find. It was a hard hit and I'm still recovering. My family is very angry with me. Alas. I'm 73 but didn't feel like it until now. :(

There is something different about that first step off of a structure vs. a step off of a rock face. Even if the rock face has an abrupt edge, it is less nerve racking to go off than it is go out a window and on to the rope. Just another idea for a back up regarding stuck up on a boom lift. You could put a back up battery in the circuit with a switch in the bucket. You can keep it charged through the normal charging system. Run a line up to the basket to the switch and occasionally use the system to be sure the rig is functional. I suppose you could also use it as a back up battery when your main goes flat with just another switch. That way you can still work with just a flip of a switch and then when you are finished with the job sometime later fix the problem with the main battery. Sounds like a good plan to me. I would do it if I had your rigs.

As a rock climber, I might have some suggestions. For instance, don't let go of the rope below the rappel device while stepping out/off the platform. Either keep it in your hand or wrap it around your leg a few times. You don't want to weight that figure-8 and not be holding onto the rope or it will be a quick trip down. There are better ways to coil a rope for climbing too, but that probably doesn't matter since this is for emergencies. Mostly, rock climbers need to be able to feed out a rope to a climber and not have it be twisted.

I've had lead to lead connections that looked perfectly good go completely dead several times in my lifetime, usually a car that just stops running for no reason. I put in a group 31 battery with studs and put ring terminals on the cables in every machine or vehicle where it will fit. The tools to do it are on Ebay and they're not particularly expensive. I also think the group 31 batteries give you more power per dollar. Hope this helps!

How does one know what the lift is capable to "hang out" without tipping? When jumping into the pond it looked like it was on a slope as well? Where you not afraid that it might tip over into the water? Please excuse me if this is a stupid quest. 😅
@FarmCraft1012 жыл бұрын
Good question. It can lift 1000 pounds in most positions. 500 pounds or less it can do in any position. It has a tilt sensor that tells you if it’s tilted too much. We never did more than 500 pounds over the pond, and we didn’t even have the boom extended very far. We were well within its capacity. And yes, I did think that through before we started jumping.
