I have been on keto life style for three years now. By the way I am 73 years young female with a wt loss of 60 lbs and off of prednisone and bp med cut in half. So yes it is stainable! My son is also on a keto life style and has been off insulin for three years.

Familiar story, congratulations! I, too, have been keto for three years, lot 50+ lbs, at 70 feel the best I have in many years. I’m not perfect keto but pretty good. My weight has been stable for quite awhile and I definitely feel like this is sustainable. I can’t imagine going back to the way I ate pre-keto.

Has Keto caused any harm to your gallbladder? I have gallstones, causes by the body not processing fats, creating stones in the bladder. The Keto diet is fats. I want to try the Keto diet but fear what it might do to my gallbladder. Possibly it could help me not need my gallbladder removed. Anyone here are Keto with no gallbladder?

J Robert sugar is the enemy of your gallbladder. Stop the sugar, grains and processed foods, continue low fat till you get yourself tested again in 60-90 days. You should see a good test result. Please let us know how you’re doing!

Yes! Which is one of the benefits of a well-formulated ketogenic diet, as Phinney points out at the beginning of this video, which includes removing virtually all sugar and starch from the diet, and avoiding the highly inflammatory processed seed oils. Phinney may be mentioning the effects of certain drugs on inflammation because this audience is largely physicians, and because we live in a society that looks for a 'magic pill' to fix everything - and the highlight, in contrast, how effective a well-formulated ketogenic diet is, in contrast to the drugs.

You can eat a plant based diet and get a better result. Humans evolved on carbs. It’s the processed foods and sugars they killing everyone. Not whole grains.

@@matthewjimenez3556 Not everyone. I was vegetarian on a plant based diet getting worse. Some people with insulin resistance need to keep their carbs under 20g/day in order to make it work. It’ s pretty hard to do keto plant based with that few daily carbs.

@@matthewjimenez3556 humans evolved with big kills and then fasting mode with greens and a small amount of low carbohydrate fruits, until the next big kill. Farming grains is a relatively recent blip in the evolutionary timeline compared to the Hunter gatherer lifestyle. Humans are adapted to being in ketosis and burning fat for fuel, all the scientific evidence supports this.

Sir we are also able to reduce CRP drastically to accepted levels .. without any Medication or Supplements. A couple of months of changes in the intake of food and not eating all day long .. has helped everyone with higher CRP to absolutely normal & accepted levels of CRP.

Only disagreement is on protein intake. He says 10-15% of calorie needs...I believe 15 -22% would be better and greatly help with keeping you in ketosis.

A number of people have said that a little higher protein intake works best for them. As Phinney says, the details have to be adjusted for each person. However, for those who are insulin resistant, he says that higher levels of protein can interfere with the goals of weight loss and/or reversing Type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome. On the other hand, Dr. Eric Westman has had considerable success with around 2,000 since 2006 in helping patients to lose excess weight and reverse the need for diabetic drugs and reducing or eliminating insulin by following the 'No sugar, No starch dier'. His patients are allowed to eat all the meat they want (real meat, not Spam, etc), small amounts of cream or cheese, 2 cups of leafy greens, and 1 cup of above ground vegetables per day. No fruit. No starchy vegetables, and no processed foods, which removes the primary source of industrial seed oils. It's easy to look up his presentations on YT i you are interested. Two experts I respect, with slightly different approaches regarding protein intake. As you know, meat is not just made of protein, but also contains fat. Good meats should contain a relatively high amount of fat. It adds nutrients, and FLAVOR Obviously the fat in meats also helps to keep people in ketosis, and adds significantly to satiety, and along with the protein, reduces cravings for sugar and starch.

Stephen, I would find your opinion on Resverstrol intriguing. Context is your inference that the benefit of Omega 3, in the form of consuming Fish (as an example) vs and Omega 3 in he form of a supplement is inconsistent.

CAC [coronary artery calcium scan] score is the best way to screen for Coronary risk. Ask Ivor My scan was 1076, its supposed to be 0. Beware I immediately started strict KETO.

I’ve been on a strict keto diet close to a year already. But, my psoriasis inflammation has not gotten better, in fact I think it got much worse while being on a LCD. My A1C dropped tremendously, but my psoriasis flare has not. I am so lost, and don’t know what to do, I just don’t want to be harsh biologic. I don’t feel ready for all the side effects 😢.

Some people need to go carnivore others lion diet for sometime. You also can be going through fat adaptation still and or healing crisis. Hang on there. It can be that something in your diet that you still consume is triggering like coffee or other plant. That's why lion for three months work miracles. After healing on lion you reintroduce slowly, one at the time other foods maybe even some plants. I'm similar to you with roseasca, still there... But I'll deffo wait patiently for it to get better. I want to try lion for longer but potentially in September for three months. So far I tried for two weeks each time.

So, if you're trying to be KETO and weight training to help gain or keep muscle mass how is that accomplished with lower protein intake? Most nutritionists say that to gain muscle mass you have to ingest 1gm of protein per pound of your body weight. Or a 160lb male needs to consume 160g of protein per day.

What ketone & glucose meter is used and what GKI ratios are aimed for ?

I use a keto mojo, there are other brands, some people like them better. I don't aim for a ratio. I've seen readings all over the place including very high glucose and ketones at the same time. I don't think this is bad, since the "weird" readings are typically after "weird" situations. For example, I fasted 36 hours, during which I ran 3 miles and the next day lifted weights. After weight lifting my glucose and ketones were both high ("bad" GKI ratio). I have no idea what this means, but I felt pretty good, and I don't "normally" fast 36 hours. Was that a "bad" ratio -- or just a normal metabolic response to a fairly unusual situation. Interestingly enough, my glucose dropped very quickly after the workout (no eating) giving a much "better" GKI ratio....... I strive to keep ketones over 0.5mmol/l and glucose under 110 mg/dl. I like to see fasting glucose around 80 to 90. Even one night of bad sleep will boost my fasting glucose - don't get too worried at first about your numbers. The first step is to start tracking, then you begin to optimize. Take your time, don't stress strange results.

See Dr Bosworth, Dr Boz on you tube. Ratio for weight loss easy GKI. glucose divided by ketones under 80 for weight loss. Percentage under 40 for healing. Under 20 for cancer. I believe that is correct. Not medical advice. 😊

Keto Mojo and Precision Xtra are the two commonly available meters that can test both ketones and glucose. As far as ratio, it's doesn't seem to be meaningful unless you are trying out the experimental press/pulse therapy for certain types of cancers.

@@ldean8360 Elevated glucose in the hour or two after a hard workout is very common but doesn't have an exact explanation at this time. Most people also see ketones spike super high and glucose go super low a few hours after the glucose spike.

It has been helpful to me to understand the mechanisms to achieve much lower fasting insulin, and higher ketone levels. I tend to disagree with her using exogenous ketones, since it seems to me that the ones that we need are the ones that we produce ourselves. I also think that hour long videos are too long....
