Its great for Shima to preach like this. Everything he said is so true

Shima is a true legend. I have recently returned to rollerblading in my 30s after about 10 years but it never left my heart. This is great to hear him as a godfather, talking about the future and love of the sport. I feel the same way and I was never even that good. It just happened to be the sport I truly loved. Keep up the great interviews and content.

I'm in my early 30's just got some skates, waiting for them to arrive. Haven't skated in about 10-12 years. I'm really nervous about starting again. How's it going for you so far?

I bought my first pair of rollerblades at 33. On Sundays, I enjoy rollerblading with my wife in an empty parking lot while listening to oldies. It's super magical and fun.

Can't believe I'm here listening to Brian almost 20 years later. I still haven't found anything so magical and fulfilling like rollerblading .

I know for a fact skating will come back! Not quite sure how it went away to begin with... I'm 37 and started skating again because I just couldn't stop thinking about it. I look at it the same as old dudes that play hockey in a pick-up league. They played a sport when they were young, they loved it.. then they got married, had kids, all that good stuff. Then they turn 35 and dig out their old hockey gear, and go play with other old nerds. Same with skating.. I noticed a lot of my old homeboys were buying new blades and skating at the parks again. My one buddy was skating with his little boy.. He said, the kid asked me for a scooter; so I spent 500 bucks on 2 new pairs of skates. All the old crews are getting back into it. I have no idea how scooters became acceptable, but that's like bringing a pogo stick to the skate park. Good marketing I guess.

In my opinion, if it has wheels and rolls, do cool shit with it. I grew up skateboarding but managed to avoid the hive mind hatred towards bladers cuz my friend was one. When I saw him land a 720 off a kicker I was like, oh this sport ain't for me cuz I'm not a gymnast. I literally watched him and said, "yeah this sport is too athletic for me" lmaoo But fr, if kids are doing backflips and shit on scooters, so be it. Let em rip

Here's my hot take. Men need experiences that are hard to overcome (but not impossible) and builds confidence. Getting hurt is just part of the job of becoming the type of man that can overcome any adversity. The things that are the hardest and you struggle through the most are the things you look back on fondly in life. The most important things in my life are my kids, my years spent in actual combat, and blading. They just happen to be the hardest things I have ever had to deal with in my life.

wow seeing him talk. Brian Shima was the reason why i rollerbladed back in 2004 when i was a teenager. Dude really inspired a lot of kids back in the day and probably now to pick up this fun sport.

I dont think so oli, i think our sport have to stay at the same level than bmx or skate. I want to Austin and Billy talk obout this
@Adjustmentxdisorder3 жыл бұрын
Blading has grown past x games. X games and over marketing killed blading. The people who blade now do it for love. It grew as a sport in the shadows and it's slowly but surely making a resurgence. Bigger and better than it ever was.

Ill start by saying im 34 yr opd i havent skated in 14 yr and ill always remember and respect Shima but hearing him talk about wanting to just pass the tourch and fellng lke that was his responsibility just made me respect him even more so many others would hold on to the tourch as long as they can do ruthless shit to smother smaller flames. Not Shima not rollerblading.

Here's an idea: Make a decent pair of skates that doesn't cost a person on minimum wage they're weeks wages 😅
@Misterblank3 жыл бұрын
I feel like the Majestic 12's have that bang for your buck price point, out of all the hobbies I got into, Street blading ranks as one of the lower cost barriers to street sports outside of skateboarding. I used to spend thousands annually on videogames while working a minimum wage job. You can find good prices under 200 for a pair of M12's depending on your size.
