Installing a FISH FINDER on my Old Town Topwater 106 KAYAK (Garmin Striker 4) - Full Install

Hey bro, awsome job with this vid. This will be my 2nd season, not fishing but fishing, from my kayak. Hoping fir a few tournaments. I have a 2021' Oldtown 106 Pdl. I actually just purchased my garmin Striker 4. I did DIY my batt- box, this winter for my electronics, with the VM/USB/cigg plug panel. Set up my cart, I can carry, on board and other accessories. My boat gets one accessory a year. Last year was my J2 Bixpy, and a 2nd battery. Me at 5ft 7" 151 lbs, she moves 4 to 5 mph. Be safe bro 🙏 😎 🎣

Good job !!! May want to use a rat tail file to clean the hole edges next time. Also, try a 1 or 2 amp fuse. 30 amp is way too much for a unit that should only draw milliamps.

Just a quick observation. The transducer was mounted wrongly because it can easily get damaged if you hit a rock. The right or safe way is to have it mounted below the kill plate so the KP serves as a cover or protection for the transducer. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmGrknl9er5jldU There are other Mount plates which you can turn upside down to get the right safe position.

Yeah that issue was fixed already, however, I ran that set up with no issues on the transducer luckily. I was able to find Navarre Kayak and ordered the skupper Mount and now it’s hidden from any potential dangers!

The battery box that was built has a 2 pole connector attached to it that connects to the 5 way split.

Hey man What's Going On. you did an awesome job on this video man. The camera position came out well I like that .that was pretty cool. I am you going to bring my kayak to your ( JUNA KAYAK SHOP ) so you can put a fishfinder on it too. I have a truck load a 53-foot trailer load of food & water I have to take down to Louisiana for the hurricane victims. I put my kayak in the trailer and drop it off at your shop on the way to Louisiana and pick it up on the way back. "LOL" I can't wait for you to take it out to see how it works. I know i won't be kayaking for a while I will be trucking 🚛 strong to Louisiana & Texas for the next month. Great video man keep up the good work and be safe out there.

Trust me, man, I’ve lived through three hurricanes down in Texas before moving here. I know how it is when they hit land. I’ll be heading out tomorrow to the water and trying out the garmin! Video should be up in a couple weeks!

@@JuNaTVFishing wow Man survive 3 hurricanes in Texas. I am glad you're still here with us Brothers. You definitely have some stories to tell while drinking a cold beverage. I only been in one down in Florida. I had to ride it out at a truck stop in the truck. I thought my wife was going to die where in about me. I had no telephone connection she didn't know where I was and if I was on time and Save. She knew I was in the State of Florida but that's it. She did not want to raise three boys by herself. Now she's got six to worry about .That's cool Can't wait to see the video when it comes out. Hidden Lake Charles now should be there tonight.

Do you transport over long distances? If so, do you unhook the transducer or do you leave it mounted? I usually travel at least an hour drive to get to my kayak destinations and just looking for suggestions. I will be purchasing my fishfinder in March and looking for suggestions.

Some places are about 45 mins from me. I transport on j-loaders on my Jeep, so I leave the transducer on since it doesn’t hit anything. I’m just very careful when it’s on the ground just in case but I’ve had no issues yet!

Nice video! But, I have to ask if you knocked the transducer off yet? I thought about installing mine the way you did with the original bracket, but I was concerned about the height of the transducer sticking above the hull that it would end up getting torn off.

I just took the yak out this passed Sunday and it did fine. Of course I was careful as well when launching keeping the front of the yak in the water without it being anywhere close to the ground so when I got in it would not scrape the launch ramp. But it did good. I will try and get it into different bodies of water also to test the durability, but I’m also waiting to get a bracket made that will recess the transducer you in the hull a little more where it won’t be exposed to potential damage.

@@ifaulkingham I have one drawn up that I have not yet found anyone to 3D Print yet. I was really looking for someone to do metal work so I know the Bracket would be sturdy. However, so far, I've been careful with launching and it has worked just fine,. Once I can get someone to make this bracket for me, I will definitely do another video on it and hopefully be able to get them out to people who have this setup.

Nope, it lasted a year going strong, but I also found a mount from Navarre Kayak Fishing who makes one specifically for my yak and fish finder transducer that keeps it out of harms way. It fits in the front scupper!
