I think mock scrapes work. My camera captured deer non stop from 5:19-5:52 playing, mingling, passing through,eating, (no fawns yet!) and just being social. It’s on an X of long existing travel 👍 super cool technique for getting to know your herd 👊

I guarantee they work! I have three years of photos of mock scrapes versus no scrapes to prove it. No doubt about it. Plus, I see bucks always stop which gives me a nice stationary target to shoot from my stand across from the scrape.

I implemented 3 of your mock scrapes March. With in days I have video of 3 does walking by with in a 20 second video hitting on the scrape vine. In another 20 second video I have 2 small black bears hitting on it. Theu have that stick bouncing like a yoyo in the video. Love it.

Hey Jeff great information as always.. I have been following your no-till food plot and I am doing it on an acre of property n that’s between an affordable field and doe bedding. But in this video this is the first time I noticed you said crush the buckwheat then plant the buckwheat. Did I miss this in other videos. Because reviewing my notes you’d said to spread the food plot seed then crush the buckwheat. Does it matter which way for brassica’s?

Glad I watched this. Regarding Quinclorac, you mentioned ounces per acre. Is that of the 75% concentration stuff? I am ordering some and it says use a rate of 64oz/acre? That must not be specifically for switchgrass or am I missing something?

I just told my hunting partner it's time for one arrow a night. Everyone asks me why one arrow. I am a firm believer that you only get one opportunity to harvest mature deer.

What are your thoughts on using the same technique planting brassicas into a standing rye plot from last fall?

Do you recommend spreading brassica seed only after buckwheat is crushed? I was under the impression brassica was spread into standing buckwheat then crush. Thank you.

You can spread brassica after buckwheat is crushed because the seed is so small. That way with broadcaster, you get better coverage rather than the seed hitting standing buckwheat. Jeff said that number of times. Bigger seed like beans you need to do before crushing it.
@TheSmithtj80
@TheSmithtj80 2 жыл бұрын
@Number 1 Fan huh? Just go to the 3:10 of this video and that's exactly how he says he does it... "In the case of brassica, crush, then spread seed" the brassica seed is so small, it will find it's way too soil 🤷

Starting 2 acres of new plots this year... I don't plan to go with buckwheat until next season. I sprayed once already with 2,4-D and Round-up and might spray 1 or 2 more times with just Round-up. I'm gonna try PlotStart, but w/o a soil test I'm not sure what I need for lime and fertilizer. I can't wait to throw seed down in August!

Since Bucks change their range in the fall, do we need to worry about making fuck betting sanctuary any of the year besides September October November and December? Issue is the best trail I have on my property goes right through my best buck bedding area in relation to my food plots. I can stay off the road leading up to the hunting season and during the hunting season. would that still be effective in providing a buck bedding sanctuary?

Update on switch grass, new planting, sprayed three times last year, frost seeded in January, two spraying this year, still bare dirt. All vegetation around bare lines are two three feet tall. Been getting great weather and tons of rain. Starting to worry.

Update- Had a huge storm come through and we got tons of rain and my switch grass is starting to pop up. Weather has been high 60’s mid 70’s during the day, low 50’s mid 40’s at night. Have some broadleaf weeds also coming in unfortunately. Hoping mowing will help keep them under control.

In plots from previous season that have a thick establishment of the winter rye coming in do you leave this as the cover crop for your fall plantings or terminate this in spring and plant buckwheat for the cover crop?
@johnduellman5760
@johnduellman5760 2 жыл бұрын
@Number 1 Fan If the rye seeds out in July couldn't a guy just wait the germination period of that new seed to start and then terminate the new rye when planting the fall plot?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 2 жыл бұрын
I never leave for a Fall cover crop...very bad practice. I terminate before it goes to seed by mowing or by chemical. Usually by chemical
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 2 жыл бұрын
No because the seeds from the rye become planted too early and choke out anything you plant in your Fall plots. Yiu do not want to let the rye produce a viable seed head

Hey Jeff. I am in the Knoxville area. I planted my buckwheat on May 24 this year. This was in a first time plot that has always been a fallow piece of land for at least 5 years. Rebuilding the soil is underway. The buckwheat took well and has filled in . I have been watching your videos for a couple years now and am curious about what to overseed here. I bought some clover I was planning on putting down once we get to knee high and then again after we crush it down. Is there a better or companion overseed to accomplish the rebuilding and giving our boys enough to eat later this fall? Thanks for all you do here sir. It is a fountain of knowledge. Keep shining.
