Great video. You taught me a lesson that I'll never forget and it is one that is working great for us. Plant a row and skip a row so I can drive my Kubota up the middle and till with my 5 foot tiller. Sure cuts down on the work.

TexarkanaPrepper Plant a row, skip a row is by far the best weed control I’ve found in the garden. It also gives you plenty room to work, water and harvest. Simple but very effective. :-) …..Donald

Everything is sure looking GREAT! Sorry about your little pepper plant...pesky birds! Good tip on the recycled CD. When we had a bunch of big cherry trees the birds would really get after the cherries. So we used Flash tape tied all in the trees. It was the only thing that worked. Thanks for the peek at the garden! :)

I'm always encouraged by your videos! I'm a transplanted city slicker who never liked the city but had to live there due to a great job I had! I now have a little more space & time in the country to try and grow something but it's a struggle trying to get my brown thumb to green up! Your dirt must be really good as mine just won't grow anything very easy! I do everything my county extension office says but I think it has a lots to do with learning through trial and error so I'm not giving up as I want to be like Donald! Thank you for what you have taught me!

Wish my corn was like that here in Florida, but to hot and I get a wasp bug that stings the ears and lays a egg in it then come a worm. One year I had some nice white sweet corn but last few times I tried some the wasp bug was a real big problem.

If you haven't already re-thinned the corn, why not leave one row untouched and see if there is any difference in the production? My neighbor leaves his corn about 3 or 4 inches apart and he gets great results! Just a thought? Chuck
@webcajun9 жыл бұрын
Fensterfarm Greenhouse A couple of weeks ago I watched a show produced by a university that experimented with field corn plant spacing. They compared plots planted at traditional spacing with several high density plots. Once harvested, even though the high density plots had more plants, the yield either stayed the same or actually decreased. At a spacing of 3-4 inches it would be very close to a decrease in yield…..Donald

When I was young I remember the blackbirds biting the young tomato plants in half like that. They just left them lay some times. Never could figure what that that was all about. Do you use stakes or other supports on your larger peppers? Mine are getting tall.

How does it not blow over? Do you get good pollination like that? I plant in blocks. Rows 30" apart with corn plants 6" apart.
@webcajun6 жыл бұрын
I’ve always heard you had to plant corn close together to get good pollination. Planting the way I did in the video proved that wrong. The rows were planted east to west and the prevailing winds in the summer are from the south so that may have helped the pollination. If a strong wind comes along and blows some of it down it’s usually back up in about a week……Donald

what do you use to keep the corn worms down?
@webcajun9 жыл бұрын
***** Because I don’t sell my sweet corn I don’t use anything. As you know the worm will be located at the very end of the ear, after harvest I simply break that off. The best control is to plant your sweet corn as early as you can. Late corn (like the one in this video) will have more worms…..Donald
