Fern, I'm a horticulture student and can confidently say, stem propagation is the most successful way to propagate raven zz! Leaf cuttings actually risk colour reversion and take 3-6 months longer to root (in my experiment). I understand why people do leaf cuttings (to get the most out of the plant) but you can actually lose up to 50% of your leaf cuttings, and so far I've lost 0 stem cuttings. You're doing everything right! Love you and the video❤💕

Hi Fern! I enjoy your videos so much and get excited when I see a new one. For your dwindling summer light source, have you thought of installing mirrors to bounce the light around in your home? I remember content in Summer Rayne Oakes with “Jamie's Jungle Houseplant Home Tour - Episode 148” that touched on that subject.

Don't forget to keep a quarter inch of water in the bottom of your pitchers on your pitcher plant. In the wild, there is always water in them as they're from the rain forest. This also attracts bugs to the water which feeds the plant. It's a carnivore plant. I learned this from someone who raises them.

for your lighting situation, if you can, i would recommend you paint any walls in from of your window white or put up a partition/divider outside that is painted white and point it at your window. it will increase the amount of light coming in by a LOT.

I have one tall South facing window which is actually part of a huge window-well, like a great big hole with a wall 2m from the window and 3m high. It makes for interesting light issues, lol. In the Summer I have your same problem, the sun is so high it only hits the window sill (which is extremely big though so I can get a lot of plants on it), and from 10am to around 3pm the sun slowly paths along it. However, from November to March it gets no direct light at all, the sun never raises above the edge of the hole. Being in the UK, I never get extreme heat so I can keep practically all my sun loving plants there, succulents and almost all my Hoyas, they love it! It's painted white and I feel that helps a lot. And grow lights are now my friends :P

Ahh I can relate to your window problem! I put a really big plant shelf against one particular wall in summer and now in winter (I live in Australia) the sunlight isn't quite reaching the shelf because the sun is behind the apartments next door. Some plants are still okay there but it's not ideal, so I put another shelf in a room with nice winter sun. On the bright side, it's really great you have nice winter light :) also Hello I'm a recent subscriber ✨❤

love seeing all these updates!!!! so excited for your summer, even if theres less light inside that just means you get to enjoy it outside more. One thing, I don't recommend propagating your pitcher plant. it can take a very long time. They like to climb by twisting the end of their leaves around branches and then making pitchers from that, so you can always try that out to make the plant look fuller in the future

Erin you seem to be the Hoya compacta queen. Your Hindu hope is just beautiful and then you’ve got a variegated version in your milsbo cabinet. Could you give me some advice? When I got mine it was bone dry with little soil. I added soil and watered. It was in my quarantine room for three weeks which was a very dark room. It’s near an east facing window AGT to the side. When I brought it out into the light I noticed that some of the coils in the ends was becoming mushy and some pealed off. I’ve got it behind other plants away from the window (west facing) now I’m afraid to water it. And the pot does have drainage holes. I’ll have to water in my sink. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So much exciting stuff in this video!! 😍🙌🏻 If you think there’s mites on your Bellas, it’s likely false/flat mites and they’re nearly impossible to see and they don’t create webbing. The best thing to do is use a sulphur treatment and Bonide makes one that’s sold as a fungicide but it works against mites pretty much first treatment 👌🏻
@lynn80622 жыл бұрын
I was going to say the same thing. I also ended up with false spider mites and didn’t spot them. I just knew something was wrong with my Hoyas. It took a magnifying glass with an LED light to spot them. They also move VERY slowly. On a positive note….they’re easier to treat than thrips. 🤷🏻♀️

@kileyarnao57902 жыл бұрын
Oof just gonna say if you have mites on your Bella and there's no webbing it's likely false spider mites aka flat mites which for me were the absolute worst pest to get rid of because it took me so long to figure out what was attacking my Hoya(they prefer Hoya though they will go after other plants new growth too) I'd start treating everything because it takes a while to see damage but by then they are already quite established. They are smaller than spider mites too. ☠️ I think a mite spray should work but I've had success with sulphur powder as well.
