I agree re the midnight feast dialect. It reads very British (as an Australian even!). Although I’ve also felt the same about southern accents in books - has a certain charm to the setting!

I feel so vindicated about my feelings on The Z Word! I read the first chapter in a sample and there was no lesbians or zombies, which were the two things the book promised (not to mention the sex scene, ugh) , so I went “okay I’m out” and it sounds like I didn’t miss much haha
