Juneteenth's Legacy

Today is #Juneteenth, a federal holiday that commemorates the emancipation of most enslaved people in the U.S. While this is a moment to celebrate, it is also a time to reflect on the work needed to build a nation with justice and dignity for all.
#DidYouKnow: The U.S. criminal legal system is rooted in a history of white supremacy that spans from slavery to the War on Drugs and modern sentencing practices. Today, the #UnitedStates is an epicenter of mass incarceration, an injustice that disproportionality impacts Black and brown communities.
Vera is committed to ending mass incarceration once and for all, to stop the dehumanization of people of color, and to build safe communities that truly value dignity and respect for everyone.
