I thoroughly enjoyed this film and agree that it's a solid 7. We haven't had an adventure film like this in a long time so im giving it credit for using "The Mummy" formula. Completely agree that the romance part didn't really work.. They could have just been friends and it wouldn't have mattered. The Rock being a conquistador was irrelevant and they could have removed it completely and it would have been fine. I guess they wanted that extra twist just to say they had one.

The conquistadors were stuck in a cave the first half of the movie, and pretty much immediately went after the tears upon release. I really like adventure movies like indiana jones and the Mummy, i can watch those movies over and over. This one was way over the top, nothing felt real or belivable, the characters were'nt really that good, altho i like the actors. Paul giomatti which is a great actor really did not have much to do here, and i feel sorry for him if this is what he has to accept as roles. The villain in this was the typical german badguy, just weirder and dumber, not a good villain. If disney and it's likes could just write good stories and characters, and turn down the cgi overblown action madness, and bring things down more to earth we could have good movies again.

I think its cheesy and cheap sometimes too but then I think about it further. It's not like we constantly criticize movies for throwing in heterosexual relationships or the common love triangle in tons of movies... its just kinda seen as the "default".

Jungle Cruise was a Disney Soulless version of the classic African Queen Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn 1951 film.. now update the Disney trash to 2021.. we get.. MORE TRASH!! This is a film that HAS NO SOUL anymore than a DISNEY RIDE!! Skip this trash and see the classic African Queen.

@AngryJoeShow - Great review guys!! Joe, hat off to your Temple of Doom reference!! I love your guys' reviews. I work for a movie theater as a professional Cosplayer. Indiana Jones is my hero!! I get a lot of guests who see me say "are you promoting Jungle Cruise?" I just roll with it and go into my Harrison Ford voice and quote dialogue from the films. I'm passing on seeing Jungle Cruise (terrified of snakes!!) And yet I can watch the Indy franchise with no issues. I completely sympathize with Dr. Jones. Again, great job guys!! I love your in depth opinions and reviews and you guys are hilarious!! Keep up the great work!!

Thanks for this review, Joe. I just went to theaters last night to see this movie and I loved it. This movie is amazing and funny and sad. The sad part is about The Rock explaining that he's 400 years old and has been living there since. Overall, this movie is amazing. Highly recommended this movie. Jungle Cruise is worth watching in theaters. Thanks Joe

I honestly think Jungle Cruise has the potential to become a great trilogy like the first 3 Pirates of the Caribbean. They can even try to make the next 2 movies a 2 parter if they decide to make them, I just hope they can create a story that's not an exact copy of POTC 2 and 3 and come up with something original.

While there are problems with the movie I actually really liked this movie. I went in with really low expectations, since it's Disney and they insert agenda into everything now, but overall I thought this movie was a lot of fun and could really build on what they have here. The writing is pretty good, it sags a lot in the middle (whenever a movie does that thing where it transitions with a animated map scene with a line drawing up through more than half their trip you know the movie is starting to drag at least a little), there is still some of that "me too" agenda around the edges, but it overall doesn't bog the movie down with that it mainly tries to stay fun. The way they added the mythos to the movie feels sloppy, and almost like it was added last minute, but it's still a lot of fun. The movie does a good thing by giving the characters time to breathe a little bit (even if a little too much and again sloppy but these days you get it so little that this has to be a praise now) so later you actually care about them and like them for the most part. My problem here is I thought The Rock's character should've been written more like he was a villain in the massacre, but when they got cursed he makes a turn- realizing he's wrong- and fights back against the others. That would've been a better story and arc for his character. The way it's told he just has asshole friends so he gets in trouble because of the people he hangs out with. That just doesn't logically make sense given they were conquistadors. There's just no reason his thinking would be different than theirs. There's no logic to that. It was really silly how much the movie focused on and made a running gag about Emily Blunt wearing pants. Even still it fit with the stupid jokes the movie makes and I still liked it. The special effects are significant (there's a lot of CGI especially after around the middle on), and in parts I give that a pass for this movie because I think it's done well and in those parts a lot of it is actually justified. I really enjoyed that the way the sets pieces are designed and lit (in CGI mostly but still) it has the feel of a Disney ride. I really enjoyed that stuff. The casting is very well done. I thought the actors all felt right in their roles, it doesn't feel hamfisted or done for the sake of an agenda. Sure, there's definitely a lot of "Women are smart too" in this, but it's not shoving that in your face so much and a lot of it feels anachronistically natural (maybe natural for now, not the era the movie is in- but it's a Disney movie whatever it's fun). It feels like they set the characters up a little with that, and then just let the characters be who they are, and it felt natural enough for me. It didn't feel like they were forcing any of the characters to be a certain way for virtue signaling. There was a surprising amount of brutal violence and body horror in this. The violence was pretty bold, allbeit bloodless but had other crazy visuals to it, and for much like Tomorrowland I found that surprising. It doesn't bother me- it was just very unexpected. The villain was fun, and I like that actor. He's in a lot of good movies that Joe doesn't like because he doesn't really know much if anything about film and has that pathos that you can tell he's casting himself into a type that works for him. At least to me, and others that actually study film and know how to pronounce words like adaptation. I liked that the movie focused on being silly, like the ride. It could be argued they did that a little much, but I really really like bad stupid jokes so I was ok with it myself, and I was so happy the movie is just a lot of fun. The ride was always super campy and silly, but as a kid I think it was one of my favorite because it relies a lot on just accepting things, even stupid gags, and role playing a little bit as you go on this somewhat low budget ride. It expects you to have an imagination through it and that's something I always enjoyed about it. I found this movie pleasantly surprisingly fun and an enjoyable watch. The worst thing about it is like most movies now days it's just slightly too long (cut maybe 20 minutes out it'd be perfect length wise).

I would say the best way to describe this movie is as Indiana Jones and the Pirates of the Caribbean. As a big fan of big adventure movies I loved it. And as a theme park fan I adored it. As far as ride movies I would say this is a second best ride to film adaption behind only the first pirates. And if they did a movie using the story of the Indiana Jones attraction, this is how I would hope they did it.

Hey, I also thought that Jungle Cruise was around 6/10 Edit: To my eye CGI was clearly CGI, like most of the time they didn't blend Into live acting that well. I would argue that CGI team got lighting or post process volume wrong. Or they used blur effect... But I don't know.

This movie was actually a joy to watch. The set pieces and the writing were quite sharp. Laughed quite alot throughout which rarely happens these days with these poor written films. The acting was decent all around and the rock was not cringy to watch. Emily Blunt as always is amazing. His brother also holds his own weight. The character progressions were done well. The only thing for that didn't hold up for me was the ending. Obviously it's a Disney movie so it had to have a happy ending but had they ended it a few minutes prior to (Spoiler)...would have had a powerful impact. Don't remember the mummy much so I can't say if it's a direct copy cat. As for the movie dragging in some part, I think the whole point was to take in the world created which I didn't mind. Definitely would recommend for a family night out. 7/10

I wish just for once we could switch it up and not have all the woman be super capable and dependable and not have all the men be useless buffoons? Thank god we also got to have a Last Jedi moment and have her free all the helpless captive monkeys. God forbid different cultures treat animals differently. Oh and I'm so glad they clarified that the brother likes to fuck guys... really helped move the story along... The movie had lots of potential. The supernatural stuff was cool and lots of the banter was funny. But for the love of fuck can we stop making movies with a woke checklist?
