Honestly in my opinion making the plot of the movie the same as the game is a mistake. Resident Evil games are over 20 years old. If anything people have played the stories of the Resident Evil games for 2 decades in a row. This is exactly why The CGI animated Resident Evil movies feel so lackluster because they all follow the same script of Resident Evil. Big Secluded Area, Find out Umbrella is worse than we thought, Big Boss Fight in underground facility. This is Resident Evil 7 was so good because it was so different. Imagine if they made Resident Evil 7 a movie? They wouldn't have needed as much budget constraints and it probably would have been good.

They are purely and strictly number crunchers and only want to see the return on investment AKA money. When they give studios money to make these types of films it all boils down to budget and if the story is to expensive aka the mansion and the cgi plus marketing...they compound everything to what is the most important. Many many times things get left out, changed or dulled down heavily to the point where (especially video game movies) it doesn't even resemble the original work (the RE games). Only movies to pull this off are usually book to movies such as Harry Potter and LotR, which are nearly 90-95% faithful to the written works.

I've been saying for years that Resident Evil should be done as a miniseries. Focus on Resi 1. Maybe bring some elements from 0 into it like with how Rebecca got to the mansion. Focus on the atmosphere of a giant old mansion that is abandoned but in perfect condition slowly filling with monsters

Apparently, Johannes Roberts thought idiocy was tantamount to comical. He also thinks said idiocy is required to illustrate how Leon went from rookie to badass. The truth is that Leon was never an inept moron. He was ingenuous and naive, but he was also level-headed, adept, and clever for a young, inexperienced cop. He even won over Ada's respect. The government commissioned him as a special agent. A buffoon wouldn't have been able to even survive the events of Raccoon City, let alone reach government agent status. The director has talked about wanting to do Code: Veronica, RE4 and RE7. While I don’t know if he would somehow try to smoosh CV and RE4 into the same movie, Welcome To Raccoon City has shown me that he probably would, despite there being absolutely no connection between CV and RE4 besides them having returning characters from RE2 (and RE1, with Chris). The director even said he’s obsessed with the fourth game, which makes me wonder why he wrote Leon as such an idiot, and then was okay with him looking like Carlos. I shudder to think what Resident Evil 4 would have been like with this idiot version of Leon Kennedy. Johannes Roberts has a really weird way of showing his love of something by writing the main character of a game he’s obsessed with as an idiot…

The Claire casting was ok looks wise but the actress came off as emotionless, while Claire in the video games is far from emotionless. The Leon casting was atrocious, then they made him a total moron to fit the hollywood rookie cop trope, while in the video game, he is a rookie cop but he's not a moron or a coward. The Redfield casting was good looks wise. The Jill casting was just as bad as Leon's. I couldn't tell if the zombies were zombies or escaped mental patients because they wouldn't stop talking. The guy who played Cheif Irons basically played the same character he played on Gotham lol. The only thing I liked about this movie was the police station. The police station did atleast look like the police station in the video game.

If they wanted to combine two of the games, it should’ve been 2 and 3. They take place only hours apart, there is some character overlap, and they even could have had Carlos, Leon, Jill, and Claire meet at the end. I would love to see what a competent director could do to show Mr.X and Nemesis in the same movie. Mr.X wasn’t in this film sadly, and Jill even makes references to the giant snake and shark from the OG game, that aren’t in this movie. The whole film felt like an hour and thirty minutes of buildup and ten minutes of let down. Everyone was miscast in this movie, Leon, (one of my favorite video game characters of all time) was a bumbling moron, and the twists at the end of this film were easy and predictable. The only way this film could’ve been worse was if the actors pissed on each other, and called it a day.

Because an actual competent adaptation of: RE0/1/2/3/4(maybe Code Veronica?), would be great to see; and yes, I mentioned 4. Don't care; I loved RE4, no matter what anyone says; it was a great game, and Leon is easily the best male RE character, (yeah; I prefer Leon over Barry; Chris, or even Wesker, yep, even Barry; even though Barry Burton is a badass), Leon's still my favorite RE character, with the best hair(according to Yuriofwind's RE4 LP), but this douche in this movie is not Leon, he's closer to if Carlos from RE3; cosplayed as Leon, for either a Halloween themed RE party, or if Leon's R.P.D. costume were unlockable for Carlos, as some kind of ironic look. Because Carlos, as I remember, has literally NOTHING to do with the R.P.D., he's affiliated with the U.B.C.S., or Umbrella Biohazard CounterMeasure Service. But; I'd love to see an unlockable U.B.C.S. costume for Leon, in the upcoming RE4 remake. It might make him look even cooler. It's too bad we'll never get to see what a PROPER Resident Evil/Biohazard movie adaption would or should look like, but the closest we have to that right now; would be the RE2 Remake, which gives us what the movie's lack, at least according to Jeremy Jahns's review of this pile of zombie bs, and I agree. Well, minus the Remake ruining Ben Bertolucci's character, but since he dies a brutal, violent death where he either gets cut in half by G, or implanted with a G-Embryo, and then; pukes and THEN dies, i guess its not super important, but it's just, when you grow up with RE2, on the n64/ps1, and it's the first survival horror game you've ever played or experienced; with your Dad, it just means a lot to you when you keep seeing your favorite RE characters, getting treated like incompetent idiots, whenever they're onscreen in a movie, but I know, usually, live action game movie adaptions aren't any good. And I tend to stay the hell away from them. Especially the RE adaptions. They're the worst, most laughable examples of how not to do a live action anything. And the new Netflix show? Casting some random dude to play Albert Wesker(who's supposed to be dead, after RE5), who looks more like he's auditioning to play Blade's twin brother, or something. And look, nothing against Lance Reddick(although I've never heard of the guy before, sorry; to anyone who's a fan of his), but while he's trying to pull off the Albert Wesker shades and jacket look, he legitimately looks like he's trying to audition for the role of either Blade, or Blade's long lost twin brother; or something, doesn't he? I mean; I'm never watching this awful, pathetic excuse of a show, I just saw Joe's review of the show, and the dude playing Wesker, looks so painfully dumb(the show, not Joe's review), that it comes across as a joke, a bad SNL skit of what a live action RE series might look like, if they cast Albert Wesker as Blade, or a rejected character from the Matrix movies. Sorry; if this went on a bit too long. I just really love the RE games, could you tell? And could you tell that Leon S. Kennedy is my favorite RE character, as well? And yet, in every single live action movie, Leon is the butt of the joke, for no reason. He doesn't know how a Shotgun works, doesn't try to help people, and is a coward here. Why do the people who keep making these adaptions keep making Leon look bad and stupid; and keep making him act the literal opposite of how he is in each of the games he's been in, 2, 4, Gaiden(yeah, I know, that's non-canon, but still, Leon and Barry are both in it), and 6. He's always been the rookie cop with a heart of gold, trying to help everyone he can, and isn't a selfish, pathetic coward, who only cares about himself; he's not Brad Vickers, the helicopter pilot from RE1 and 3, who gets killed by Nemesis in the original, or in the remake, he tries to make up for not helping back in the Mansion, by sacrificing himself, to save Jill at the beginning of the game, during the bar escape part.

This was filmed in my hometown - which had severe restrictions on gatherings and the like; I'd like to believe this is why there was hardly any extra work in this movie thus them ultimately making the decision to make "Raccoon City" a ghost town. Although the movie is a mess I'm glad the Art department is at least getting their recognition - many of who were actual Resident Evil fans - you can thank the prop master and their team for all the authentic Resident Evil touches that did make it in there because it's obvious the director/management didn't really care and were milking the franchise to pay for their next project.

The early RE games had plenty of story to chew on though. If a movie like Predator (a basic survival-horror story that revolved around an elite group of soldiers trying to recover missing comrades, only to be picked off one-by-one by an unearthly threat) could be a successful classic, then RE1's story is rock solid since it shares the same exact premise (a group of STARS elite soldiers are sent to recover Bravo, only to be picked off one-by-one by zombies and other antagonists). Hell, I'd even argue RE1 has an edge over Predator since the first game also features a mansion filled with death-traps. I swear, the first game has all the right ingredients for the perfect survival horror movie (a mixture of 'Predator' meets 'Saw' meets 'Black Hawk Down'). Too bad all the chefs keep fucking up the recipe. ;-;

They don't explain why a police station is built like a labyrinth with puzzles in it. They don't explain Leon's history or Claire's history. The dialogue is boring and bland. It's not deep like Soul Reaver. Resident Evil 2 lacks thematical substance and profound commentary that caters to your existence and gets you thinking about how to get truth back in your life. I can go on and on.

By trying to do both RE1 and RE2 at the same time, they failed to do the most basic, most essential thing they had it mind. To make it more like the video games. You can't mesh those two things together like that, the theming and methodology of those two games are vastly different. RE1 is like Alien, and RE2 is like Aliens. Imagine if Ridley Scott and James cameron tried to make the first two alien movies at once in one movie, you end up with Alien Covenant. Nobody wants that. What an absolute disappointment

From what has been revealed in the interview clips and available reviews, I think this is the analogy I would use to sum how Johannes Roberts adapted RE1+RE2+RE3. Imagine if the makers of the Harry Potter films arbitrarily decided to crush The Philosopher’s Stone and the Chamber of Secrets into Harry’s first year at Hogwarts, then had Sirius Black already be killed, making those films skip over Prisoner of Azkaban right to Goblet of Fire.

As a long time veteran of RE (been a fan since 98, own all the games including Gaiden, own the comic books, S.D Perry Novels, etc.), this movie gets a 7 out of 10 from me. The movie will either make or break if either 1). you cannot accept changes done to the story and characters and 2). if you are a Paul Anderson fan. I can predict that Amir loved the RE CGI movies (which I thought were trash). So there ya have it.

I've been a RE fan since '98, Leon has always been my fave. RE2, RE4, RE2R, even the dreaded RE6, he's always been a badass. They did him so dirty in this... I hate it... Wesker is also a great character: done dirty. Jill and Claire: best female game protagonists in a game franchise, again this film made horrible depictions. Please stop destroying my games with these damn movies!!! Make a fucking tv series based on one game at a time! Build each character. Build the backstory. Slowly destroy the city and let us grow with the reality of the outbreak. Jesus Christ it shouldn't be this hard. The games are a better movie if you just play them. Better yet, just watch a Let's Play here on YT, worth your time more than this trash and the characters will get flushed out.

Man I've been saying this for years bro. It should NOT be this hard to make a good resident evil movie trilogy. Have the first film start off in a mansion, make it suspenseful and scary, the next film, you can do it in a police station like the game (but make changes of course) and finally the third film you can make the whole city crawling with Zombies or whatever. I don't care how actiony you make a resident evil piece of media, as long as you also make it suspenseful and scary, and at least fucking try to make it a good movie which lives up to its source material. But they simply don't want to try. That's my issue.

Angry Joe is the type of person that can't accept changes. He loves the RE CGI movies which were complete SHIT. They follow source material, so he gets on his knees and swallows it for crapcom. That said, you will hate on the film if you can't accept changes or if you love Paul Anderson's films. That's where this movie will either make it or break it. One of the main things a director of a video game film has keep in mind (at least in my opinion) is focusing on one story, as apposed to multiple stories in a film. A good example of that is the original MK films. the first film primarily told the story of the first game, & it wasn't to crowded with some much plot & characters. However, the second film tried to combine multiple plot points of the second & third games, as well as too many characters, & that is one of the MANY reasons that it didn't do as good as the first film. I think too much story elements (especially in a video game film) can stop the writers from putting other important things for a film like great action, good character development, & a good amount of time to create the film's world.

They made Wesker an afterthought, Ada a no show until the credits, Leon a bumbling unskilled idiot who never meets Ada, Claire a super detective, Jill an unhinged person (She is more unhinged and badass in 3 compared to 1 in the remakes at least ), Chris second fiddle, etc. They had Lisa Trevor..in the orphanage instead of the mansion area, enough said after all this.
