small tip: raiders cannot stop while on sandbags so if you add some sandbags to the entry point of the killbox they will be forced to push in and wont find cover.

Omppusolttu has this been changed or does it work with sandbags only? I tried to do it with chunks a little while back. What I noticed was that it did work, but the second an enemy actually took damage from a shot they would stop where they are and begin firing, even if standing on top of the chunks. I assumed this was a change Tynan had made to the AI to prevent this exploit.

Not counting sappers, raiders will walk any distance through a trap, no matter how long it is, if it's the only way to bedrooms, coolers, electricity sources and crops.

@@whitefox8376 ahh thats why. i had like 10 dead bodies from previous raiders on a dumping zone behind the mountain ( because people got upset the whole goddamn time ) and when i got invaded by someone with a molotov / grenades and a few weapons they started to shoot eachother before the attack even began xD i had no idea that was the cause.

But i only want to bury my own. Not the ones who tried to kill us and take over our colony xD they can rot perfectly fine above ground. Shows the next raiders aswell what can happen to them.

Also a tip, for colonist cover always have your colonists hide behind walls. Using a pattern like sandbag - wall - wall - sandbag - wall - wall - sandbag will provide excellent protection. Then a couple of layers of sandbags in front of the walls to soak up incoming fire and slow down melee characters. This will radically reduce the injuries from incoming raids. If you can't use the wall pattern and all you have are sandbags, remember to NOT stand colonists right next to each other. That will limit the "accidental" damage from misses.

The problem with typical killbox design is that 1) no solution to deter enemy melee from rushing your shooters, and once they are in range your other shooters are as dangerous as enemy shooters; and 2) placing turrets close to your pawns make it dangerous for your pawns since turrets are lousy shooters and explode upon death. If you instead place turrets like mines - i.e., close to the entrance so that enemy melee rushes toward turrets instead of your pawns, both problems solve themselves.

It’s very simple. Surround your entire base with an outer wall, then leave a small opening into the killbox that raiders can walk through. They’ll automatically use the only open entrance into your base and therefore automatically go into the killbox. This is only the case with normal raids though, not sappers.

@The Anonymous Lemon It can also be a door, it just has to be held open. It's actually best to do that because it means you can just go close it if manhunters come rather than trying to rush build a door before they pour in.

[SUGGESTION] Tame a big and strong Pawns like elphant,rhinos,Megasloth,Bear and breed them. They wil be so handy if you are facing sappers.

I know it's rare but what about taming thrumbos and breeding them? To be fair though playing as the predator race the plasma pistols and shoulder mounted plasma cannons seem to 1 hit kill most pawns if they have shooting above 11 including thrumbos. But from exp they take a lot of hits from other weapons.

I noticed and I'm not sure if it was mod related but my pawns wouldn't even milk my boomalopes so I could make chemfuel and nutroamine. My last playthrough ended in a lightning strike hitting my boomalope outside the roofed barn with growlights growing haygrass inside and not only did it trigger an explosion of all the other's but my 2nd set of battery banks and my predator colonist with a fucking pred bomb that also hit the rest of my pred colonists trying to put out the fire's 😔😂

Actually very likely the best animal in the game are boars. They are common, they breed fast, move fast, eat grass, eat corpses, can be trained to attack, and they are cheap for how hard they hit which means they contribute less to your raid score. Once the breeding chain reaction starts you can have multiple people do nothing but handling and honestly, this can defeat damn near everything, and you can eat the ones that die. I've seen boars kill a centipede in like a second. They are also smallish, so unlike something like an elephant, many incoming shots miss. I only play on merciless and I can honestly say boars are damn near broken. Doesn't work in biomes without grass or that have long winters since feeding 100+ boars by farming is a bit much. The only reason I don't do it more often is that it's super annoying micromanaging grazing zones. Their strength is in numbers, so you want them grazing together, which means you will have to regularly move the grazing zone. I don't know if anything has changed in the expansion on this, but I can say that Horses are now the king of hauling, not elephants.

Thanks! Informative video for me. I usually make the mistake of having my colonies be sprawling with no actual defensive positions. I tend to get leveled by raids midgame lol. I'll use some of these tricks!

Mods that add fortifications such as embrasures and trenches really help to avoid exploiting the game. The only bad thing is survived raiders don't find out your fortification config and next raids by the same fraction still will be d-daying your bunkers.

3:22 right hand side, I'm pretty sure it's been several years since you could put dead fall traps next to each other horizontally or vertically. You might have been able to be touching diagonally when you made this, but as it's shown would have necessitated cheating mods. Heck, I think it's been at least 2 years since you could do it diagonally.

tbh having 3 melee colonist isnt that bad, they can tank bullets , they can Stall enemies , Draw attention, ect. Even tho they're not quite affective in killing, that's the job for the gunner/ranger i put 3 melee colonist on a door and they all hitting 1 enemy at the same time, you can put gunner/ranger behind them for more damage output but its kinda bad against mechanoid My killbox dont have a turret but it has ton of traps i put mostly turrets around all vulnerable spot on the base so Sappers and raiders wont go there

I used a marsh for a killbox once. Put a bridge for the raiders. They will still funnel inside the wide room if the bridge is thin. Midway through the bridge, I put an IED. Upon explosion, the bridge collapses and they are slowed down by the marsh, while picked by the turrets. Rarely I had mechs, manhunters, or raiders breakthrough.

I got a good killbox but it involves vanilla expanded power as well as doors expanded. Build a long corridor like box with the firing line on one end and the entrance on the other. Along the walls install gas vents. If the enemy makes it too close to the line and your close to being over run fall back outside the box and lock them in the corridor via remotely controlled gates. Then fill the corridor with gas and watch as your enemy's die a slow and painful death.

I try not to make kill boxes until I cant hold off any longer. I use run and gun so I get more enjoyment out of a trench warfare steady retreat kind of defence. Try it sometime I think its the most engaging and enjoyable way to handle raids.

I always make my colonies buildings densely packed because if my wall defenses fail then I can always fall back into the urban environment and steadily retreat until all is lost, its hella fun

Thank you. I'm learning a lot here. However, Having the RimWorld screen in the back fuzzy like that with nothing in front of it during transitions is hard on the eyes. It makes the viewer try to focus but can't. Try not to leave the fuzzy screen on with nothing for the viewer to focus on. Otherwise a great video.

I had 15 shooters and 6 melee colonists in late game, I dont think melee is ineffective it really helped when Randy dropped raiders on top of me, I gave them plasteel longswords and shield belts

I usuallt try to mimic real world "star fortresses". Like having a few "L-shaped" bits with a lot of turrets to funnel through. this way there's almost no weak spot in your defenses. I also add a second part behind it for the lucky ones that do manage to get through. Also embrasures are your friend as well if you use that mod. Putting walls between each turret prevents them from causing chain explosions. I do often not do it on some specific points because the explosives can also kill the intruders themselves.

Sappers will avoid turret range. So you have to put every pit of your wall inside a turret range. Then they should just go to your killbox.

Use Dead Turrets to heard the enemy in the correct direction of your opening. Other wise Sappers, and waiting armies will not get there at the same time. They will break out other parts of your wall. With the New AI if you forget to place a roof on any spot of your large buildings, the Ai will Drop most the enemy inside your building lol." use this against them" .This has happen to me on a few occasions.. I leave open doors to high value items, and a few Steel traps in the mini kill box. This allows bodies to fill up at the start and near the end. This causes mental breakdowns of the enemy and it's the most funniest thing to watch lol. "they kill each other". {make sure you roll players that are immune to seeing death}

why not create a backup battery cluster and charge it to full. at a flip of a switch, you have extra power for your turrets to use.

You can even uninstall charged batteries and install them anywhere, portable energy for a time, they eventually run out of course but if the fight doesn't last too long you can do it there

Well if youre colony is high end game multimilion base killbox is a must have. Im plaing with higher raider budget so they come well equiped and belive me you cant def aginst 50+ full power armor/combat drugs raids without killbox
