Woo hoo! Free tree! I'm sure it will develop well!

I hope so too!

Great to see your little tree is surviving. I'll have to pay attention to my junipers to see if they're feeling generous as well. These ground layers can get some interesting shapes as they grow and chase the light. Fingers crossed that the roots fill the pot quickly.

I fully expect so!

Funny, I have an almost identical juniper cutting which I was thinking about having a look at to get into decent soil. Now I have seen this i think I might have a go at it. I love your initial warning about repots :)

:) And? Did you do it?

@GrowingBonsai Dear oh dear. You clearly skimmed my juniper and Hinoki episode 😉

Not sure my junipers would do well in such loose, seemingly lightweight soil. I was taught to use composted bark chips and decomposed granite, along with part native loam. The native junipers where I live grow in dense soil, some 75-100 years old. BTW, I like this kind of little project.

It is a matter of trying if you want to really know. My junipers all love the stuff.

Hi Jelle. I enjoy the videos - the best available dealing with a variety of techniques (and not just styling!) in my opinion. One of the things that strikes me from your videos is the growing mix that you use, how loose it is and how little orgnic content there seems to be. Also it doesn't appear to change by tree type or size. So I wonder - any chance you can tell us more about it in one of your videos?
@GrowingBonsai13 күн бұрын
Hi Jeff, there is a full video on my view on substrates! And indeed.. I just have buckets of the same mixture, in different size grades. I might toss in a hanfull of added organics for my thristy trees but.. pretty much the same for all, kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2LdoJlmqrmsjZI

How is the voice over by youtube? Does it make sense?

Great info and tutorial Jelle, though I’m almost at the point of giving up on junipers since they develop so slowly for me in my garden.

nah, add more fertilizer, water and sun and you'll be right as rain.

Do you ever wire the roots like you do with the branches so they spread for stability ?
@GrowingBonsai13 күн бұрын
I always spread the roots and when they are strong enough I wire the roots down yes.

Nice video, but it seems like all the voice-over parts are right side only, atleast for us headphone users.

Yeah, weird 😂

I do not do voiceovers to be honest; All spoken as I tape. It seems my external microphone is having trouble. As I edit, I normally only use the headphone on one ear (So to be available to other people in the room) and I mised this completely. Annoying. My apologies. I have noticed last night other recent material has the same problem so will need to look for a new microphone.
@edmundpluss518522 күн бұрын
@@GrowingBonsai Ah yes not voice-over haha, my English is a bit wonky but as far as I know, I think you could set the recordings that have the problem to mono and it would be solved.
@GrowingBonsai22 күн бұрын
@@edmundpluss5185 I figured it out. My camera microphone jack is broken and I will need to fix it, or replace my camera. Indeed, for recorded material I can duplicate the functioning channel and make left & right the some.

Yeah, ever since I broke it, it turns red at the slightest hint of cold. A little annoying tbh!

The video could be improved. Please continue learning, and avoid throwing trees in the future. Additionally, the substrate could be of better quality.
