I used to be a jukebox mechanic in the '70's so I collected some real jewels back then. This was one of my favorites and it's still on the one jukebox I kept, sitting in my living room right now.Thanx for posting.

Awesome song! I remember this song getting a lot of air play when it first came out and I purchased the 45, and I am still junkfood junkie!

We used to die laughing over that last line. Still hilarious. Even more true today.

I attended Ashford Rumble Grade school in Ashford, WV and I remember this guy coming to our school and singing this song and helping the class to write a song. Thanks for posting.

Now that was pretty cool...I haven't heard this song for probably 30 years or so. I'm an old crusty air-dog now, but thanks for reminding me that I was once young and silly, too :)

Classic song that brings good memories of my youth. They just don't have songs like these now a days.

I remember when this song was popular. When it came on during the trip home from school my mom wouldn't turn the radio off until it was over. We spent a lot of time in our parking lot listening to this one.

I remember this song when Jim Stafford sang it on The Captain and Tennille Show back in the mid 70's, loved it!

The first time I heard this, on an actual radio, I had no idea who was performing, but I totally cracked up laughing. I suppose it was pretty good 70's humor. I sure thought so! Glad to see the song can still be found.

First heard this song (along with much great music!) on the Doctor Demento Show! Anyone else?
Often heard on Dr. Demento. I also had an 8 track of "Funky Favorites"'that I wore out as a kid. Memorized every line of almost every track. Still look them up from time to time. This being one of them.

I recall hearing this song somewhere in the early 80's when I was a kid, maybe on the Real People show or something like that, ring a bell for anyone out there?

I was on the Feingold diet as a child and craved all manner of junk-food “delicacies,” (forbidden fruit and all that jazz) so I found this song to be very relatable.

If they every make a biopic, I think Rainn Wilson would be a perfect fit 😂

I've done this one in costumed karaoke several times. Just love it. Pioneered organics in 1970 with Viet Vet Purple Heart Hall of Honor, but still like some cake, cookies, or pie once in a while. (homemade of course!) How about some strawberry rhubarb lattice homemade pie?

Yes "they" do. Weird Al is still at it as are others. Society hasn't stopped growing, but some people have, assuming everything was "better" in the "old days." But the more things change, the more they stay the same. Hell, even when Mozart was at his peak, many old folks thought, "They don't write 'em like they used to."

@jreno665 No joke. It was a big hit record in the '70s. Back in those days, novelty tunes often made the charts. I kind of miss that sometimes.

On this day in 1976 {March 20th} Larry Groce performed "Junk* Food Junkie" on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time "Junk Food Junkie" was at #9 {for 1 week} on the Billboard Top 100 chart, that was also it's peak position on the chart and it spent fifteen weeks on the Top 100... "Junk Food Junkie" was Larry's only Top 100 record... Also in 1976 he released "Winnie-the-Pooh for President" on the Disneyland Record label and he received a Grammy nomination for 'Best Recording for Children'... Larry Groce will celebrate his 71st birthday next month on April 22nd, 2019... * And from the 'For What It's Worth' department; fourteen years earlier in 1962 there was another 'Junk' record on the Top 100, the Blue-Belles' "Sold My Heart To The Junkman" peaked at #15 {for 1 week} on May 27th, 1962...

@aircap Yep. "Dead Skunk" "Uneasy Rider" "Wildwood Weed" " The Streak" Lots of novelty tunes thet were big hits and great memories Being pre-video era helped also - a video locks an idea into your mind - you can imagine something every time you hear a song if you don't have a video clouding your imagination Yes it's nice to know what the artist or director assigned by the rec. co. meant to instill but as we all know sometimes a video just ruins a tune

Since there was trouble in England with issuing U.S. recordings with brand names in them ("A Rose and a Baby Ruth" and "Beep Beep" being two examples), I wonder how they were able to get this song released?

@kja427 i'll tell u why "they" don't make novelty hits like Junk Food Junkie or Mr. Jaws or Dead Puppies is because creativity is dead in Hollywood. Think about it, all the old movies and tv shows are being re-made. too bad because it (creativity) can be a lot of fun!
