Junk Gameboy Advance Restoration - it's almost black!

Restoring a junk Gameboy Advance that i bought from Gumtree for $3.50 (AU$5). This cheap Gameboy flew under the radar as it was advertised alongside a bunch of games, and it was at the bottom of the list. It's severely discoloured, and has some mysterious dots on the screen.

Amazing. The change in colour is just one highlight. As your title says it starts out looking almost black - so hard to believe it was originally the bright blue you restored it to.

Hey, just a little tip you should try, I see you left that in there for around a week 🤯, just use some hydrogen peroxide cream (from any of those hair dye kits) smear it over the oarts, covered with plastic wrapping and a few hours in the sun will have em like new 😊 I've done it with my gba as well as some snes controllers

with the polarizer if it's inverting the colors you can try turning it 90 degrees, worked on one of my builds :)

Yes I've had that experience before, but not with this one, rotated 360° both sides. Wasn't until I removed the protective film on both sides that it worked normally.

Nice job! It's a shame you weren't able to restore the original plastic colour, but it did seem like you had some success. I wonder if you had 11% whether it would have worked and in a shorter time? I have a GameCube controller of the same colour with the same problem!

My smartphone display has tons of scratches. What do you recommend doing in case there's a way to fix it like you did here with the polishing stuff? What do i have to buy?

The gameboy screen lens is plastic. You can not polish scratches out of glass like this.

Do you have a screen protector on it? My Samsung Note 10 came with a screen protector, I didn't actually realise because it was so thin. Thought it was a normal screen. Started getting scratches from using my S Pen. Then realised scratches were only on the protector. Removed protector - all good. Not sure if iPhones come with a protector though, but just thought I'd mention this just in case.

Sorry I didn't see your comment... I would use WD-40 to loosen corroded screws and get them out. Vinegar might work too.
